WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Federal court ruled on Tuesday that a controversial Texas voter identification law discriminates against black and Hispanic voters, effectively killing the law before it could take effect for the November 6 presidential election.
The U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia issued the ruling. ..

Tenth Amendment: “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”
Yep, I couldn’t believe the weak pandering to the race baiters club.
This case is as if a Federal judge from California could rule on a State matter in Maine. What standing do those bringing the suit have in the District of Columbia? Aren't they required to go through the appeals process within the district containing Texas?
WTF?
Hola amigo...Jus keep paying those taxes...We need your money, health care, food stamps and welfare...Move it!
Since when does the US District of Washington DC have jurisdiction over Texas?
AZ has never been under the “Voting Rights” Act, which has huge “Republican” support too.
Pretty soon though if all these liberal states leave the Union, there won’t be any union left, because most states are now liberal or headed in that direction, particularly if unemployment rises further.
Thanks for that update.
Yeah, we hate this, but cutting through all the useless complaining, what is the next step? SCOTUS or something else? Legal eagles...help us out here.
Again - this ruling only affects redistricting, not the Voter ID law.
“AZ has never been under the ‘Voting Rights’ Act.....”
That was my point. Yet our Attorney General, Eric Holder, has sent observers to Arizona to monitor today’s primary election in that state. Not to protect the rights of blacks, but to make sure hispanics are not “discriminated” against at the polls.
Does Arizona require an ID to vote? Are illegals allowed to cast a vote?
Good riddance too
You’re right, it is time for war when 74% of the citizenship favor voter ID laws and the Marxist in the white hut uses Holder the hit man to attack the will of the people.
Texas, and any other state that insists on a valid photo I.D. at the voting booth, should simply pass legislation requiring the same proper identification in order for a person to purchase a Power Ball ticket. The so-called “inconvenience and impossibility” of minorities getting such I.D. would be vapor.
I have asked the Mod to delete the latter piece of the title. i.e., the earlier erroneously titled one on Yahoo.. Federal court blocks Texas voter ID law
So what just require ID to cast a vote, or set non-ID vote in a separate pile for post voting verification of validity of identity. No verification, no count vote.
Just try to buy a fishing license, beer, or cigarettes without ID, or cash a check.
You certainly cannot get food stamps without ID in Texas.
I think we should pass a law in Texas requiring everyone including blacks and Hispanics to also pick up a free Texas photo ID when they register to vote. Then it will be a non issue. Why not?
“because most states are now liberal or headed in that direction”
In 2010, patriots and conservatives completely took over 26 states.
If some conservatives weren’t so bloody myopic and only looking at Washington DC and took a gander at what’s happening around them, they might realize that they have a political base in the states to take on the criminal fascist syndicate occupying Washington.
The Founders left a blueprint to take on a tyrannical government. The key is to take over the states and local governments. We’re well on the way to doing so. The 2012 election will add to our numbers.
Texas AG Gregg Abbott has promised an appeal to the Supreme Court. He’s one heck of an AG. When Perry plays out, I hope he runs for Governor.
“One really has to wonder at what point Reconstruction will be finished - its only been 147 years since the end of the War of Northern Aggression ended, yet somehow a mere law passed by Congress and signed by a President allow for an entire region of the country to be treated as little better than a colony in terms of self-rule. I’d like someone to remind me why it is, exactly, that the entire South should remain part of the US? [By the way, I say that as someone who came to Texas from the Northeast less than 12 years ago, and whose ancestors were busy being oppressed by one or another Czar of all the Russias for a couple hundred years during the time we had slavery and about 40 years of Jim Crow here - IOW, I never had any dog in the North vs. South fight, but I am getting increasingly fed up with the conventional view of things as taught up North].”
What we have seen played out in the District of Corruption over the last few decades is the inevitable playing out of the outcome of the War of Northern Agression. Proponents of more and more concentration of power in DC will never consent to a restoration of state sovereignty laid out in the constitution.
“Again - this ruling only affects redistricting, not the Voter ID law.”
Does it matter? Washington courts have no jurisdiction.
