Funny, Drudge currently has a story up that he just announced he’s dropping out? Which story is more recent?
What he meant was that fewer than one-tenth of one percent of abortions are the result of rape, but that’s not what he said.
This is exactly why Claire McCaskill ran “anti-Akin” ads in the Republican primary dog-whistling Democrats to cross over and vote for him.
Unfortunately for Claire he blew up sooner and more thoroughly than she had planned.
Akin will be gone and Brunner will be in his place by next weekend.

Akin wasn’t supposed to win. Akin wasn’t supposed to win by a large margin. John Brunner wasn’t supposed to be in the race and screw it up for Sarah Steelman who actually came in third.
Me, I’m just going to eat my popcorn and see what happens. I do know that the reaction in Missouri isn’t the same one felt in the beltway.
Sarah Steelman polled well above McCaskill in the primaries. Sarah palin endorsed Steelman. She lets us change the narrative back to the economy. Somebody make this guy go away.

It isn’t very effective to apologize for being stupid. His comments give legitimacy to the war on women theme the democrats are running with. It will cost republicans close races all across the country. There will be more abortions because there will be more democrats elected. He needs to get out now. If he quits today or tomorrow the story dies. If he stays in, the republicans will get tarred with his stupidity every day until the election.

If he steps down, I imagine she’d be pissed, that’s 2 million dollars the she blew for a minimal return on investment, if he stays in, that’s the best 2 million any campaign has ever spent.

There is no evidence that Akin won because of Dem crossover votes. I know I voted for Akin because he has been a fairly reliable conservative congressman, and I was not thrilled about either Brunner’s or Steelman’s campaign. But if Akin withdraws—for Brunner, Steelman, Bond, Talent, or whomever—I will gladly support the new nominee over ObamaClaire McCaskill.

Seems to me that there are quite a few conservatives, including Freepers, with no heart at all. Resisting the tyranny of political correctness is hard, and they are just looking for an excuse to enter the warm embrace of submission. When I originally read the complaint against Akin, I kept reading to find the "horror" or it all, and then realized it wasn't much of anything. The left took it and ran with it (they don't need much), and the right helped them carry the ball. Pathetic! Todd Akin is one of about 50 million American adults who I would feel comfortable with holding that senate seat. The key thing being that they actually have to win that senate seat. If we need another conservative to step in because Mr. Akin can’t keep his foot out of his mouth, so be it. Just because the Democrats can send a Biden to DC for decades doesn’t mean that we should try to emulate them. The media treats us unfairly, sure, but that means we have to avoid saying stupid things. If you can’t manage that, you can’t represent us.
