The White House announced Tuesday that the administration has finalized fuel-efficiency standards requiring cars and light-duty trucks get 54.5 miles per gallon by 2025.
These fuel standards represent the single most important step weve ever taken to reduce our dependence on foreign oil, President Obama said in a statement. This historic agreement builds on the progress weve already made to save families money at the pump and cut our oil consumption. By the middle of the next decade our cars will get nearly 55 miles per gallon, almost double what they get today. Itll strengthen our nation's energy security, it's good for middle class families and it will help create an economy built to last.

They might as well require the development and manufacture of warp drives.

This guy is a loon.. the cars and trucks will have weigh to 50 pounds and be made out of styrofoam and tin foil to achieve that ‘standard’.

In the future Peoples Republic of Obamaland, the masses won't need nor be able to afford cars. The Inner Party members will be driving 1955 Buicks and Obama will have an armored beast that consumes most of the remaining oil production of Obamaland.

Even Obambi is not stupid enough to think vehicles will get that kind of fuel mileage in that time frame. He is using Communist tactics to imprison citizens in the cities where they can be totally controlled.

100,000 dollar death traps made of paper thin ... who knows WHAT, that no one can afford because they have no job, that takes 15 plus years to develope, plenty of time for the destruction of the only nation that promised and fulfilled every element for man's individual liberty and freedom for what?
Our 200 plus year history has been a waste of men and time if we allow this to happen.
Obama out now.

I doubt that the new “cars” would even slow up my F350.
And the only other important person in the universe, my wife, probably wouldn’t be bothered in her Explorer.
So, I guess this works for me.

This historic agreement builds on the progress weve already made to save families money at the pump and cut our oil consumption."Savings" offset by the extra cost of the vehicle....typical lib speaks that always involves robbing Peter to pay Paul; in this case Peter and Paul just happen to be the same person.
