Road Trip: United States Army Research, Development and Engineering Command, Maryland

The U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command is a major subordinate command of the Army Materiel Command, and is charged with "creating, integrating and delivering technology-enabled solutions to our Soldiers."

 With its headquarters at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, RDECOM scientists, engineers and researchers work at laboratories and research center across the nation and the globe. With more than 17,000 employees, RDECOM performs nearly all of the Army's basic and applied research and technology development.

The U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command is the Army's technology leader and largest technology developer. RDECOM ensures the dominance of Army capabilities by creating, integrating and delivering technology-enabled solutions to our Soldiers.

To meet this commitment to the Army, RDECOM develops technologies in its eight major laboratories and research, development and engineering centers. It also integrates technologies developed in partnership with an extensive network of academic, industry, and international partners.

RDECOM provides the Army with an organic research and development capability. More than 17,000 Soldiers, civilian employees and direct contractors form this world-class team. As part of that team, there are 11,000 engineers and scientists, many of whom are the Army's leading experts in their fields.

A fundamental characteristic of this workforce is the focus on the Soldier. Whether providing technology solutions to meet current operational needs or developing break-through technologies for the next generation, RDECOM stands at the forefront of what the Soldier eats, wears, fires, flies or drives.

Reading is nice...I wish I had more time. I’ve got books on my iPad and that affords me the opportunity to read more because it goes where I go...I get to read a couple pages here and a couple pages there. I’ll take what I can get.

Suppose the only good news is that no relatives are in the path of Issac but a couple friends may be.

Just out with my son until a few minutes ago so there's a bit of catching up to do....but won't give you my asssessment of the news other than it's the same as yesterday's.

Linda doesn’t mind getting wet, but she hates walking through puddles and gets VERY upset with lightening and Thunder.

I think the very low barometric pressure just preceding the storms were unpleasant for her as well. (sigh) poor baby!
