In 1837, Frederic Chopin published two nocturnes that are among his most pleasant.

Chopin: Nocturne in B, Op. 32/1

The second piece is very well known, and Liszt orchestrated it in ”Les Sylphides. The F minor section is heartbreaking. This is my favorite among the nocturnes.

Chopin: Nocturne in A-flat, Op. 32/2

GOD BLESS AND PROTECT OUR TROOPS!

Sir Winston S. Churchill, KG, OM, CH, TD, PC, DL, FRS, Hon. RA (30 November 1874 – 24 January 1965)

“I would say to the House as I said to those who have joined this government: I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat. We have before us an ordeal of the most grievous kind. We have before us many, many long months of struggle and of suffering.

You ask, what is our aim? I can answer in one word: Victory. Victory at all costs — Victory in spite of all terror — Victory, however long and hard the road may be, for without victory there is no survival.”
In the House of Commons, 13May1940

Coronet Winston S. Churchill, 4th Queen's Own Hussars, 1895

Chopin, like Schubert, had the gift of making his major key melodies even sadder than his minor key melodies.

In 1838, the 28 year old Frederic Chopin and French novelist George Sand jumped into bed, beginning a tempestuous relationship. From this period comes a set of four mazurkas. The first is a bit pensive.

Chopin: Mazurka in G# minor, Op. 33/1

This one is written for ballerinas everywhere.

Chopin: Mazurka in D, Op. 33/2

This is a graceful little dance.

Chopin: Mazurka in C, Op. 33/3

The final piece is a bit sad.

Chopin: Mazurka in B minor, Op. 33/4

Crop o’the week? Pesrs, Pears and Pears. A forty gallon barrelful so far and plenty more to harvest when I break out the ladder.
