Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “is determined to attack Iran before the US elections,” Israel’s Channel 10 News claimed on Monday night, and Israel is now “closer than ever” to a strike designed to thwart Iran’s nuclear drive.
The TV station’s military reporter Alon Ben-David, who earlier this year was given extensive access to the Israel Air Force as it trained for a possible attack, reported that, since upgraded sanctions against Iran have failed to force a suspension of the Iranian nuclear program in the past two months, “from the prime minister’s point of view, the time for action is getting ever closer.”
Asked by the news anchor in the Hebrew-language TV report how close Israel now was to “a decision and perhaps an attack,” Ben-David said: “It appears that we are closer than ever.”
He said it seemed that Netanyahu was not waiting for a much-discussed possible meeting with US President Barack Obama, after the UN General Assembly gathering in New York late next month — indeed, “it’s not clear that there’ll be a meeting.” In any case, said Ben-David, “I doubt Obama could say anything that would convince Netanyahu to delay a possible attack.”
The report added that Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak believe Obama would have no choice but to give backing for an Israeli attack before the US presidential elections in November.

No way Israel will attack Iran and risk it’s very survival. They are too smart to do that.
They are, however, more than willing to rattle the sabre, along with the Mullahs, in order to profit from panicked oil markets.
Obama is toast if he doesn’t get the gas prices down , soon and dramatically. Bibi can keep the price up with attack threats.

Just a dumb question from this “infidel”: When’s the last time a wealthy muzzie with lots of Swiss bank accounts blew himself up? I don’t mean just a jihadi from a well-to-do muzzie family a la Osama, I mean a muzzie gazillionaire like Achmedinejihad, or the head of Hamas, or Bashir Assad. Somebody with a lot to lose.

Yeah, I’ve wondered the same thing recently,

It seems to me that these messages being telegraphed by Netanyahu are intended to counter the recent statements about wiping out Israel by ‘Supreme Leader’ Assahollah Ali Khamenei and his sockpuppet Ahmadinnerjacket. What we’re witnessing is (IMHO) basic psychological warfare.
That doesn’t mean that Netanyahu won’t pull the trigger on Iran between now and the end of the year (and most likely before November 6th), and if I were going to offer odds, I would say it is no less than 6 (or even 7) out of 10 that Israel will do to Iran what it did to Saddam at Osirak many years ago.
What Bibi must determine prior to NIN-Day (’Neuter Iran’s Nukes Day’, not Nine Inch Nails lol) is how many forces to dedicate to the strikes on Iran (and there will be more than one), to limit retaliation the IAF needs to literally destroy all Iranian air and missile resources before they can be launched at Israel. Likewise, he needs to have the best intel possible so far as the possibility of Syria launching an attack on Israel as well, if I were advising Bibi, I would suggest a subtle and secret diplomatic cable to Assad to inform him that if he pokes Syria’s nose into any Israel/Iran conflict, that Damascus WILL be nuked into oblivion, and Assad will have to decide whether or not to risk whether or not Netanyahu is bluffing.
Naturally Israel will have to prepare for terrorist attacks from Hezbollocks and similar groups, and the wild card in all of this is what Vladimir Putin will decide to do. Russia has a great deal invested in both Iran -and- Syria and Putin is not likely to allow either of those client-nations to be attacked with impunity.
It will get ugly very very fast. Unfortunately for Netanyahu, his options are becoming more limited with each passing day.
I don’t know how local weather conditions in Jan. play into this, but my guess is that if Israel does intend to strike, they will try to drive up oil prices to help Romney, then strike at the 1st opportunity after Obama’s last day in office. If it appears Obama is ahead in the polls, they might strike before the election. Meanwhile, the Iranians have to stay on alert for a protracted time. This is just my amateur guess.
