Karl Rove predicts historic loss for Todd Akin

TAMPA, Fla.— Karl Rove on Monday predicted Rep. Todd Akin will lose by the widest margin of any Republican candidate in modern history if he remains in his Missouri Senate race against Sen. Claire McCaskill.

“What he said was indefensible and the way he handled it made it worse,” Rove told POLITICO’s Mike Allen at the first POLITICO Playbook Breakfast at the Republican National Convention.

“This is a program that he taped and obviously he saw nothing wrong with it in his tape,” Rove said, pointing out that Akin didn’t respond to the taped interview until two days later.

Rove said Akin has no option other than getting out of the race.

“I would like to ask my fellow Missouri Conservatives and others in their Right Mind, just who these morons at the National level of the eGOP think we’re going to pull for?”

Ok, but the election isn’t going to be determined by conservative Reps. We will turn out our base and the Dems will turn out theirs.
Its the moderates and the independents that will determine who will win this election.
So tell me how does Akin convince that 10-15% of those groups, that he is the candidate they should choose?
He has already offended a large enough number of them to never even come close to winning.

Isn’t the modern record holder, Rick Santorum, who was booted out of his Senate seat with a 17 or 18 point loss?

“There should not be a single person right of center that openly talks about this thing by now. He’s in for now, and people need to shut up about it.”

Well go ahead, and stick your head in the sand and pretend this issue is having no effect nationwide.

The MSM/Dems can’t hold back their glee that a strict pro-life Rep has finally spoken his heart, and validated their beliefs that all pro-lifers are in effect TODD AKIN.

To be sacrilegious in words but not meaning, Todd Akin is the word become flesh for the Dems.

Thanks a lot TODD!

This could be an example of reverse psychology. I think Akin has a legitimate shot. McCaskill still has plenty of time to say something stupid.

Rove is the guy that gave us and explains for us the government of Bush(s). Not that the government of Obama is any better, in fact much, much worse, but Rove is a very partisan political who does not see all of the USA society. Looking at families for the USA I’ll put Akin’s family along any other including the Bush as to being for the USA.

Protecting life within the womb is not a black or white thing, as you imply....

supporting a candidate (with my financial resources) who re-victimizing women who have been raped is another thing.
Life in the womb IS black and white. The child is either living or it is not. As far as your continuing thoughts, do you think a raped woman who conceives is "re-victimized" when she then receives an abortion? Abortion is even worse than rape, as it involves allowing the murder of the tiniest (and most helpless) of God's creatures. The horror of rape is not forgotten by receiving an abortion; in fact, now the woman has two violent episodes to deal with and heal from. Akin is protecting the child (and the mother!) through his stance. The most chivalrous men in the world, are those that stand up "hard" for life.

Drop dead, Karl Rove. I am sick and tired of the political machines (both sides) telling us who to like, what to think. People of Missouri, use you brains AND your hearts. McCaskill or Akin? Who would the “nonperson” babies vote for?

“I think Akin has a legitimate shot. McCaskill still has plenty of time to say something stupid.”

So how does he have a shot if he has no money and he will be outspent 7-1.

No organization since the state and national GOP are not going to help him set up and run his campaign.

No message that will ever get out above the din of the rape issue.

I f I were a betting man, I would put my money on Akin saying something stupid again before McCaskill.

Oh, thank God!

I was afraid that we’d be denied the presence of the lovely, evervescent Miz Caskill from our illustrious Senate!

They want Akin to step aside so they can replace him with another pro-life conservative Republican who can beat the Democrat.

And you can bet he or she will get pushed into a corner and grilled on the subject by the left wing media and no matter how he or she answers they will be made to look like a fool

well when you get a chance, post on the board here, the GOP definition as stated in their platform, defining legitimate rape.

Why is that necessary??? Don't they have dictionaries over there???

So I see no answer is there, but that is typical of you with your ideological blinders pulled so tight you couldn’t see realville if they tattooed the zip code on your nose.

Rove does not give a damn who you are as long as you have a “R” beside your name. He is a first rate idiot.

Baloney. Akin wasn't made to look like a fool...he opened his own mouth and the words of an imbecile crawled out.

Holy smokes! That should negate any possibility of a sincere apology and reinforce that the man is a complete and utter no-show for the job.

The fact that he has not removed himself to let another Republican take the seat, it show his ill intent against the GOP and his catering to the democrats.

Here is what I object to Akin’s statement: That a woman who is pregnant by what she claims was a rape must not actually have been raped because the woman’s body shuts down when there is an actual rape (he used the word “legitimate” rape).

Well, Akin's statement was foolish and I don't know of any hard science that backs it, but if you look at the original quote from Akin, he did not say that a woman must not have really been raped if she gets pregnant. Here is what he actually said when asked if abortion should be legal in the case of rape:

“It seems to me, from what I understand from doctors, that’s really rare,” Akin told KTVI-TV. “If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down. But let’s assume that maybe that didn’t work or something: I think there should be some punishment, but the punishment ought to be of the rapist, and not attacking the child.”

From the above quote, you can see that Akin did not say that all or even most rape victims will not get pregnant. He said it's rare for pregnancies to occur in rape. That is why Akin says at the end of the quote that the rapist should be punished for the rape not the baby who was conceived in rape. The fact that he mentions that a baby is conceived in rape implies that the mother can and does conceive when a rape occurs, but that the baby should not be punished for this. So how did Akin say that a woman must not have been raped if she is pregnant? He didn't, but the democrats/liberal media seem eager to exploit this gaffe for political purposes.

Now, do I believe the state should protect life from conception? No, I do not.

It sounds like you are admitting that life begins at conception, but are arguing that not all human life should be protected by the state. That doesn't make sense to me. If it's a human life from conception, then how can you morally terminate it without committing murder of an innocent person? If life does begin at conception would it be morally permissible for the government to turn a blind eye to murder?

I think what Akin said was messed up. Not so much the 'legitimate rape' part, but the part about the Magic Discriminating Ovaries.

That said: Why is it that I always see Rove attacking REPUBLICANS and not DEMOCRATS.

Wrong the first thing a new candidate will be asked is whether an exception should be made for Rape and if he answers NO he will be pilloried no end no matter how he states the answer

Its the inference to illegitimate rape, and the inference, is crystal clear, or this would have blown over a long time ago.
He said what he truly believed. Its just the fact of the matter.
