What a difference one TV interview can make. Embattled Democratic incumbent Claire McCaskill has now jumped to a 10-point lead over her Republican challenger, Congressman Todd Akin, in Missouri’s U.S. Senate race. Most Missouri Republicans want Akin to quit the race while most Missouri Democrats want him to stay.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in the Show Me State finds McCaskill earning 48% support to Akin’s 38%. Nine percent (9%) like some other candidate in the race, and five percent (5%) are undecided.

Nice try. The ads haven't even been launched yet starring Akin.

You will see the ads starring Akin when the RNC convention starts. Then it will be all Akin all the time.

Great news!! Thanks again Akin for your “principled” stand!

Exactly. Ann Coulter is right: Todd Akin IS a "Selfish Swine".

A conservative Republican - who would vote to repeal ObamaCare - had this seat won. We had full confidence that we'd be rid of moonbat Claire McCaskill... possibly forever. Then Akin shows up - completely unprepared - for a TV interview, and utters his bizarre statements about "how the female body works".

But the important thing here is that Akin "stuck to his principles" and refused to step down. Yeah, that's it... "principles" are what's important here.

Your support for Obama Claire is starting to become very obvious, you need to tone it down a bit. Anyone who is defending Akin this strongly after what we’ve seen and after these poll results, has highly questionable motives IMO.

“People are seriously so sheeply and stupid “

That’s why Akin’s comment is a stroke of genius.
He has just sewed up the STUPID vote.

Instead of apologizing he should have insisted his remark has some validity. And say it over and over and over again till the idiots believe it. Shouldn’t take too much repetition.

He could quote Planned Parenthood from the 1980’s.
Win over the stupid with more stupidity.

And how about Mona Charen’s article and the role of stress in pregnancy?
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2921945/posts

Hey, I’m just enjoying being contrarian, but the way for Akin to fight back is not to be sheepish, but rather say he learned it all from Planned Parenthood.

We don’t have to surrender stupidhood to just the idiots on the left.

How ironic. This arrogant ass believes he is the only one who can carry the pro-life torch. In reality, he is going to be responsible for the pro-abort remaining in office. Any number of other pro-life candidates can beat McCasKILL. He is the only one who certainly cannot. And he believes he is helping the pro-life cause? He is delusional and anyone who is buying it is delusional. Unfortunately, some FReepers are still buying it.

None of those who lost in the primary is allowed to mount a write-in campaign. They can, however, be named by the Republican Central Committee if Akin withdraws with court order by Sept. 25.

Akin has a real opportunity to not be forever remembered as the Benedict Arnold of the pro-life movement. Make a deal with the Central Committee to withdraw if he can name his replacement. If it is a strong pro-life candidate with a chance to win, both sides should make that deal.

This fool probably cost us the Senate. No win that is thrown away can come to a good in the entire end. Now if we lose the senate and get the WH then we cannot get rid of Obamacare. Thanks idiot Akin for your MOUTH!

Senator Famous for Joking About Rape Campaigns for Obama, Biden

As New York magazine reported in 1995, from a writing session that the reporter sat in on:

Franken: “And, ‘I give the pills to Lesley Stahl. Then, when Lesley’s passed out, I take her to the closet and rape her.’ Or, ‘That’s why you never see Lesley until February.’ Or, ‘When she passes out, I put her in various positions and take pictures of her.’”

With the national conversation now turning to women's issues as a result of the bizarre and offensive comments by Missouri Senate candidate Todd Akin over the weekend, it seems a bit odd that Vice President Biden would take the stage with Franken, considering his own lack of sensitivity to the horrors of rape.

Rasmussen himself would probably like to see Akin out of the race.....

I know Rasmussen has a great deal of respect from both sides. I do not doubt his integrity as I have no proof to the contrary. However, having said that (love that phrase) I did some Wikipedia work. He is quoted as saying he was bought up Republican, but switched to Democrat after the Nixon years. He then said he is now independent.

It stands to reason that any pollster virtually must say he/she is independent. Professional suicide could loom, if it were stated he was of the "leg tingle" variety. Again, I do not claim Rasmussen is telling a falsehood. Just that few persons can distance themselves from what they really are. Maybe he can do this, if the presidents admirer.

The sampling that has devasted Akin, covered 500 respondents. An important point has been raised here. Does this have a shelf life? Ok,here is what I am going to do. Next thursday at precisely 1:00 Est. I will visit this thread and we will see whether the MSM and their cohorts are- in the words of Shakespeare been "Full of sound and fury, signifying NOTHING!

Support for Obama is +2 today in both Rasmussen and Gallup. How much of that is attributable to this is unknown, but Akin is certainly not helping the cause to offload Obama.

These numbers have nothing to do with his principles. It comes from having your own side hammer you relentlessly for about a week and give a gazillion talking points to your enemies.

The GOP-E took not one step back to reconsider the destruction of their own candidate.

If they’d gotten behind the guy and said simply by “legit” he meant “violent as opposed to statutory”, this would have blown over quickly.

Any guess as to why the GOP-E decided to go for his throat?

It doesn’t mean jack-sh*t what democrats say. We can do the “Well, HE said this/that/the other thing” bit ‘til the cows come home... and yes, it’s grossly unfair the dems get away with it... but Akin knew that going in. Every GOPer has to be at the top of his/her game when being interviewed.

Yes, it sucks, but that’s the dynamic.

Instead, he just kept digging.

Thanks.. I should clarify. Obama’s support has increased by 2 pts in both polls. Romney was ahead in both yesterday by 2... both are now tied. Small amount, but the dems smell lots of blood in the water with Akin, and their exploiting it. Missouri went to McCain in 2008 by approximately 6,000 votes. We have no room for error out there, but Akin may be putting the Presidential race in jeopardy, too.

Give it a week for the outrage to die down, and for Akin to make his case and his apology tour. Then we’ll have a better picture of where it stands.

It's been 5 days. He was down "only" 7 in the PPP poll when corrected for the 9 point oversample of Republicans. Now he's down 10 in a new poll.

The writing is on the wall in 10 ft high letters.
