I expected the worst when I heard ABC and NBC were going to do in-depth examinations of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As a life long Mormon and journalist, I had gotten used to the media clouding their reporting on the LDS Church.
I was pleasantly surprised at the accuracy and context with which the reporting was done.
ABC's Dan Harris did a two-part series that was simply factual about the LDS Church. No frills or opinions, just the facts about the Church. He focused on the temples and showed video of the inside of a temple yet to be dedicated in Brigham City, Utah. He accurately portrayed the history of persecution inflicted on members of the Church 150 years ago. It was very well done and kudos to Harris for his reporting.
NBC did a full hour with Brian Williams on Rock Center focusing on the LDS Church. They mentioned some of the controversial aspects of the Church, but for the most part, did it fairly. In a conversation with Abbey Huntsman (who is a former Mormon and daughter of former Republican candidate for President Jon Huntsman) Williams talked about how he would like to be able to walk into a Mormon temple and see what was inside, as he could with any other church, but they failed to mention that Mormon churches are open to anybody who wants to go inside, temples are not. It's a minor point, but the distinction between a church and a temple in the LDS faith should've been made.

I think turnabout is fair play. Examine Mormonism? Okay. How about an examination of Islam, the religion of our dear leader?
How about an hour news special on NBC?
I don't know; I was busy doing other things in 2008.
ABC did seem to get the ball rolling on Wright but I don't know if it generated pieces comparable to these Mormon ones.
The guy that refused the Biden team admission to his bakery was on Gretta Van Susterin’s program the other evening.
He explained why he didn’t let them in, and happened to mention the words ‘religious differences’ when talking about his thoughts on the Obama administration.
Susterin asked, “You’re not prejudiced based on religion are you?” {paraphrased}
Ask me the question Gretta. I’m not bashful about explaining why I am prejudiced against religions that preach death and destruction to Westerners, and even from pulpits in our own nation.
Wake up you twit. (Susterin)
Yes, ABC may have gotten that ball rolling, but where’s the beef today?
If that had been a Conservative saying things like that, do you think ABC would have ever have stopped mentioning it? No, they’d be reminding folks constantly.
I know you agree with this, so this isn’t intended to tell you something you don’t know. It’s just something I think we need to focus on from time to time even if we all know it.
It’s amazing what these networks get away with.
When Mitt Romney mentions a birth certificate that is racist but when the networks conduct a jihad against Mormonism to undermine Romney that is not bigoted.
So concerned are the main stream media and the progressives who encourage, support and coddle the muslims. Do they murder thier own children, physically and mentally abuse thier wives and then murder them, strap bombs on thier childrens back? OK Im sold!
They had segregationist policies that were quite similar to the Democrat party policies and changed these policies about the same time that the Democrat party did.
They had polygamist policies that were very similar to Obama's father's polygamist policies, and eliminated those policies years ago. Obama's father and his religion have never changed theirs.
They have some religious practices that seem odd to people that have different religious practices. Obama's religions have practices are also quite odd, and to most of us, these are much stranger than those of Mormonism.
I short, any media outlet that makes any attempt to pretend to be unbiased, will have a hard time giving an honest appraisal of Mormonism and still make it seem scary compared with the Obama religions.
Our great networks did the same number on Kennedy for being a Catholic, on Nixon for being a Quaker. It is part of the war on religion that all Progressives are waging in America.
“The problem with attacking Mormonism, is that there is little to attack.”
A little “creative editing” by the “Obama networks” can overcome that pretty easily.
” will have a hard time giving an honest appraisal of Mormonism and still make it seem scary compared with the Obama religions.”
That much is true, but Mormons have some bizarre doctrines and practices. The average American is going to be puzzled by them at the very least.
Mark Simone on WABC Radio this morning called it a “dog whistle” to remind everyone Romney is a Mormon.
Christians will be shocked to learn that Romney believes that he himself will become a God, and rule over his own devoted believers and worshipers.
Christians will be shocked to learn that Mormonism is an anti-Christian cult founded primarily for money and sex, but on the theology of self worship, becoming Gods and of destroying Christianity.
People will be surprised to learn that the Romneys immigrated to America for the sole purpose of serving Joseph Smith 170 years ago, and have never strayed from that devotion to his cult, and that Mitt sought the permission of his Holy Prophet to conduct this presidential race.
You don’t think that the first presidential candidate, that will become a God himself, might of a little interest to people?
Do you think that Christians might be a little discomfited finding out that Billy Graham is going to be baptized into Mormonism, or that Pope John II is already been turned from a Catholic into a Mormon?
