Ron Paul on Romney: ‘I don’t fully endorse him for president’

TAMPA -- Mitt Romney's presidential campaign gave Texas Rep. Ron Paul a chance to speak at the Republican National Convention, but he declined due to the conditions of the offer, the New York Times reports:

Mr. Paul, in an interview, said convention planners had offered him an opportunity to speak under two conditions: that he deliver remarks vetted by the Romney campaign, and that he give a full-fledged endorsement of Mr. Romney. He declined.

"It wouldn't be my speech," Mr. Paul said. "That would undo everything I've done in the last 30 years. I don't fully endorse him for president."

He won’t veto what Republicans pass in Congress.

Romney isn’t my first choice. Or second. But he can win and stopping Obama is the only hope for our Republic.

Not voting or voting for another candidate is supporting Obama’s agenda.

Maybe the GOP is trying to avoid a moment like Buchannan had at the 1992 convention w Paul who might go up there and cause a total meltdown?

Give how paul acts - who could blame them for that concern?

Ron Paul, surrender monkey, is just looking for as much attention as he can drum up before he has to go away for another four years. He is nothing but an attention whore who couldn’t care less if the Kenyan is allowed to inflict his damage on this country for four more years. It’s all about Ron. STFU Ron Paul.

Only principle I have is getting the communist destroyer out of office in november.

I would vote for the Son of Sam if that is what it took.

I have one guiding principle for this election. I won’t help re-elect Barack Obama. Period.

I am sure Palin was given the same offer....fully endorse Rommey and get speech preapproved.

If any of us were running for office and looking for a banquet speaker, we all would require the same thing.

Ron Paul isn't the only person not happy with Romney. Many people will be voting AGAINST Obama, but that doesn't mean the same thing as voting for Romney.

I am voting for Romney 100 percent, but I will be damned if I am going to cheerlead the guy ESPECIALLY on Free Republic. I will express my truthful thoughts about Romney here....I will not on Facebook because although I hate the guy with a passion, he must beat Obama....But I will not admit that very often especially on Free Republic. This is my political haven where people are supposed to have the same political thoughts that I do....However, since Romney has been nominated, it seems that Free republic has gone away from the principles made from this site and conservative values. I don't see one reason why Romney can't be “bashed” for his loony ideas and votes. I don't see why it must be St. Romney all the time. Heck with that. He does not deserve it at all.

My mission and goal is to oust obama from office - has ZERO to do with whether i like mittens or not.

Mittens is the only possible avenue to get rid of obama and these gary johnson, goode, paul fanatics, and others are simply too delusional to see it.

HELLOOOO. It's election season. The liberal press will do everything it can to get the right not to vote. In this case, "Paul supporters should get angry and just stay home."

Always check the source. Is it known for balanced reporting?

For gosh sakes. This is Yahoo. Why are we even discussing it, let alone believing it?

“Wake up and smell the roses. Romney will be one of the greatest Presidents since Regan. Ignorance is no excuse. “

Who is the Regan of which you speak? You might want to put the crack pipe down before you type.... Romney is all but a Democrat, and will govern accordingly. Nothing great about that.

I don’t know of one person on this site who voted for Myth in the primary.

I myself voted for Ron Paul in the NYS primary!

At this point there is only one way possible and available to oust Obama and that is R&R. It is what it is.

Would Santorum or Newt been better? Probably, but could they appeal to indes and raise the $$$$ needed? Don’t know.

Makes you wonder why he doesn’t endorse Romney, since they are so much alike.

Wake up and smell the roses. Romney will be one of the greatest Presidents since Regan. Ignorance is no excuse.

With the hand he is being dealt, he well could be. Some men achieve greatness. Others have it thrust upon them. If in four years, Romney brings unemployment under 5% and brings the deficit under $400 billion, he would have pulled off a Presidential miracle even greater than what Reagan did. Not to take a single thing away from Reagan, but the problems we currently face are well within Romney's area of expertise.

(Full disclosure: I supported Santorum in the primary)
