U.S. Senate challenger Todd Akin's support in Missouri has plummeted since his remarks a week ago about "legitimate rape" and pregnancy, putting him 9 points behind Sen. Claire McCaskill in a race he was previously winning, according to a new Post-Dispatch/News 4 poll.
More than half of Missouri voters now view the Republican congressman unfavorably, the poll indicates, and fewer than one in five view him favorably.
Akin's fall is especially dramatic among women. They were about evenly split between Akin and McCaskill in a similar poll at the end of July, but women now oppose him by almost 20 percentage points. Even in rural areas where Akin retains the lead, his support has dropped significantly from a month ago.

"I've seen plenty of challengers nine points down come back and win, but not with this many obstacles," including loss of party support and funding nationally, said pollster J. Brad Coker of Mason-Dixon Polling & Research Inc. of Washington, which conducted the poll for the Post-Dispatch and KMOV-TV. "It's not a rosy picture."

Sure is. They are acting just like the Blame Republicans for Everything Democrats when their guy screws up.
Or Obama will be saved by tying himself to McCaskill. Think, man. Republicans didn't pick this candidate. Democrats did. And they did so because they thought he was the easiest candidate to beat in November.
Within a period of less than two weeks, Akin has turned a 'can't lose' race into a 'can't win'. No wonder McCaskill wants him to remain in the contest.
I am from Missouri too and with Todd Akins what makes you think he will support R/R of he is Senator?
Huckabee is his Master and Akins is showing he is just another political hack wanting to keep hI’m and hIs family on the DC dole.

The liberal St. Louis Post-Dispatch WANTS Akin to stay in. They have editorialized so. McCaskill desperately wants Akin to stay in and not step aside. Akin gives them their best chance of winning. This will be their tune until September 25, the last day Akin could withdraw. Then it will be bombs away.
September 25--that is the pivotal date. If Akin consistently polls badly between now and September 25 and shows no signs of recovering, then I hope he withdraws for the good of the cause. If he stays in through September 25 and is the only alternative to McCaskill, and looks like he has a chance, then I will actively support him.

There is way too much realism in your sarcasm. And that is the sad thing about this situation.
You are so right. True courage is propping up a candidate who damages the credibility of the conservative movement while cowardice is wanting leaders who espouse the same conservatism but with crediblity so it resonates with those who will hear the message so the philosophy can be put into action.
When heading into the battle, the cowards want a leader who provides credible leadership when facing down the enemy and helps us to be well armed. Those with true courage go running into battle with the leader who supplies weapons without any ammunition in them.
