By Todd Starnes

Attention high school football fans in Maine: B.Y.O.C. – Bring your own Coke.

The Portland Public School system will no longer allow soft drinks to be sold on school property – including at high school football games. School officials are also banning the sale of gridiron staples like buttered popcorn and potato chips.

Instead, football fans will be encouraged to nosh on baked tortilla chips, reduced fat string cheese and hummus.

The total ban on the sale of soft drinks is part of a new policy governing the sales of healthy foods and beverages, said Chanda Turner, Portland’s school health coordinator.

“We’re taking it to another level,” Turner told Fox News. “We’re not going to sell soda and it doesn’t matter who it’s to.”

Read the entire policy by clicking here.

“Chanda. May I call you, Chanda?”

I call her Shanda because it’s a shanda (shame) that this yenta (do I have to translate that from Yiddish?) is in charge

Hey, that looks like a prop from a show that we may have watched at one of these sleepovers. A life preserver from the S.S. Minnow.

Do I detect a scorched earth strategy in all of this?

Most likely we’ll never hear how this goofy idea will be dropped without comment as an epic fail.

I have no problem with the right of a school to decide what it does and does not want to sell.

“Using food as a reward for behavior and achievement can encourage unhealthy habits later in life,” the school system said in a statement on its website.

Instead, teachers will be encouraged to reward boys and girls with an eraser, a sticker or “taking a walk with a special staff person.”

Ah yes. The Sandusky reward. Taking a walk with that "special" staff person.

Talked to a neighbor last night about this. She and other parents run the concession stand for our band’s booster club at football games. She said this is one of the dumbest ideas she’s ever heard and no way to make money. The football team makes their money off the gate. Games are sell outs all season so the band mostly has the concession stand to make any money.

Usually the band moms or some auxiliary that donate the proceeds to school activities run the concession stand, I guess the ban dude is going to make up the difference out of his own pocket now.

“How you change or establish kids behavior..”

My how quickly we went from a goal of educating the populace to controlling the populace. No wonder public (government) control of education was a major plank in Marx’s philosophy.....

“Dreams of My Father”

The actual book title is “Dreams FROM My Father.” Meaning that Obama is discussing his dreams, that he adopted from his anti-colonialist marxist father. Not that he is discussing his father’s dreams that are independent of Obama’s dreams.

Sorry to nitpic, but I try to never let that one pass....

Agreed. Pretty good stuff, but it wouldn’t be very satisfying at a ball game. Why in the world would they choose a middle eastern dish? So it would be halal?
