Love Him or Hate Him, You Don't Know Him: Obama's America, 2016
The Chicago Daily Observer ^ | August 27, 2012 | Daniel J. Kelley

Obama is a proponent of failed economic policies that have left much of the Third World mired in poverty. Rather than acknowledging that centralized economic planning is a failure, Obama faults America’s industrial might as the cause of economic malaise that has crippled much of Africa. The answer, therefore, is not to abandon the discredited economic policies, but to disable America so as to level the playing field. Once America is bankrupt, Kenyan economic programs are bound to succeed!

As someone who follows politics and current events closely, I thought that I was better informed about Barack Obama’s radicalism than most people. Nevertheless, the new documentary film exposed me to much more information than I had previously been aware of. Obama is not as bad as I thought. Arguably, he is worse, much worse. If you still subscribe to American exceptionalism or believe in American ideals, you need to see this movie with an undecided voter who is persuadable.

In 2008, I was initially disturbed by Obama’s bizarre hero worship of his absentee Kenyan father which sometimes bordered upon pagan idolatry. During the same 2008 campaign, by virtue of reading British newspaper articles, I was aware of the fact that Obama’s father was less of an outstanding academic and renowned economist and more of a violent alcoholic and bigamist. He was also a Marxist who believed that a tax rate of one hundred percent could be justifiable.

Thank you, I have been reading the book and plan to see the movie. The book is disturbing; it is interesting how the book uses Obama’s autobiographical work of fiction to illustrate Dinesh D’Souza’s hypothesis.

I am occasionally troubled that some parts of the book rely on fiction from Obama’s book which we know did not actually happen. For example D’Souza says that Obama Sr. abandoned his adoring bride, Stanley Ann and little Barry Jr. when he went to Harvard. Despite the official narrative there is no evidence that Obama Sr. ever lived with little Barry or Stanley Ann. Those types of details may not be important. And I find that Dinesh D’Souza’s hypothesis does seem to do a better job explaining Obama’s actions than any other that I have come across. It is the best that we have so far.

I was wondering what someone who read the book would think of the movie.

I think the movie could have been a little more effective had they stretched it out to 2 hours and include more on Obama’s belief that his grandfather was tortured by the brits as well Obama’s actions in a bunch of other areas.

Its a good movie and you should go see it, but you will not learn anything new.

The best part of the movie for me was the back ground music.

In 2008, I was initially disturbed by Obama’s bizarre hero worship of his absentee Kenyan father which sometimes bordered upon pagan idolatry.

First, Dreams describes feelings Obama claims to have felt as a child or an adolescent. At that age, it's not unheard of for children to idealize an absent parent. But what the book relates doesn't convey whatever Obama's adult feelings may be, any more than an account of your childhood or mine would explain our current emotions and views.

Secondly, we know that the book played up the racial theme and the "Mother from Kansas, Father from Kenya" theme. Without the mixed race background and the foreign (absent) father, there wouldn't have been any story or any book or any fat book contract, so it was in the interest of whoever put the book together to give greater emphasis to a father who really didn't play much of a role in his son's life and to family myths that may not have been very important either.

I really doubt Obama had much emotionally invested in the family myths of Kenyan or Indonesian anti-colonialism that his father's and step-father's families circulated. Look to Chicago -- to Alinsky and to practical Chicago Democratic politics -- if you want to know where Obama is coming from, whatever ideas or feelings may be circulating in the background.

But the anti-colonial theme is very important to Dinesh D'Souza. He even attributes Obama's lack of interest in his half-brother George's difficulties to conflicts over imperialism and colonialism (when it's pretty obvious that family feelings are neither very warm or very deep in the Obama clan). But there's a reason for that. "Anti-colonial" Indians seized Dinesh's home city of Goa in the year he (and Obama) was born. So this stuff is very important to him.

For the rest of us -- not so much. Figuring out the rights and wrongs of colonialism and imperialism and anti-colonialism and anti-imperialism isn't easy. The answer isn't going to be a simple for or against. Pitting Thomas Jefferson and George Washington against "anti-colonialism" also looks way too oversimplified.

You make some interesting points. I doubt that any of us wil ever learn any of the true answers anytime soon. Obama, Inc., is predicated upon myths rather than dreams.

Take the point about his white mother from Kansas. Stanley Ann Dunham’s connections to that Midwestern state are quite thin. She spent most of her childhood and adult life elsewhere. It is sort of like calling Gerald R. Ford a Nebraskan rather than a Michigander. Technically true, but so what?

For all of the time and energy expended on the birth certificate issue, I think the bigger story is to be found in Obama’s suppressed student records. I suspect that he accessed some easy dollars for higher ed by claiming to be a foreign student as a means of cashing in. Barack and Michelle have delusions of adequacy and powerful senses of entitlement. For all of their complaining, both of them have shaken down the USA for every dollar that they could and gotten quite wealthy in the process by feeding at the public trough.

It should say “If you love him you don’t know him”.

I watched the movie today and have to say that the focus is exclusively on D’Souza’s perception on anti-colonialism. He pretty much gave a pass to every other issue and I think that there is more to Obama’s motives than anti-colonialism. I agree with the other poster that the clues hidden in Obama’s concealed records are vital to knowing for sure what is going on. If all Obama wanted to do was settle perceived wrongs, he still needs to have funding to do that, to get financing to do all that he’s done. I’m still of the opinion that he’s little more than a puppet and that D’Souza has given him more credit than he deserves.

I do believe that Obama wants to take down the USA, but I think that it is more than an anti-colonialism thing. I think that he’s been bought and paid for by people behind the scenes and that his payoff is $$$ and fame, power and position. All of that requires his cooperation and silence on things that could render him useless to them.

I viewed the film once. Packed house of middle age and senior citizens. At the conclusion— after a minute of ‘someone drug my flag in the mud and pulled a big wool cap over me and now I have to admit it’—followed by sporadic applause as they finally admitted they were flat out suckers. The applause did not come easily to many. It was a go ahead and kick me for my stupidity moment of admission.
WE get the government we DESERVE.

I would like to see this movie, but it won’t be playing in my home town. I’ll have to wait for it to be out on DVD, and the election might be over by then.

Goa (famous Indian vacation spot?) was a former Portuguese colony, wasn't it? I always wondered how this Indian guy had a Portuguese surname.

My wife & I took in a Friday matinee of “2016”. Half full with retirees like us & older. When the house lights went up there was much back & forth among the audience. One old fogie declared, “Hey you guys, I’m a Democrat!” He was roundly jeered (would like to have reported that they pelted him with popcorn, but no).

IMO the best part was the interview with George Obama. No wonder Barack won’t help him, they disagree on everything. The anticolonialist in the WH, the Kenyan living in poverty who misses the British.

Conclusion (as if we didn’t already know): Obama prez is the product of his convoluted background. He’s not a Muslim but probably agnostic, and he was steeped & marinated in leftism from childhood as though he was incubated in a test tube. BO beat a weak ticket to get elected; at least he’s facing some real opposition now.

That’s our only hope, Obi-Wan.
