Romney says abortion legal for mother's health [to CBS on 8/27/2012]

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Republican Mitt Romney says he is in favor of abortion in cases of rape, incest and the health and life of the mother.

The presidential candidate's addition of the health of the mother is certain to raise questions about Romney's position among conservatives. Health can be broadly defined and, in fact, running mate Paul Ryan has challenged the health exception as a major loophole.

Romney commented in an interview Monday with CBS News.

Romney's position on abortion rights has evolved. When he ran for the U.S. Senate in Massachusetts, he backed abortion rights. As a presidential candidate, he has opposed abortion rights and says the Supreme Court should reverse the landmark Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion.

In a statement, Romney campaign spokeswoman Andrea Saul said Romney's position is clear — that he opposes abortion except for cases of rape, incest and where the life of the mother is threatened.

Since Romney's "crack" spokes-BSer Andrea Saul seems to be contradicting what Romney said in a Monday CBS interview, I guess we'll have to wait and see if we get any further clarification. No surprise as usual that Romney and his campaign team can't keep his positions or their message straight.

if the woman says having the baby would make her sad or depressed, that counts as a “health” risk.

Romney is as pro-life as Margaret Sanger

That was the loophole that Reagan accepted in 1968.

Now, 44 years later, Romney has no excuse to not know about how that loophole is used.

And he hasn’t even been nominated yet.

Probably the only thing I could ever agree with Ted Kennedy about is when he said Romney was neither pro-life nor pro-choice. He’s “multiple-choice”

Notice that Romney is starting to promote RomneyCare and now this about Abortion all within a weeks time - Once he seals the nomination officially he will turn to the left not the usual middle that most nominees do in the general but LEFT as his mask starts to come off

This may also be an attempt to distract social conservatives from the Romney/GOP-E attempt at the convention to disembowel the GOP party rules to allow replacement of popularly elected delegates by the appointment od GOP-E RINO donors and permanent mushball commentariat types. These replacements would occur because the candidate says so and hot because the delegate resigns. Folks, they are stealing the party out from under us. They have not yet gotten over the fact that GOP voters chose Ronaldus Maximus instead of George Herbert Walker Bush in 1980.

Romney doesn’t bother to hide that he has no use for conservatives, thinking he can lose us and still find a parade. Curious he contacts first the NYT, reportedly, to announce a Rules compromise had been reached, before informing the delegates themselves. Malkin’s blog guest mentioned this and hotair has the NYT story up, while Rule 12 hangs in the balance yet, as I understand it.

Here is the CBS interview clip:

"My position has been clear throughout this campaign," Romney said. "I'm in favor of abortion being legal in the case of rape and incest, and the health and life of the mother."

Romney is a candidate who may have to be held accountable by the right on various social issues.

It's either elect Romney or re-elect a President who has a record as one of the country's absolute worst extremists on abortion, a man who actively supported partial birth abortion when an IL State Senator and who currently now promotes perversion by speaking out in favor of gay marriage and federally funded contraception/sterilization.

I know who I'm picking.

"Recognize this is the decision that will be made by the Supreme Court," he said. "The Democrats try and make this a political issue every four years, but this is a matter in the courts. It's been settled for some time in the courts."

"Romney" means winding river. It's appropriate. One never gets a straight stance out of him.

Illinois senator Barack Obama co-sponsored a bill which allows the abortionist to kill the baby if it is born alive during a late term abortion. To me nothing is more extreme than Obama’s position on abortion.

Romney is behaving like a snake in grass. I don’t like it one bit. Also just came from seeing “2016”. Have you seen it yet?

Governor Mitt Romney: “I’m proud of my faith. There is nothing I distance myself from. There are Mormons in the leadership of my Church who are pro-choice, and they do not violate that. You’re not a lawyer, but you have to read that a little bit more carefully.”

By the way, people forget that Mitt Romney IS a lawyer.
