CU-Boulder faculty chairman says he'll cancel his classes if students carry guns

The state Supreme Court has made it clear that the University of Colorado can't stop students with concealed-carry permits from bringing their guns to campus. But the chairman of the Boulder Faculty Assembly says if he ever discovers that any of his students are armed, class is over.

CU physics professor Jerry Peterson -- speaking for himself Monday, not the faculty group he leads -- said he wants his students to feel safe to engage in classroom discussions that could be controversial.

Some guy comes in blasting away with an AK47 - student with a CWP jumps up and shoots the guy, wounding him. Causes said gunman to drop his weapon whereupon students subdue him. Student hero expelled from prof’s class. That the way liberals work.

I wonder, seriously, what "physics" this guy is teaching if he has students discuss "controversial subjects," in his classroom.

The Ontology of Quantum Mechanics

Inspired by True Events.
In one Universe, anyway.

Clem: "The Copenhagen School? Seriously? You better smile when you say that around here."

Billy Bob: "Oh yeah? Many Worlds? Gimme a break. Even Feynman didn't take the Path Integral all that seriously -- and he invented it!"

Clem: "Out in the Quad at Noon, lightweight."

Billy Bob: "Why wait? This is Colorado, Nancyboy. Go fer yer guns."

Clem: "Take that!" <Bang! Bang!> "And the same goes for any non-local hidden variable theorists in the crowd. Just ask yourselves one question: Has Bell's Theorem really been verified experimentally, or is Quantum Entanglement just an artifact?" Looking around, "Well Punks, do you feel lucky? Do Ya!?"

[He's probably teaching Phy Sci, or some other puke survey class accessible to Al Gore. Besides, real Physicists duel with particle beam weapons.]

If somebody is so involved in high-end Physics that they would get upset at some of the subtleties of esoteric subjects, I’d be more concerned that they have accidentally pointed the gun into themselves than having it pointed out towards anybody.

Boulderites are such wusses. They’re either stoned, stupid or both in that town. There are signs everywhere telling you to yield, turn, don’t turn, watch for bikes, pedestrians, dogs, errant ciggie butts, low hanging branches and awnings.

Whenever I go there, it’s like losing half your IQ.

What would be so controversial in physics that somebody would lose their cool?

The hell you say.

This is discussed in both posts #20 and #23.

Thank God Wolfgang Pauli didn't pack heat.

Someone should walk in packing every single day and sit in the front row with a big smile and then look completely crestfallen and confused when the class is cancelled.

Rinse, lather, repeat every day throughout the entire semester.

Have someone else do this for all the teachers other classes as well.

Let chaos ensue.

I live about 30 miles from Boulder. Haven’t been there in about 20 years. Can’t afford the IQ loss or risk the fine for being a white male who prefers women.

"What would be so controversial in physics that somebody would lose their cool?"

Well, since you asked...:-)

Tycho Brahe

From Wiki:

"While studying at University of Rostock in Germany, on 29 December 1566 Tycho lost part of his nose in a sword duel against fellow Danish nobleman (and his third cousin), Manderup Parsberg.[12][13] Tycho had earlier quarrelled with Parsbjerg over the legitimacy of a mathematic formula, at a wedding dance at professor Lucas Bachmeister's house on the 10th, and again on the 27th. Since neither had the resources to prove the other wrong, they ended up resolving the issue with a duel.[14] The duel two days later (in the dark) resulted in Tycho losing the bridge of his nose."

So if every student carried to his class - and they did it properly (skillfully, I should say) - then dickhead would never know unless he patted down his class every day.

Then they'd have a sexual harassment charge to pin on him!

Hmmm....wonder what this professor is saying that would make him so fearful of students exercising their Second Amendment rights? He may be one of the dedicated Marxists that thrive in our universities, who think it’s mandatory that they insult Christian and conservative students. Knowing they are armed makes him nervous.

Galileo also had issues with the Pope over physics. Galois was more of a mathematician than a physicist, and his duel was political so it doesn’t count. The near duel between advocates of Marie Curie and Paul Langevin was actually over prestige as physicists but that had degenerated into rumors before the challenge. All in all, physicists seem to be quite willing to put their lives on the line over a question of honor or of astrophysics. Still, a physics professor should stick to the subject matter, at least in the classroom. This professor especially is not good enough at physics to have any business expressing or permitting personal opinions on science in front of students.

The perfesser is projecting his own violent tendencies onto others.

He should be removed from the classroom immediately.

For the children.
