Ari Ephraim Rubin, vice chairman of the Jewish Defense League long led by his father, Irving (Irv) Rubin, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound on July 20. He was 30.
Ari Rubin had been active since his youth in the militant JDL, which has long been rejected by mainstream Jewish organizations for its violent tactics, and he became vice chairman in 2006.
His death was ruled a suicide by the Los Angeles County coroners office, whose spokesman, Craig Harvey, said that a neighbor found Rubin in his car with the self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head.
The report was confirmed by Sgt. Marty Morrow of the Glendora police department, who said that foul play was ruled out, though no suicide note was found.
Local media did not pick up on the story because the family limited the announcement to a paid obituary in the Pasadena Star-News of July 25, while the coroner and police treated the case as a routine suicide.
Ari Rubins death continues the chain of violence that has ended the lives of the JDL leadership overall, and the Rubin family in particular.
Rabbi Meir Kahane, who founded JDL in 1968, was murdered in 1990 in New York by an Arab-American assassin. His son, Binyamin Zev Kahane, 34, was killed 10 years later, by Palestinian gunmen, while driving with his wife and five daughters to their home in a West Bank settlement.
Irv Rubin, Rabbi Kahanes successor, was reported by officials to have committed suicide in 2002 in a Los Angeles federal detention center after cutting his throat with a jail-issued razor and then jumping or falling over a railing and plummeting to his death.
Rubin, 57, had been indicted and was awaiting trial for allegedly plotting to bomb a Culver City mosque and the offices

Which means we probably need more men like those, and less left-wing distortion of their legacy. Enough weakness in the face of the enemy.
How many are murders, how many are suicides? The two aren’t the same thing.
A high Californian state official has maintained that the Kahanes had killed “innumerable” people. Of course, he’s an extreme leftist associated with the ADL and SPLC.
In reality you’ll find that both Kahanes were killed by muslim assassins, and that the same very probably goes for the Rubins. We did at one point manage to drill down to the supposed FBI informant that gave up Irv. There was no case there,
After 10 yrs, my memory had faded a bit, but I do remember hearing of this and how it sounded a bit fishy.
Cutting your throat with the thread-thin strip of a bic razor. Very doubful if that is even possible.
There’s no way in hell either one of the Rubins “killed themselves”, based on those descriptions
More likely account to me is that someone sneaked a blade in, and used it to attack him and then chucked his body over the barrier. And this was a someone of the Moose persuasion.
Orthodox Jewish communities are tight knit and often cool towards strangers, with a huge emphasis on proper formalities, and so if a lot of people knew something they’d never tell it to the world.
The excuse for getting Irv into jail was a supposed FBI informant who had delivered information about buying gunpowder for Irv to make a bomb. That’s a pretty unlikely story all by itself. The informat’s name was given out, but he “mysteriously disappeared”.
Not really. He changed name and grew a beard, and was later caught up in military stockade. Seems he refused to go on his tour. I seem to remember he physically attacked his commanding officer.
The problem is that they managed to piss off other people besides the Los Angeles Muslims. There are people in city government in Los Angeles who turned a blind eye to the murders. A number of my fellow Jews are not duly unhappy to find that Rabbi Kahane, Irv Rubin, or their sons died.
There are plenty of men who have the fire in their belly to defend what is right, they just don't seem to make as many enemies as the JDL did.
Well, there’s precious little that can be done about left wing distortion except to tell right wing truth in the most credible possible way.
Moslems hate Jews as a racist thang. It seems to trump considerations of religion. They hate secular or even Christianized Jews as much as they hate Orthodox Jews. This is a situation where all sensible Jewish and Christian bodies should be working together to counter the assault of this Islamic hate. And by hate I mean what they do, not what they privately think.
