A doctor in a white lab coat stands at the pearly gates. The voice of God booms, And your good deeds? The man responds, Well, as a dermatologist, Ive been warning people that sunlight will kill them and that it is as deadly as smoking.
His smug smile fades as God snaps, Youre saying that sunlight, which I created to keep you alive, give you vitamin D and make you feel good, is deadly? And the millions of dollars you received from chemical sunscreen companies had nothing do with your blasphemy?
A bottle of SPF 1000 sunscreen materializes in the dermatologists hand. Youll need that where youre going, God says.
The scene is part of a training video for tanning salon employees made by the International Smart Tan Network, an industry group. FairWarning purchased the video from Smart Tan's website for $75.
The tone is tongue-in-cheek but its part of a defiant campaign to defend the $4.9 billion industry against mounting evidence of its questionable business practices and the harm caused by tanning. And, in an extraordinary touch, it is portraying doctors and other health authorities as the true villains trying to counter a broad consensus among medical authorities that sunbed use increases the risk of skin cancer including melanoma, the most lethal form.
To sway public opinion, the industry is drawing on its vast network of outlets; there are more tanning salons in the U.S. than there are McDonalds restaurants. Some salon operators are putting trainees through a D-Angel Empowerment Training program that uses the video. It is intended to give employees talking points to use outside the salon to argue that tanning is a good source of vitamin D, and thus a bulwark against all manner of illness, including breast cancer, heart disease and autism.

Nanny State PING!
Yet you never hear the term "Big Labor" used by liberals. The union movement has been an impediment to America's economic engine for far too long, sheltered by Franklin Diablo Roosevelt's protectionist agencies. Big Labor is nothing but an anti-free enterprise extortion racket. It's Big Labor that had crippled our economy not tobacco, oil, the pharmaceutical industry or even the tanning industry.
Tanning Industry? I thought they were talking about making leather goods. Then again maybe they are considering the wrinkled brown hides I see.
Did anyone consider that the Obamacare tax on tanning salon services is anti-White?
Actually that’s what I thought as well :)
Cracked up when I read this!
>> A doctor in a white lab coat stands at the pearly gates.
Not to be confused with the Marxist jackasses in white lab coats proudly erect in the Rose Garden grinning for commie care.
For a caucasian, it only takes a few minutes of exposure to sunlight each day to produce sufficient vitamin D. Darker skinned people need more sunlight, since the pigment in their skin absorbs some of the UV rays before they can penetrate below the skin.
No one needs to tan their skin to a leathery consistency to meet their daily vitamin D requirements.
Most certainly! It’s actually a rather brilliant idea when you come to think of it. How to tax whites and not affect brown, yellow or black people? Brilliant.
There are equally single-race/ethnic beauty aids, processes, etc. that the government could have also attacked, but they chose the one that affects white people.
Whoever thought Obama would be the “Post-Racial” President was smoking the Big Bambu....
"Big Leather" is the latest leftist boogeyman.
;^)
And now with Apple’s success the new one is going to be ‘Big Computer’. :^)
How about Big Media? We wouldn’t be in this mess if Big Media had done it’s job in 2008.
In a lather over leather and I’ll tan your hide! Where is the creativity in headlines?
Best place to see this phenomenon is in Australia. Sorry but many Ozzies look like dermatology textbook photos. Yikes, Mate, your hide is shot!
