GOP Rules Committee Rapidly Moving to Shut Out Grassroots at 2:00 p.m. Today (It's not over)
RedState ^ | Tuesday August 28, 2012 | Erick Erickson

Posted on 08/28/2012 7:31:55 AM PDT by Bigtigermike

At 2:00 p.m. today in Tampa, the Republican National Committee, led by Team Romney, is moving to shut down conservative grassroots activists. I’ve been on the phone with several individuals involved in the fight who tell me that the fight is not over, it is only just starting.

Specifically, the media is reporting that the rules fight is over because Team Romney is abandoning Ben Ginsberg’s effort to allow candidates to control delegates. Under an initial proposal, delegates would, in effect, be chosen by the presumed nominee’s campaign and not based on votes in the states and delegate selection processes in the states.

That issue appears resolved, but several people I’ve spoken to this morning make clear that Team Romney and the RNC establishment are using that compromise as a red herring to distract from two major rules change proposals that would decimate Republican grassroots and prevent upstart political campaigns.

Reports that the floor fight threat is over might be designed to calm the grassroots and get them to ignore what is coming at 2 o’clock.

The first rule to be proposed is one that would give the Republican National Committee the power to change rules between conventions with a three-quarters vote of the RNC. One source tells me, “With a Republican President, of course this is doable. Everybody will roll over if a President Romney asks them too. They’ll be able to get Ben Ginsberg’s proposal next year.”

In other words, if Team Romney prevails in this rules change, they don’t have to worry about Ben Ginsberg not getting his way today on the delegate changes. They’ll be able to do it later when the press and grassroots are not watching.

The second rules change would front load winner takes all primaries.

“Is Drudgereport still on the web?”

I wouldn’t know. After Bloody Thursday he is as irrelevant to me as Peggy Snoozin’.

You forgot one thing:

“Just My ((your)) Humble Opinion.”

I happen to not believe a word of your not-so-humble ego trip.

You will accomplish ONLY one thing: the re-election of Obama. Not acceptable to me. JMHO

I think you’re right on the money, RitaOK.

I read an article earlier in the primary season that said the GOP-E will always retain control of the GOP because they have a set of rules they themselves have written and which they are in control of and won’t lose control of by virtue of the way they’ve written those rules.

Yes, I’ve had a couple of those party peons get hostile with me too. Hey lackey, you came into MY HOUSE when YOU called ME begging for MY STUFF!

I no longer care. Burn this motherf***** to the ground for all I care. If our choices are, full-on Communism under Obama, or Socialism under Romney AND OUR CONSERVATIVE VOICES ARE NO LONGER HEARD OR MEANINGFUL, the USA needs to go down. Hard. Under Obama.

Because it's no longer worth saving.

Romney Camp Removing Rules Committee Members

By Michael Duncan on August 28, 2012
I just got off the phone with a concerned Florida activist, Laura Noble, who informed me that both of Florida’s Rules Committee members, Peter Feaman and Kathleen King, have been removed from the Rules committee and replaced with Romney-appointed delegates.

Clearly anticipating a grassroots backlash against the “compromise” on Rule 15 and the changes on Rule 12 has caused the Romney camp to preemptively replace delegates to ensure they have support on the Rules Committee.

If people keep supporting GOPe leftist and liberals, there will be absolutely no reason for them to change.

This is all about compromise over conservatism, party over principle.

I refuse to aid and abet this again.

We watched Romney sabotage Palin in 2008. We watched (in horror) as the progressive liberal became the 2012 leader of the conservative party. We've seen him denounce Akin and help try to remove a solid conservative from the Senate run. We've listened to him prattle on about his pride in RomneyCare. We've seen team Romney maneuver to acquire abject authority over delegates at convention.

After all this being out there for any rational mind to process, what I don't understand is some people's inability to distinguish "fake conservatives" from genuine conservatives, or to correctly ascertain which group is allowing their ego to override the will of the people.

Why am I reminded of the Palm Beach vote counters in Bush/Gore trying to count the votes behind closed doors?

Theoretically Obama is frozen in place with a Republican capitol and purse strings wrapped in a knot, shut down entirely, to everything he even dares to think of.

Not so with Marxist Lite Romney, dragging around the same socialist/Marxist/redistribution/religious-liberty-taking record from MA.

We know exactly what Romney will do, all with the eager aid and abettment of Republicans who will not freeze him in place.

I noticed you did not answer my question.

I also noticed that you intentionally ignored that I specifically stated what I would do and why. I never stated what other should do, which would require the JMHO clarification.

I think the GOP elite fear a primary challenger in 2016. I want the option of picking someone else.

“PULL THIS STUNT AND I VOTE FOR OBAMA.”

Please, please reconsider. This is not merely a boardgame. Voting for a real culture of death bastard is to lend real power to real malevolence.

That is why I can’t vote for either one of these corrupted persons.

votes decide elections.

Your last statement says it best. The time to prepare for these battles is BEFORE the first local party election. Waiting for the convention is a pointless exercise in this day and age.

Conventions were originated in a time BEFORE cellphones, internet, fax, air travel etc. They are for the snail mail age.

This pissing and moaning after the votes have already been cast is a day late and a dollar short.

Seriously. Let's burn this bitch to the ground. They pull this stuff, I will know that Romney will govern far to the left with no thought given to conservatives. Which means, to me, burn baby burn.

Romney backs off or I vote national suicide.

Why bother? You’ve made it very clear that we can never agree. I don’t happen to see it your way. That saddens me. I miss the real FreeRepublic.

Thought I made that perfectly clear. I think you’re wrong. Why answer a question about something that I believe just isn’t true.

Don’t bother to try to convince me, either. What’s important to me is to get Zero and his sideshow OUT. Period. I just don’t believe your negatives concerning Romney. Save your breath. You’re going to need it when you elect Zero.
