Obama turning people away from liberalism and to the right
BI ^ | 08/30/2012 | Eric Zeusse

Posted on 08/30/2012 8:11:17 PM PDT by GlockThe Vote

Under President Obama, there has been an unprecedentedly sharp, and first-ever, switch, to preferring the Republican Party, over the Democratic Party. In fact, the damage that has been done to the Democratic brand during the Obama Presidency, going from a historically normal Democratic ratio of 1.38 in 2008, down 39% to the present abysmal .83, exceeds the Republican fall-offs under each of George W. Bush’s terms, which declined from the Republican ratio of 1.41 in 2000, down 18% to 1.16 in 2004, and then down yet another 31% to the unprecedented low .80 in 2008, which virtually doomed the campaign of Presidential candidate John McCain, and made Obama’s win almost inevitable.

The Democratic brand has thus suffered even more (down 39%) under Obama than the Republican brand suffered under either one of George W. Bush’s terms (-16%, then -31%).

Though George W. Bush did major harm to the Republican brand, Barack Obama is out-doing him, hurting even steeper the Democratic brand, which historically (until now) has always been higher-valued than the Republican brand, not just in these pre-convention polls, but for decades in Party-allegiance.

Let’s hope President Mitt doesn’t turn the tide the other way. All politicians make promises they can’t keep, the sheeple believe them, and when unicorns that poop Skittles don’t arrive on their doorstep, they turn to the other side again and believe their promises. It may be a continuing see-saw unless people finally wise up and figure out that government can’t solve their problems nor make them wealthy.

Yes, I a am a pessimist.

NPR reported on this today — they never went anywhere close to the obvious conclusion that maybe some folks no longer like Democrats, and may have developed positive feelings toward Republicans. Nope. No way. The thought never entered their little minds. NPR simply focused on polling anomalies, and population shifts into areas where people didn't get asked the right questions, and people playing games with pollsters. They had a million reasons why this data meant absolutely nothing. Move along, citizen. Nothing to see here.

Obama had lots of help too. Pelosi and Reed furthered the collapse of the Democrat advantage.

This is the trend that Republicans should encourage. The Republican party can grow by convincing more liberals to become conservative, NOT by convincing more Democrats to become Republican. In the first instance, you’ve changed people’s thinking and appealed to them on a philosophical level, but in the latter, only a partisan level.

That is the fatal flaw of “big tent” Republicanism where you compromise principal to lure new people into your fold - at its core it’s an attempt to lure voters via partisanship rather than appeal to their desire to live free.

You really need to read the entire article. The author is a left-wing kook of the first order -- who is convinced that the country has given up on liberal democracy and is converting to right-wing fascism.

He conflates "small government" with a "dictatorship".

Zeusse is clearly a goofball. It's hilarious that his inchoate thoughts are being passed off as serious material.

It may be true that all politicians make promises they cannot keep but I wonder if Mitt might be an exception.

During the convention airing tonight, one of Mitt's cabinet members (when he was gov) said that the first mtg they had, Mitt wrote down all of the 25 different campaign promises he had made on a board (photo of this was shown) and dealt with each promise, one by one, during his term as govenor?

Damn impressive.

Think maybe this man actually means what he says-rather shocking concept in the political arena.

Are you aware of Romney's uber liberal 'accomplishments' while he was Governor of Massachusetts? I highly doubt that he was elected on the strength of promising the voters $50 abortions on demand, an assault weapons ban, mandated gay 'marriage', a worsened economy, higher unemployment, and a totalitarian, state-run health care system.

If he has any intention on pushing for the same goals as president of the US, then I hope he fails.

What we are meant to take from this is that both parties inspire the same lack of confidence after a few years in power, although Obama has perfected the art.

We are heading away from democracy, into the far-right: fascism.

Why is that? The author is keen to oblige us with his answer:

... Starting with Ronald Reagan’s First Inaugural Address saying, “Government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem.” Of course, in a dictatorship, what Reagan said is true. But saying this in a democracy is condemning not dictatorship, but really democracy itself.

Who knew? Certainly not the founders who thought they were preserving democracy by limiting government. Little did they know they had it backwards.

Bush...6 years of totally nonstop, totally unhinged, vitriolic and vicious media attacks on a good man.
Obama...4 years of nonstop media propaganda and boosterism.

Yet Obama destroys the Dem brand almost as much as Bush (ie, the media) “damaged” the Rep brand...in half the time.

This is an amazing backstory and portends well for November.
