RJC [Republican Jewish Coalition], ECI Demand Removal or 'Radical' Rabbi from Obama List
Jewish Telegraphic Agency ^ | Aug. 23, 2012 | Suzanne Pollak

WASHINGTON (JTA) -- – Two conservative groups called on the Obama campaign to sever ties with a "radical" on its newly-released list of more than 600 rabbis who support the president's reelection.

The campaign rejected the demand.

The Republican Jewish Coalition on Thursday “expressed profound outrage” that Rabbi Lynn Gottlieb, a Renewal rabbi from California that the RJC described as a "radical rabbi", is part of Rabbis for Obama, which was launched Tuesday.

Gottlieb sits on the advisory board of Jewish Voice for Peace, a group that is active in the campaign to use boycott, divestment and sanctions to pressure Israel into ending the occupation of the West Bank, and that has no official position on whether Israel should exist as a Jewish state.

In September 2008, she was part of a coalition of religious groups that spoke about the Holocaust and Palestinian rights with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad at a New York hotel. At that event, she said she favored face-to-face reconciliation, and asked Ahmadinejad, who has denied the Holocaust, to "change the way you speak about the Holocaust."

Gottlieb is one of eight Jewish Voice for Peace members on the list.

“By promoting and showcasing Rabbi Gottlieb as one of Pres. Obama’s supporters, the Obama campaign lends legitimacy and credibility to a rabbi whose extreme views are well beyond the mainstream of the Jewish community and the mainstream of America,” the RJC wrote in a statement to JTA.

Note that that the afforementioned "Rabbi" Gottlieb met at least twice in person with Ahnadinijad (once in New York and once in Iran), constantly spews anti-Israel and pro-Palestinian propaganda, and is on the board of J Street.

The "Obama List" in the headline refers to the newly released "Rabbis for Obama," one of the mechanisms being used by the Obama campaign in trying to attract Jewish voters. There was a thread about "Rabbis for Obama" on FR two days ago.

BTW, has anyone ever heard of the "Renewal" movement in Judaism to which this rabbiness belongs?

Quick look at wikipedia: The Jewish Renewal movement incorporates social views such as feminism, environmentalism and pacifism. ... In augmenting Jewish ritual, some Renewal Jews borrow freely and openly from Buddhism, Sufism and other faiths.

About what you would expect...

I presume you are referring to "Rabbis for Obama." Or the same would apply to the National Jewish Democratic Council and its honcho, Ira Foreman, who doubles as the Obama campaign's Jewish Get Out the Vote co-ordinator (or whatever the heck his title is.)

This is the first I've heard of it, too. Sounds like a splinter movement of a splinter movement.

Wonder if "Rabbi" Gottlieb was chastised by her Renewal movement for hobnobbing with Ahmadinejad. Doubt it. Just like the Obama WH refuses to remove her from the "Rabbis from Obama."

Well, at least her continued presence there - as well as others with far left backgrounds - will make "Rabbis for Obama" a very convenient, and justifiable, target of criticism for our side.

I hope the Iranians don’t find out that she and the Naturei Karta they have been meeting with are all on the Mossad payroll...

Wouldn't be surprised if there are one or two from Narurei Karta on the "Rabbis for Obama" list.

This recalls an old, old episode of South Park.

Call them “Kapos for Obama”

Kapos were concentration camp inmates who collaborated with the Nazis. These people are actually far worse than kapos because the kapos usually had guns to their heads, and sometimes literally.

Since I'm not a "South Park" fan, perhaps you could give a brief summary of the episode to which you refer.

Joining the RJC in calling on Obama to distance itself from the eight JVP members was the Emergency Committee for Israel, a group that has backed Republican candidates for Congress.

"It was particularly shocking to see that your campaign had recruited, and was touting the support of, rabbis who have no commitment to Israel’s security, and whose values are representative of a small and extreme group of anti-Israel activists – and certainly not of the pro-Israel community," William Kristol, ECI's founder, wrote in a letter to Obama.

Didn't know what "ECI" in the title of the posted article was, but the above segment explains it. The Emergency Committee for Israel's ads contributed to the election of Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA) over his Democrat opponent in 2010.

Boy groups, sub-groups, we are going to need a program to list who are on the side of Israel/USA and who love Marx over life itself.

Kyle goes to Jew Scouts summer camp, stows along Kenny. The Jew Scouts are run by a diverse coalition of denominations from Chassidic, Orthodox, Conservative, Reform and Reconstructionist, and they have a new member to the coalition, the anti-Semitic branch of Judaism, that wants to replace Moses with Haman, and very nearly succeeds, but for the boys’ timely action. Kenny, of course, dies again.
