Bill Maher Defends Eastwood: He 'Killed'
Breitbart ^ | SEPTEMBER 1, 2012 | John Nolte

Posted on 09/01/2012 2:58:01 PM PDT by RobinMasters

One of our many talented conservative video-geniuses really should put together a pro-Romney ad using the many terrific lines from Eastwood's RNC performance. The reason the Left is so angry at Eastwood is because America's last remaining icon brilliantly mocked Their Precious One and they can't stand that.

Though he doesn't agree with the man's politics, Maher looks at what Eastwood did strictly from the standpoint of performance and has to admire what he saw:

On his HBO show on Friday, Maher gave the actor “props” for pretending that President Obama was sitting in an empty chair next to him onstage.

“As a performer, as a stand-up comedian for 30 years who knows how hard it is to get laughs, excuse me, he went up there … without a net, on a tightrope. There was no teleprompter. He did a bit with just an empty chair and killed,” Maher said. “He committed to it, it was consistent and it worked.”

Oh, and Mr. Eastwood can probably kiss that Lifetime Achievement award from the Academy, goodbye.

“No idea why I’m not getting my hyperlink right. I’ll try again...”

When you want to link to a specific post (number) you can do it either of 2 ways.

The html way is to use the thread’s url and place at the end “?page=(the post number)#(the post number)”, like this:

URL: http://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2925515/posts

post #: ?page=17#17

So the whole thing then looks like this:

http://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2925515/posts?page=17#17

That’s the link back to your original post.

The second, much faster & easier method, is to navigate to the specific post, place your cursor on the number of that post and right click, then select “copy shortcut” in the pop-up menu.

Then you can paste it into your current post. To make sure it works, make sure it has a blank line both before and after the link.

Try it both ways and see which you like better.

“I confess; I’m one of them who didn’t understand the bit until explained later. Guess I’m not just that knowledgeable as a movie buff.”

My wife had to explain it to me, too. Don’t feel bad.

“For the next fifty years, at every convention season, they will reference Clint Eastwood’s speech. It was an original. It was a classic. And it struck a chord. Tell me the speeches about which this can be said. Bravo, Mr. Eastwood. You made my day.”

Amen!

I heard that when he ran for mayor and got elected he did it for one reason, city hall had been giving him all kinds of grief with something he wanted to do...ran for mayor and fired them all.....if true, I love it, wouldn’t we all love to be able to do that when dealing with city hall....

I saw it that night starting about 2 minutes in. I very much missed the context of what was going on by missing the beginning.

Watched the whole thing last night and it made much more sense.

This happened once to Sen. Inhofe. He was renovating a mansion. There was a horribly ugly fire escape that he wanted to move to another location to get it out of sight. It would have made no difference at all in terms of function but some bureaucrat turned him down. He said he had already hired the crew. The bureaucrat basically said tough crap and that he'd have to wait for a few months. Sen. Inhofe told him he was going to run for mayor and fire him. He ran for mayor, won, and then fired the guy.

That is exactly what I thought. Unfortunately, your referencing of “Hut” means you’re a racist.

It’s a remarkably bad statue. From another angle it looked like a caricature of Bill Walton the basketball player/commentator, but it doesn’t look from any angle like Obama. If it really is being washed away by rain it’s no great loss to anybody.
