Akin has one of the best Conservative voting records in Congress!

Excellent news. I didn’t think this race was over. Obama and Clair McCaskill are toxic and the people in Missouri aren’t as stupid as the establishment GOP seem o think. Akin made one mistake which was even partially correct. (It is very probable that rape pregnacies are more likely to miscarry due to the high stress and tramatic experience of rape.) The good thing is that many are rallying to Akin to help win this race with or without Reince Priebus and company. Akin raised over 200k in the weekend after the uproar.

Someone on the WSJ board told me that Akins was referencing some fundamentalist minister who makes the claim that women’s bodies will reject the child of rape or incest.

It’s not partially correct, even if there is a higher rate of miscarriage.

Akin needs to put this issue behind him, refuse to discuss it with the media any more and then go on the attack reminding the voters Why his opponent MUST be defeated. Obamacare.

” Akin has one of the best Conservative voting records in Congress!”

Yes he does. Somebody should staple Rove’s lips shut.

Here’s his statement:

“It seems to be, first of all, from what I understand from doctors, it’s really rare. If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut the whole thing down.”

He may have been referring to the minister or not. He was right on the point he was trying to convey. Rape pregancies are rare in relation to non rape pregnancies and abotions that result from rape are also rare. Less than 1% of pregnacies. Incest related abortions are even more rare .5%. The mistake was in inferring that pregnacy would not result. However there is plenty of scientific evidence that there is indeed processes that “try to shut the whole thing down” related to high stress situations whether they be rape or emotional and physical abuse. Pretending otherwise is just as fundamentalist as any misguided preacher who is overstating his case.

I find it a bit strange that there is an absolute need not to be resonable on these issues especially in relationship to conservatives however the left can claim almost anything and receive a fraction of the grief. It is always in absolutes when convenient. I personally find it much more contraversial to suggest that rape increases fertility which several studies at left wing universities do suggest though the methodology is questionable but of course these “studies” are excepted without question by media.

I’m getting so sick and tired of seeing this fathead on Fox constantly I could puke.

He is, however, the face of the Republicrat Party and the symbol of the backroom deals that will never allow a conservative to again seek the White House!

I thought that the guy was a PHD, not a physician, but I could be wrong. He could be a physician that has moved into a ministry. I forget the guy’s name, so I can’t check it. The poster was calling the theory, magic rape protection, obviously trying to tie it to magic underwear.

I have to say that the actual statement doesn’t sound as bad as the press has made it out to be, but Akins is not a stupid guy (holds a degree from some engineering school in Boston), and it still comes off as kind of self-serving to quote something that he knows to be incorrect.

I had this traitorous SOB’s number 10 years ago. Too bad so many conservatives, and yes FReepers couldn’t see through this RINO puke.

philman, very succinct and on the mark. Glad to see there were those outside MO that understood what we are like.

is the + 3 Republican breakdown of those polled a good split? In the very pro-GOP 2010 cycle, wasn’t Missouri even between Republicans and Democrats?

Yes and the sampling breakdown was very near even in this poll. Likely voters were sampled as well. A very good sample, in my opinion. The +3 result is at the edge of the error range, so this is a dead heat. But I'll take a dead heat and run with it.

I still fear that Akin might say something else stupid, or that he’s the one guy the dim-witted McCaskill can out-debate.

You should watch his performance in the primary debates. This one, for instance.

The thing is that the Left may have outsmarted themselves with that garbabe poll. The thing I learned about swing voters is that they are mostly weak-kneed and conservative-leaning. That poll let them feel that it was OK to go ahead and back Akin again.

I am so sick of seeing posts here that suggest how stupid and what an idiot Todd Akin is. He is neither. He did not explain well what he was trying to say which was that by “illegitmate” rapes he meant those women who lied about getting pregnant through rape. Women do lie about being raped. Don’t you know how we got Roe v Wade in the first place? It was because Norma McCovey lied to a Judge saying she was raped. That was a lie. It took her many years to confess to this lie. However, she said the pro-abortion lawyers forced her to say she was brutally raped and got pregnant and that was why she wanted an abortion. And because of women like Norma all women needed to be able to get a legal abortion for being pregnant due to a rape. No matter that she lied about the rape in the first place. And there we have the evilness of the pro-abortion crowd. Just like all Rats they lie, lie, lie all the time about everything.

I have wondered why those that would scream for Conservatives to abandon their principles and support Romney, then turn around and refuse to abandon their principles and support Akin. Instead, they called for a complete abandonment of Akin.

What is the word when you say one thing yet do another?

I would not put much credence in a poll for an advocacy group even if I like the results.

More correctly.

He should have said “actual” rape rather than “legitimate” and the controversy would have been halved. And added “some research indicates that....” before the rest of the comment.

No firestorm.
