Former Rep. Virgil Goode hands in 20,000 signatures to make Virginia presidential ballot

Former Virginia Congressman Virgil Goode has turned in 20,500 signatures in his quest to make the presidential ballot in his home state, an effort that could potentially derail Republican Mitt Romney's presidential aspirations in a critical battleground state.

At least 10,000 valid signatures are due Friday at noon to the State Board of Elections to make the ballot. Election officials will next send the petitions to local registrars to verify the signatures.

Goode said he is optimistic he'll qualify, but just this week, the Constitution Party was forced to back out of the presidential race in Pennsylvania after the Republican Party challenged the validity of its petitions. There, Goode and his running mate, Pennsylvania native James Clymer, amassed 35,000 signatures -- 15,000 more than needed -- but the GOP raised issues with signatures from unregistered voters and names that did not match addresses.

"The Republicans have challenged wherever they can, wherever they feel like they can do it successfully," Goode said.

Republicans and Romney have the most to lose by Goode's presence in the race, particularly in Virginia. Goode remains popular in conservative circles in southern Virginia, an area where he served as a pro-gun, pro-life Democrat in the state Senate, and in Congress as a Democrat, Republican and independent between 1997 and 2009.

Actually, I’d love to see an audit of his donors. I bet many of them also contributed to Obama.

Virgil Goode, a useful idiot.

If ol’ Virgil should succeed in diverting enough votes so that 0bama ends up with Virginia’s electoral votes, we can all potentially thank that former ‘Rat for handing 0bama another 4 year term.
Really, we should probably blame Romney and the Republicans for running a bad enough candidate that enough people would not want to vote for them to enable that to happen.

If all you want is for someone to blame, then go ahead and pull the lever for that former 'Rat Goode who is nothing but a stealth tool for 0bama in Virginia. EVERYONE wanted someone more conservative than Romney, but the most important thing in this election is to GET RID OF 0BAMA, and Sarah Palin recognizes that, so does Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum, Rick Perry and Herman Cain. Are they sellouts by supporting Romney & Ryan? Or would you be happier if they went off to pout in a corner, defaulting to 0bama getting 4 more years to destroy what's left of America?

Those in swing states who will vote for that clown are the very same ones who, after Osama's taken VA by 1500 votes, thus giving him 271 Electoral votes, will be the ones to accelerate their purchases of ammo, foods that have a 20 year shelf life and portable (and not-so-portable) generators.

*BINGO*, although I suspect that many of those jokers are more likely to buy .38 ammo for a .22 rifle, frozen Swanson TV dinners with the idea that as long as they're frozen they're "ok", and saving money on a generator by buying extra car batteries. ("hey, just use the car alternator to charge 'em up, huh?") They'll be as useless in a revolution as they are in this upcoming general election.

Hey, a vote for Obama is a vote for Obama. A vote for Romney is a vote for a leftwing socialist for the next 8 years. 8 years of Romney is just as damaging as 4 more years of Obama. Supporting the GOPe candidate means you are the jelly spined slave the elites were counting on. Go ahead make them proud, it doesn’t matter what kind of country you pass on to your children and grand children. After all, your masters know best.

Sorry bud, but the GOP made a bad decision. That’s THEIR fault, not anyone else’s. It’s going to end up costing us, because Romney probably isn’t going to beat Obama, Virginia or no Virginia.

Any halfway decent conservative would be thrashing Obama right now, not struggling to keep his head barely above water.

If your goal is to convince people to vote for your guy, trashtalking those that don't want to vote for him is counterproductive.

Of course, if your goal is just to trashtalk those that disagree with you, you're doing it right.

Those who think he should swallow is pride ego and sit it out are merely pinting out that his running can only cause damage and there is no up side to his being in the ring.

The upside to his running is that the GOP will see that they have to run candidates that aren’t left of center to win. If conservatives automatically vote for the candidate with the R by his name, the elites will keep moving left and so will the government. A vote for the big government candidate is always a vote for big government, no matter who he’s running against.

Another loser who has his cult of idiots following him off the cliff

Way to market your guy to conservatives who don't want to vote for your guy.

I'm sure that you are racking up the converts with that marketing strategy.

As if reason and common sense works w these crack pots??

Been there done that and the ABR’s who are near clinical psychosis still want to race off the cliff w Obama for four more years of hell.

No more trying to reason w these idiots, that day has long passed.

Where did you get that prediction, from your Magic 7-Ball? And if 0bama DOES win another term on November 6th, you'll be able to cluck your tongue and say "I told you so", isn't that what this is all about in your head?

Any halfway decent conservative would be thrashing Obama right now, not struggling to keep his head barely above water.

So you want to keep yourself pure and unsoiled and not be associated with a 'loser', right?

Couldn’t even win his own district. Most people in VA still don’t know who he is.

The ABR’s who failed to unify behind anyone have no one to blame but themselves and their little “I’m going to hold my breath unless . . . . .” game is no longer interesting in the least bit.
