Democratic Congressman Martin Heinrich receives his highest level of support yet against former Congresswoman Heather Wilson in New Mexico’s U.S. Senate race.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of New Mexico Likely Voters shows Heinrich with 48% of the vote to Wilson’s 41%. Five percent (5%) prefer some other candidate, and seven percent (7%) are undecided.

My first choice was Gary Johnson, the locally liked ex-Governor, but Heather Wilson is a solid candidate. All things considered, she’s doing well in this Democrat-voting state and merely needs to hold the Republican vote in the Little Texas area while winning over independent voters in Albuquerque.

Another reason why Akin has to go: DSCC can divert resources from Missouri to New Mexico - and Heather Wilson has an uphill battle.

She can do it. As Obama goes, so goes Heinrich.

All is not lost here, but interestingly this is one of the few races (along with Tommy Thompson), where the old moderate retread was chosen over the base/tea party types. She doesn’t seem to be in a good position. This theory of the moderate political class that moderates do better is definitely in doubt once again.

How about bringing in Sharon Angle, Joe Miller, Christine O’Donell, JD Hayworth etc.? None of them are “moderate”. All backed by Tea-Party!

But wait just a minute, they did not win either!!
Goes to show it is the CANDIDATE that matters, not the classification. Nominate idiots like Todd Akin and then even the unpopular McCaskill can kick our butts.

We have elected Susana and ABQ mayor Richard Berry and we are stuck with this fossil. She needs to put up a better fight especially in light of Akin.

So your first choice would be the guy whose views are repugnant to most Republicans and that, after he got no support running for president in the GOP primaries, threw a hissy fit, left the Republican Party and joined the Libertarian Party, and is now seeking to get enough votes so that Obama can get reelected? Let’s just say I disagree.

Heather Wilson is a good candidate, and she’ll do better than Gary Johnson would have done.

Gary Johnson is running for president not senator and Wilson is weak. I want her to win but she is running a campaign from the 1970’s.

Speaking of Wilson, Santa Fe residents Joe Wilson and Valerie Plame (the former CIA cublcle resident) welcomed the "Caravan of Peace" to Santa Fe this past Sunday. Apparently liberals have no problem hanging with ex-CIA personnel as long as they helped to bring down a (Republican) U.S. administration.

No news article bothered to record their presence.

I know for which race Johnson is “running” (more like strolling, really); I was replying to a post that said that Johnson would have been the pister’s first choice to run for the Senate.

As for Wilson, she was elected and reelected to Congress from an Albuquerque district that leans a bit more Democrat than dies the state as a whole, so I doubt that she ran campaigns out of the 1970s. If she’s failing to connect in this election, then she should go back to running the type off campaign she ran for Congress.

Earlier this week she supposedly disavowed Paul Ryan and his budget plan:

...Wilson told The Hill on Tuesday that she has “been very clear that I have concerns about the budget Congressman Ryan proposed 18 months ago,” and voted against a version of it while serving in Congress in 2007. "If I oppose something, that's now recorded as 'implicit'?" Wilson said. “Had I been in the Senate and on the budget committee and the Ryan budget came over, I would have worked on getting an alternative,” Wilson added, elaborating that she has worries about what the Ryan plan would do to Medicare.

However, the blog link to the statement to "The Hill" does not show the statement. Yesterday I posted an article Nervous Heather Starts To Throw Ryan Overboard (NM-Wilson's RINO roots appear) with my comment that excoriated her for her RINO roots. Without a link to those comments, I have to back off a bit. However, polls still show her 7 points down to Heinrich.

Yesterday, with Romney in Hobbs she is shown in a picture sitting in conference with Mittens. Also attending (L to R) are NM Lt. Gov. John Sanchez, Utah US Rep. Rob Bishop and NM US Rep. Steve Pearce.

Heather Wilson needs a new hairstyle. She was wearing something similar back in the late 90s!

Well here you have it. A 7 point deficit is not pleasing at this juncture.
