From a friend's blog in 2010

My Daughter is Expecting! Sarah is pregnant! I am expecting my second grandchild--so excited. She is already feeling queasy, which is not a good sign for an easy pregnancy. We have decided that it must be a boy. :)

Saturday, February 20, 2010 Morning Sickness Sarah is so ill with morning sickness that she can hardly function! She is throwing up everything she eats and is sleepy all the time, but she can't sleep. She goes to the doctor soon to check things out. I am glad. Something is not right.

Wednesday, March 17, 2010 Now We Know After school today, Devon and I headed to grab some Lu Lu's Asian Noodles before tutoring. We were waiting to hear from Sarah with a report from her first doctor check up/sonogram. As I pulled into the parking lot, my cell phone rang. It was Sarah, and she was crying. "Mom, I have FOUR BABIES!" she sobbed. It was one of those weird parent moments when my mind went one way and my heart went another.

"That is great news, Honey!" I said, but tears of panic started rolling down my cheeks. I couldn't even think about the babies yet. I was too worried about MY baby, even if she is grown.

Apparently, the doctor was in a panic himself. Everybody working in the office buzzed around and freaked out when the babies showed up on the monitor. The doctor was not encouraging. He gave Sarah statistics and warnings, including:

1. This is a one in a million event.
2. All four babies have strong heartbeats, so you will probably not lose them, although miscarriages are common with multiples. You just won't carry them long enough.
3. You are too small to successfully carry four babies.
4. You have only a ten percent chance of carrying them until they can survive on their own.
5. There is a high rate of defects and disabilities with multiples.

Bottom Line--He said that Sarah should selectively reduce her pregnancy; in other words, she should abort two of the babies. Dumbfounded, she asked him what he would advise his wife or daughter to do in this situation. He said, "Abort and try to get pregnant again." HIS recommendation is to abort the whole pregnancy.

I tried to encourage her, reminding her of God's love and care and plan, as long as I could without my voice breaking. Then I gave the phone to Devon, who is totally pumped. :)

When we pick ourselves up, we need to get people praying!

Lord, help us! What will we do? Our lives have changed forever, any way you look at it. It is amazing how one phone call can change everything. I feel like we were all lined up like dominoes set in a neat little pattern, and that phone call knocked us all down. We will never be the same.

The Rest of the Story...Which one would YOU abort?

The story was about God’s faithfulness and grace. If you want to read more about the family, suggest you start in 2010 on their blog. http://sondra-quadrupleblessings.blogspot.com/

While the multiple pregnancy put a far higher than normal metabolic and toxic load on the mother, here is one step I can highly recommend in any nausea situation.

My first pregancy I had constant nausea for about 6 weeks. Could not stand the smell of meat cooking. Lived on cottage cheese and bananas and soft boiled eggs. After that pregnancy I did a lot of reading about therapeutic nutrition. The books said there was a link between B6 deficiency and nausea. Also that red meat requires a lot of extra B6 in order to metabolize properly, thus the aversion to meat.

At any rate, during my second pregnancy I took 50 mg. of Vitamin B6 along with my prenatal vitamin and never had a single episode of nausea except one day when I forgot to take my vitamins. Good luck all you suffering women out there.

When it all comes back to it, it is a matter of faith. In this case, we can see faith was chosen and a successful fight for the children. For that is the choice, either to fight for them with all we are, or to give up to the gods of selfishness.

Thank you for sticking it in the eye to the Modern Media. Keep up the good work.

PS: You wouldn't see a thread like this in DU or the Daily Kos. I wonder why.

“Buy one more of everything, I guess,”

That reminds me of a story I heard years ago, back before sonograms and all that stuff. A lady was expecting and her friends had a shower for her. But when she delivered, it turned out she had twins. She called up all her friends from the shower and told them to buy her more gifts for the second baby.

When someone pointed out that might be considered a little nervy she said “I can’t have one of my children start out life deprived!”

Honestly, this is a true story.

Gorgeous! Thank you for sharing.

I’d also like to add that I know several cases where pregnant women were pressured to abort by doctors and various family members. They felt ganged up on by everyone....except the pregnant woman’s mother who offered support.

So I’d like to say a HUGE thank you to all those grandmothers-to-be who provide crucial emotional support their daughters during pregnancy (and always!).

“The story was about God’s faithfulness and grace.”

I’m very pleased. However, I marvel at the evident ease with which the husband/father was ignored in this progress report. Possibly his presumably loving and supportive role is part of God’s faithful and gracious provision, even as one might well say that of the grandfather, as I would suggest was done, implicitly.

The story wasn’t about the Dad or the Mom or the Grandma. It’s about God’s grace in saving the lives of 4 babies and proving medical “science” wrong once again.
