Meles Zenawi, Ethiopia's long-time ruler who held tight control over this East African country but was a major U.S counterterrorism ally, died of an undisclosed illness after not being seen in public for weeks, Ethiopian authorities announced Tuesday. He was 57.
Meles died Monday just before midnight after contracting an infection, state TV said.
Hailemariam Desalegn, who was appointed deputy prime minister and minister of foreign affairs in 2010, became acting prime minister and will be sworn in as prime minister after an emergency meeting of parliament, said Bereket Simon, the communications minister. Parliament is controlled by Meles' ruling party and governing coalition, ensuring Hailemariam will be approved. No new elections will be scheduled, Bereket said.
The U.S. has long viewed Meles as a strong security partner and has given hundreds of millions of dollars in aid over the years. U.S. military drones that patrol East Africaespecially over Somaliaare stationed in Ethiopia. The U.S. goal for Somaliaa stable government free of radical Islamistsis in line with Ethiopia's hopes.

RIP.
Ethiopia is 66% Christian and the Muslims have always been politically pretty powerless, and living on the periphery of the country.
I do strongly suspect the latter. The way that Muslim-Christian relations have rapidly broken down in Ethiopia speaks to engineering.
A major issue is that under the Ethiopian constitution, there is no chain of secession.

This sounds very suspicious, because the Patriarch of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church also died recently.
I suspect assassination by stealth to further the creation of Muslim states necessary to create the World Caliphate, with the elimination of Jews and Christians.
I concur.
I just hope people won’t be “shocked” when Ethiopia suddenly goes the way of Egypt, though . . . it’s tiresome to witness.
Socialist dictator it sounds like.
But the enemy of communists and islamists. SO RIP.
If was he 57, he was pretty young when he first took power.
Ethiopian Christians seem more than willing to fight the terrorists who want to take over the country.
FAUSTO SAY:
“Ethiopian Christians seem more than willing to fight the terrorists who want to take over the country.”
Thanks Impy.
