Obama's Dreams (Thomas Sowell)
Creators Syndicate ^ | September 4, 2012 | Thomas Sowell

Posted on 08/31/2012 4:11:52 PM PDT by jazusamo

After reading Barack Obama's book "Dreams from My Father," it became painfully clear that he has not been searching for the truth, because he assumed from an early age that he had already found the truth — and now it was just a question of filling in the details and deciding how to change things.

Obama did not simply happen to encounter a lot of people on the far left fringe during his life. As he spells out in his book, he actively sought out such people. There is no hint of the slightest curiosity on his part about other visions of the world that might be weighed against the vision he had seized upon.

As Professor Richard Epstein of the University of Chicago Law School has pointed out, Obama made no effort to take part in the marketplace of ideas with other faculty members when he was teaching a law course there. What would be the point, if he already knew the truth and knew that they were wrong?

This would be a remarkable position to take, even for a learned scholar who had already spent decades canvassing a vast amount of information and views on many subjects. But Obama was already doctrinaire at a very early age — and ill-informed or misinformed on both history and economics.

His statement in "Dreams from My Father" about how white men went to Africa to "drag away the conquered in chains" betrays his ignorance of African history.

The era of the Atlantic slave trade and the era of European conquests across the continent of Africa were different eras. During the era of the Atlantic slave trade, most of Africa was ruled by Africans, who sold some of their slaves to white men.

All of this just means obozo is a typical liberal. Uninformed, blind to other ideas, self-important... the usual.

What is tragic is America put him in a position where he could harm us. And he has done so.

The estimable Dr. Sowell has made a rare mistake, assuming that Barrack Obama, and not Ayers, wrote "Dreams from my Father".

Everything makes a lot more sense when you realize that Obama's entire life and mission were laid out before him like a red carpet by the red commies.

The money quote:
Barack Obama is one of those people who are often wrong but never in doubt. When he burst upon the national political scene as a presidential candidate in 2008, even some conservatives were impressed by his confidence.
But confident ignorance is one of the most dangerous qualities in a leader of a nation. If he has the rhetorical skills to inspire the same confidence in himself by others, then you have the ingredients for national disaster.

I have always considered Dr. Sowell to be more than just intelligent, more than just informed, more than just educated, but also, wise.
Unlike most of the pundits of today, he starts with uncommon observations and draws his own unique and far seeing conclusions that show a deep understanding of human nature and the political process.

” When Obama wrote that many people “had been enslaved only because of the color of their skin,” he was repeating a common piece of gross misinformation. For thousands of years, people enslaved other people of the same race as themselves, whether in Europe, Asia, Africa or the Western Hemisphere.

Europeans enslaved other Europeans for centuries before the first African was brought in bondage to the Western Hemisphere. The very word “slave” is derived from the name of a European people once widely held in bondage, the Slavs.”

Sorry, but Obama is STUPID.....stupid to the bone, and dangerous as all hell.

and that would be because his dreams are from Malcolm X, whose gospel he is preaching.

Informative, insightful piece as usual from TS.

I appreciate his touching on the world history of slavery and dispelling common myths held not only by Obama but many, many others.

I'm fond of Sowell's straightforward writing style. Sometimes political commentators are more involved with the aesthetics or snarkiness of their craft, than with articulating concise, salient arguments. And nobody hammers Obama quite like Sowell!

Clinton was (is) a gifted con man. Obama was (is) no less a creation of a crew of creative, albeit entirely evil, minds than any character in a CGI animated film. The empty chair is such a perfect metaphor it is really amazing no one thought of it before.

A great deal of leftist ideology simply comes down to jealousy of what others have. The old haves and have not theory. Nevertheless, Obama and the rest of the leftist cretins who make money off being leftist stooges (Michael Moore, etal) never stop to think that it would have been impossible for them to achieve the wealth they’ve accumulated in any of the Marxist Edens they admire so much.

Obama’s African Forebears Were Slave Traders

In the 18th century, Muslim slavers moved into the interior of Kenya for the purpose of exploiting blood rivalries between local tribes. Muslims encouraged warring tribes, Obama Jr’s Luo ancestors included, to capture “prisoners of war” and sell them into slavery.

Kenya tribe leaders, also exported slaves and ivory that had been exchanged by Africans from the interior for salt, cloth, beads, and metal goods. The slaves were then marched to the coast and shipped to Muslim Zanzibar (an island South of Kenya), to be traded again.

African slaves and ivory became hugely profitable and Zanzibar Muslims grew rich on the trade. Slave trading continued despite the public outrage in Europe demanding an end to all slave trade.

The British, eventually brought their forceful anti-slavery message directly to the Muslim Sultan.

Many people know that Democratic presidential candidate Obama Jr’s father was from Kenya and his mother from Kansas. But, (quoting a Mar.2, 2007 report in the Baltimore Sun), “an intriguing sliver of his [Obama Jr.] family history has received almost no attention until now: It appears that forebears of his white mother owned slaves, according to genealogical research and census records.

Obama’s Relatives Never Were Brought Here Into Slavery, Because Obama’s Muslim Family Were The Ones Rounding Up The African Slaves!!

“.......But confident ignorance is one of the most dangerous qualities in a leader of a nation.”

And costly as well I might add. Just think of this one. We live in the flight pattern’s of multiple airports, military installations, Air Force, and civilian, and have lived in this location for 25 years.

It is our observation today, and has been for quite awhile, and especially with the current lot in the WH with their majority influence that the Democrats are considerably more adept at wasting taxpayer dollars on self importance than are the Republicans.

First noticed during the Clinton years the quantity of government aircraft that fly in and out of the various military air bases around our location versus during the Bush I, or Bush II administrations is excessive to the point of being ridiculous.

With this crowd of Democrats in the leadership today we see more flights of government aircraft than at anytime during either of the Republican administrations.

During Republican Administrations we would rarely see a government plane. During Democrat Adminstrations we see them sometimes twice daily, and multiple times per week. It causes us to reflect upon the costs of the upkeep of Democrats, and their self importance.

Must be the self importance factor with the Democrat as Republicans don’t find it necessary to fly all over the country, the World for that matter to be seen, when they can achieve their goals from their offices with the massive amount of communications technology the taxpayers have afforded them to get their job done.

Something amiss with the average Democrat requiring the adulation, the awe of their subjects to bring contentment to their otherwise miserable lives I s’pose.

Thanks for the ping.
