TAMPA, August 31, 2012, (LifeSiteNews.com) Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney delivered his acceptance speech at the GOP convention Thursday night, laying out his vision for a Romney presidency.
Mr. Chairman, delegates. I accept your nomination for president of the United States of America, Romney said. I do so with humility, deeply moved by the trust you have placed in me. It is a great honor. It is an even greater responsibility.
In a speech focusing mainly on the countrys economic quandary and his own life history, Romney inserted a reference to social issues, pledging to protect life and marriage if made president.
As president, I will protect the sanctity of life. I will honor the institution of marriage.”
In a reference to the HHS mandate, he said, “And I will guarantee Americas first liberty: the freedom of religion.
Romney also touted his wifes role as the mother of five boys, saying that even as he was working building his business, I knew that her job as a mom was harder than mine. And I knew without question, that her job as a mom was a lot more important than mine.
Earlier this year, a Democratic advisor provoked a media firestorm after criticizing Ann Romneys decision to be a stay-at-home. Hilary Rosen told CNNs Anderson Cooper that Mrs. Romney, has actually never worked a day in her life, echoing a similar charge Teresa Heinz Kerry made against Laura Bush in 2004.
Mrs. Romney rose to her own defense, tweeting, I made a choice to stay home and raise five boys. Believe me, it was hard work.
In last nights speech Romney also renewed his pledge to repeal and replace Obamas health care reform law, conventionally known as “ObamaCare,” a law that has been heavily criticized by pro-life leaders for funding abortion.
Certainly hope no one was taken in with his pro-life claims ~ he just doesn't care. He's tasted the blood of the innocent and it seems to suit him fine.
You know, voting for Romney is one thing. But this scary tendency of late to try and mythologize him is another.
Did you read any of the live thread from last night? Yes, he gave a good speech, though I thought Ryan’s was better. But Freepers were gasping and weeping, and fluttering about their “crush” on Romney. One said he was metrosexual but in a good way (WTH?). Another said he was the best communicator since Reagan, and if he wants to REPLACE Obamacare, that’s the way it has to be. But the topper came when someone said Mitt’s going to be our King David. That was all I could take. Over the top, much?
You are correct, CA.
King David
The Savior of the USA
Joseph Smith was right Romney will save the Constitution
Romney is fulfilling the prophesy
Well, with all the vomiting, I might lose weight.
You are right again - repeal and replace
You are correct again - I support life except for the following reasons
The near worship of Romney is horrendous.
And you know what, it is going to get worse, to bad they have been let lose on FR, where reasoned thoughtful coherent conservatives used to dwell.
Isn’t it amazing that people who claim conservationism are so easily able to abandoned it over fear.
Don’t misinterpret my words. Romney from the beginning has used the phrase “repeal and replace” in reference to Obamacare. And what’s more, I suspect you know that.
The comment I made was in reference to Romney’s words about Obamacare. But I think you know that too.
It’s out of control. Remember Clint Eastwood said these people are our employees. They’re not idols to be held up and fawned over. Do we want to behave like the stupid left with Obama?
I can only judge him based on his history and actions, campaign promises mean diddly.
The more I think over what he and Ryan have said during the convention, if they truly mean it and will govern that way, then they actually are the TEA party.
And IF that is true, Romney will be the "Reagan" for this generation and beyond, maybe even a better Reagan than Reagan was.
The first paragraph is an observation of how and who they are marketing to, the "silent majority" base of the party who rose up in 2010, not a statement that I believe them, and what the result would be if true.
The second is more of what the result would be if true, not that I believe them or am supporting them.
I'm a Palin fan and voted for McShame only because of Palin.
I'm also a Ryan fan and, for what it's worth, Romney is easier to vote for than McShame was...but that's not saying much. Who isn't?
I think the convention, especially with their "sanctity of life" and pro-family messages, will ease the fence sitters' resistance to them.
obama's done and Romney won't need my vote to make that happen. It'll be a landslide with or without me.
The danger is, with President Romney most of the republican faithful will go back to sleep and quit paying attention to what they're doing, most will even defend them, whereas with obama, most are scared spitless, are definitely paying attention, while preparing for obamageddon.
Reagan doesn’t fit into this at all.
Romney winning has nothing similar with Reagan, he will merely beat Obama.
Romney isn’t building anything, he is going to use a victory to continue deconstructing the right, and the conservatives that drove 2010 to victory in SPITE of the the Romney/Rove wing of the party, the party that Mitt now owns.
As president, I will protect the sanctity of life.
(EXCEPT TO PROTECT THE HEALTH OF THE MOTHER)
I will honor the institution of marriage
(AND OPEN THE INSTITUTION UP TO HOMOSEXUALS, BISEXUALS AND TRANSSEXUALS).
I don't judge a man by a speech written by aides and run through focus groups. I judge a man by his life and his actions.
Romney has been a pro-abortion, pro-homosexual agenda, gun grabbing socialist since he got into politics. One speech does not change the man delivering it. Romney is a liar. The speech was a pack of platitiudes and lies. Romney doesn't believe a word of it. Neither do I.
And for good reason. Reagan took over the mess Carter and the demonrats made and turned it around. He changed the trajectory of the nation for the better and his leadership made the world a safer place.
Should Romney do after obama what Reagan did after Carter and achieve a similar turnaround, then the comparison will be made and he will be this century republican's Reagan until a better one comes along.
If he turns out to be yet another big spending, big GovCo building, GOPe statist, then he'll be another Bush or worse and you'll be correct with your prediction.
Either way, it will be good to have obama and his crew gone. That's the easy prediction to make.
Stop this Reagan nonsense, Romney is the anti-Reagan, he despised Reagan and the conservatives, he still does.
Reagan was famous for conservatism and started earning that title in the 1940s, and is a conservative hero.
Sixty six year old Romney is famous for being the biggest lefty to ever get to where he is.
Romney is a draft dodging, pro-abortion, pro-homosexual agenda, anti-gun, socialized medicine nutcase cult leader, if you study his history, you will learn that he wants to dismantle conservatism, not assist it.
Romney left the GOP because of Reagan in 1979, he considers William Weld his mentor and the man who’s politics most match his. “”I think Bill Weld comes as close as anyone, Romney said when asked whom in his party he aligned with.””
Make your pro Romney arguments and quit using Reagan’s name doing it, that is a troll act.
The only pro Romney argument I have begins with IF"":
IF he governs like he's promised on the campaign trail, it will go very well for the country, and for him as a result.
Like everyone says, it's not what he says, it's what he actually does.
I believe we are going to find out starting in January, assuming the Mayans don't get us first.
>>You get a politician going and
Meet the New Boss, same as the Old Ba’al
—The Who?
It’s in their nature.
The more I think over what he (Romney) and Ryan have said during the convention, if they truly mean it and will govern that way, then they actually are the TEA party.
Romney said the Tea party people are like that ferret in the dishwasher." Theyre so frightened and angry, theyll even bite Bob Bennett, whos trying to get the country out of this mess. Time Magazine
Given how Romney and his team treated conservatives at the convention and how he trashed by lying and distortion of the conservative candidates running in the primary, how on earth can you now, beleive is will become a Tea Party conservative
Vote for him, just don't make him into something he is not. Romney is not a conservative now and he never has been.
The Mittbots, if not Mitt himself, claimed throughout the campaign that Romney had become pro-life. Of course he never was pro-life ~ the usual Mittbot defense in the matter was to point to MORMONS ~ apparently not realizing Mitt might be a bishop but he’s not a good Mormon at all. Try this board from the past ~ last March ~ it’s as up to date as anything on who is who and what the problems are; http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2858859/posts
So, let me ask you this (using Clarence Carter's style), why do you 'spose Karl thought that was a good opportunity to ask that question!
"I be (SMOKIN") ~ just to change that word a tad so no one is offended.
You probably feel the same way about Sarah Palin. She is the one who coined the term "repeal and replace."

I must need more coffee, because I am looking at the post I made and your question - just not seeing the connection.
Would you try again, and I’ll have some more Joe.
