Huckabee digs in behind Akin

Todd Akin hasn't had many high-profile supporters with him in the trenches this week, but Mike Huckabee became an important and emphatic exception Thursday afternoon, sending a message to his own supporters accusing Republican elites of trying to drum a good man out of a winnable Senate race. Here's what Huckabee said in an email to his list this afternoon:

Party’s leaders have for reasons that aren't rational, left [Akin] behind on the political battlefield, wounded and bleeding, a casualty of his self-inflicted, but not intentional wound.

That really doesn't matter now. Akin says he's running. He won the primary. He's running.

You're an Anyone But Obama voter, right? ABO. That means you're supporting Romney.

The same logic applies to Anyone But McCaskill, ABM. You are now ABM, and that means you're supporting Akin.

True conservatives believe rape is a crime. They don't believe "it's not the criminal's fault" B.S. that Akin talked about. True pro-lifers believe that you can't punish the baby for the actions of the father. Not that babies are a punishment to the mother. (which incidentally is how Obama has talked about it). What he Actually said was not conservative. (Plus, how many conservatives take $1.5 or $2 million from Democrats)

Plus, he's not that dumb, he knew what he was saying was going to hurt Republicans anyway. He got what he wanted. His statement on Romney was tantamount to an endorsement of Obama.

Okay, he beat the conservatives in the primary, fair and square, but now he's become a liability.

What’s missed in b.s. excuse to murder a child is the child isn’t just the rapist’s child but the mother’s as well. Her blood flows through the child’s veins as well. I know several people that were conceived because the mother was raped and I thank God their mother’s gave birth to them. There is NEVER a reason to murder a child. Period!

I hope you are right. I have only watched a little TV the last couple days, and have not seen any Akin ads at all. Prior to that, Akin was running his apology ad. McCaskill is still pounding Akin, of course, as well as running an ad attempting to distance herself from Obummer. If Akin can’t effectively hit McCaskill on jobs and the economy, and her voting record, he’s toast. As I’ve said before, most MO voters are just not as conservative as sometimes supposed.
