Mitt Romney revealed a new energy policy today that will hinge on states, and not the federal government, being able to control energy development on federal land, a shift that the campaign says will result in North American energy independence by the year 2020.
It includes more offshore drilling options, evoking memories of the slogan introduced four years ago at the Republican National Convention in 2008: Drill, baby, drill.
If Im the president of the United States in a few months here, I will set a national goal of America and North America, North American energy independence by 2020, Romney said. That means we produce all the energy we use in North America. And there are a number of things Im going to do to make that happen. It is achievable. This is not some pie-in-the-sky kind of thing.

Drill and frack and dig and blast and cook! Whatever it takes.
Why export jobs and cash to other countries most of whom hate us?
Become energy independent and stay out of wars in the Middle East unless we are directly threatened. Aside from oil those countries are essentially irrelevant. Democrats certainly don’t vote to protect Israel.
Good. I’ve also emailed them numerous times about the federal lands and how We The People own those royalties and earnings could be used to pay off the deficit. I’m third generation oil business and glad to hear they are pursuing this strategy with gas prices going so high again. And I hope once elected he uses the talent and leadership of Sarah Palin to spearhead the whole initiative. She’s shown she can go up against the big boy oil executives. Win.
His presidency would be a success if he can enact a real energy policy and Sarah is the one person who can make that happen. Time will tell if Mittens is really capable of thinking beyond himself.
This is an argument the GOP absolutely wants to have. The Energy debate demonstrate both the incompetence and the corruption of the Democrats during the last 4 years. This is a sure loser for the Dems
Well, I mentioned that in my emails too that he should appoint her after the election. Not sure IF he should make a big point of it right now before the election about utilizing her talents since she is lightening rod so to speak with the left but then we’ll see. From what I’ve read of her accomplishments in this regard in Alaska, he’d be crazy not to allow her to serve her county in this capacity. And after picking Ryan, I’m thinking he might just appoint her to some capacity in this regard. Energy Secretary Sarah Palin has a nice ring to it.
I pray that they aggressively pursue this. I remember back when, before I had kids and worked, just the leases in the Gulf were worth millions before a drill bit ever even touched the ground. The Federal Lands and the leases bidding war that would erupt with major energy players, we could start knocking out that debt on Jan 21st with the opening of bids for leases and stop sending money to the Middle East so fast it’d make them wish they’d never held us hostage. I really think, after what 40 years, we just might do it this time and make it a reality.
Absolutely brilliant plan. I never met a state politician who didn’t want to get more money to spend.
This is a winning platform if Romney will actually do it.
