..........The British have never been especially keen on enthusiasm, either in its modern sense, or in the older meaning of seized by religious fervour. Americans ideological descendants, in many ways, of those regicides differ from us perhaps more in this than in any other regard.
.....One after another, friends and colleagues of Mitt Romney lined up to tell us about the many acts of kindness which he had performed unremarked. Parents choked back their tears as they recalled the time he had spent with their dying children. Former employees spoke of his humility, his industriousness, his quiet charity. In a stroke of genius, one of his sons told us that, as boys, he and his brothers had always had to go to their mother for pocket money, their father being tightfisted which, given Americas present circumstances, strikes me as the best possible recommendation.
........The greatest pleasure I know, wrote Charles Lamb, is to do a good action by stealth and have it found out by accident. A lot of us have just learned, almost by accident, about several of Mitt Romneys good actions. We are building up an image of the man which is rather more appealing than we had expected: workaholic, uxorious, quiet, prayerful, more than a little dull, but fundamentally decent. What a relief after the soaring but (in both senses) vain rhetoric of the past four years.
Modest, calm and obsessively private, Mitt Romney seems more British than American. He is obviously fond of this country, making it the first place he visited on his tour as a candidate..........
We have had four years of a president who scarcely troubles to hide his disdain for Britain. What a pleasure it would be.....

-——When you become a conservative,-——
When were you designated God and judge of conservatism? Who gave you the power to judge? Newbie
You have degenerated into a bad joke
You obviously didn't follow up on the latest "revelation" - from 31 Aug:
This past week, erroneous news reports surfaced making it appear Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney supports the pro-abortion health exception that pro-life groups understand allows for virtually unlimited abortions. The reports came after a CBS News interview during which Romney misspoke and added the word health to his position on abortion when talking about the very rare exceptions to his pro-life view opposing 99 percent of the abortions done in the United States on an annual basis. Although Romney had made his position on abortion clear throughout the campaign opposing abortions except in cases of rape or incest and contrasting that with President Barack Obamas position supporting 100% of all abortions throughout pregnancy for any reason some pro-life voters wrongly assumed Romney had changed his position. However, Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the Susan B. Anthony List, tells conservative radio talk show host Bryan Fischer that she confirmed with the Romney campaign that the candidate did not meant to say health and that his pro-life views remain the same. If that were his position, he would never have received our endorsement, thats for sure, Dannenfelser told the American Family Radio host. I have heard clarification from his spokesperson, restating what his position really is, which is rape, incest, life of the mother. That is his position. Those are his exceptions.
Not perfect, but not what you imply. It's the same with homos in the Scouts - he said he supports the Scouts' right to oppose and keep homos out even though he did have the opinion that homos should be able to be part of the Scouts - a far different cry than the leftists who would have homos running the show. There IS a DIFFERENCE between having an opinion and wishing to enforce it on the People. If you can't be honest, join the Left where you will fit right in; especially if your wish comes true and Romney goes down in flames and Obama gets another 4 to continue his atrocities on us.
Good comment about the Supreme Court. I’m sending this to you because I don’t want to waste the next several hours of the day arguing with ansel12.
I wonder... is he/she suggesting that he or she would rather have Obama appoint the next 2-3 Supreme Court justices than Romney?
Yeah, that’s the ticket. This person would have to deal with Romney for 4-8 years, but with Obama’s appointees to the Court for probably decades. Yep, that sure seems like a winning strategy to me. /s
BTW, I’ve noticed that in the last few months it seems that FR has degenerated into sometimes very heated discussions between people I would call religious/social conservatives and those I would call political/economic conservatives. I am I guess (although I don’t like all these boxes we get put into) something of a conservative libertarian, so I usually just sit and watch.
But if these two sides don’t get there act together, we’ll all lose.
I’m reminded of two comments made by Americans :
“We had better hang together or we most assuredly will all hang separately” (Franklin)
“Never let the perfect be the enemy of the good”
(Reagan)
There is a lot of bickering, and i don’t know why some folks would rather have obummer instead of Romney.
I really heard it form on one of my post, and someone said it best, Well Bless Your Heart.
Here’s what I posted, i think you’ll like it.
His full Name is: Willard Mitt Romney
He was Born: March 12, 1947 and is 65 years old.
His Father: George W. Romney, former Governor of the State of Michigan
He was raised in Bloomfield Hills , Michigan
He is Married to Ann Romney since 1969; they five children.
Education:
B.A. from Brigham Young University,
J.D. and M.B.A. from Harvard University
Religion:
Mormon - The Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day Saints
Working Background:
After high school, he spent 30 months in France as a Mormon missionary.
After going to both Harvard Business School and Harvard Law School simultaneously, he passed the Michigan bar exam, but never worked as an attorney.
In 1984, he co-founded Bain Capital a private equity investment firm, one of the largest such firms in the United States .
In 1994, he ran for Senator of Massachusetts and lost to Ted Kennedy.
He was President and CEO of the 2002 Winter Olympic Games.
In 2002, he was elected Governor of the State of Massachusetts where he eliminated a 1.5 billion deficit.
Some Interesting Facts about Romney:
Bain Capital, starting with one small office supply store in Massachusetts, turned it into Staples; now over 2,000 stores employing 90,000 people.
Bain Capital also worked to perform the same kinds of business miracles again and again, with companies like Domino’s, Sealy, Brookstone, Weather Channel, Burger King, Warner Music Group, Dollarama, Home Depot Supply, and many others.
He was an unpaid volunteer campaign worker for his dad’s gubernatorial campaign 1 year.
He was an unpaid intern in his dad’s governor’s office for eight years.
He was an unpaid bishop and state president of his church for ten years.
He was an unpaid President of the Salt Lake Olympic Committee for three years.
He took no salary and was the unpaid Governor of Massachusetts for four years.
He gave his entire inheritance from his father to charity.
Mitt Romney is one of the wealthiest self-made men in our country but has given more back to its citizens in terms of money, service and time than most men.
And in 2011 Mitt Romney gave over $4 million to charity, almost 19% of his income.... Just for comparison purposes, Obama gave 1% and Joe Biden gave $300 or .0013%.
Mitt Romney is Trustworthy:
He will show us his birth certificate
He will show us his high school and college transcripts.
He will show us his social security card.
He will show us his law degree.
He will show us his draft notice.
He will show us his medical records.
He will show us his income tax records.
He will show us he has nothing to hide.
Mitt Romney’s background, experience and trustworthiness show him to be a great leader and an excellent citizen for President of the United States.
You may think that Romney may not be the best representative the Republicans could have selected. At least I know what religion he is, and that he won’t desecrate the flag, bow down to foreign powers, or practice fiscal irresponsibility. I know he has the ability to turn this financial debacle that the current regime has gotten us into. We won’t like all the things necessary to recover from this debt, but someone with Romney’s background can do it. But, on the minus side, He never was a “Community Organizer”, never took drugs or smoked pot, never got drunk, did not associate with communists or terrorists, nor did he attend a church whose pastor called for God to damn the US.
You should know the difference between the men running for America’s top office.
Does Obama/Biden deserve 4 more years?
“there” is “their” (too early in the morning.)
Actually, I’m much more worried about Muslims than I am about Mormons.
Isn’t that the truth!!!! Lets get the radical muslim out of the house!
“Your buddy Obama is a saint, though!”
The greatest pleasure I know, wrote Charles Lamb, is to do a good action by stealth and have it found out by accident.
I have never heard of any act of kindness, random or otherwise, from Barack Hussein Obama. I’m sure his media plants have searched and scoured his past and have obviously come up empty.
He won’t help his brother George, and he disowned his brother Mark ( who is Jewish through his mother’s side), because he took the entrepreneurial route and wouldn’t stay in Kenya to do social work.
Mark Obama just wrote a book and teaches piano to orphans in China. And I just found out Mark went to my alma mater, Emory University. Crazy crazy small world.
Bravo!
No need to go gettin' jealous, or to get your ham hocks stuck in the BBQ drippings there, ansel12.
Seems that the delegates at your 3rd party convention were able to pick your nominee on the first ballot, too.
Why are you reluctant to tell us who you supported?
Why are you reluctant to tell us who you supported?
Well stated.
Quite frankly, the more the fiscal problems, not only of our country but around the world, but most esp. in the west have become clear to me the more I think Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan are particularly good choices in this election.
I’m sorry to say this, but I think right now MONEY is the most important thing. And it is clear that Romney both knows his way around money and also appreciates what money can’t do and where its power ends.
I’ve been saying since the day Obama got sworn in that I would vote for whatever Republican ran against him. He’s been a bigger disaster that I ever thought he would be both at home and abroad.
Let’s face it, either Romney or Obama is going to win in November and we better do what we can to ensure it’s not Obama. Because we ain’t seen nothing yet in terms of the destruction this man is intent on for our country and the rest of the Christian west. And I don’t think he was born anywhere but Hawaii, but it is plain to see that his true heart’s sympathies lie elsewhere.
That can't stand up to Mittens's promotion to god of Kolob when he dies. The LDS have got Barky in a corner!
You sure Barky didn't disown Mark for having the Jew Stain? Looked at another way, perhaps Obama did Mark that looked-for humane gesture by disowning him, rather than answering the dawa, "O Muslim! There is a Jew hiding behind me -- come and kill him!"
An "economic conservative" is just a liberal who knows how to count.
Ditch the social conservatives, and nothing is left of conservatism. Theodore White, no friend of the movement but a haughty enemy, once observed that Barry Goldwater united the "economic" and social conservatives -- that both the libertarian and social conservatives look back to him. Ronald Reagan was aligned with Barry, atop the bifurcation which liberals and their ilk have labored mightily to exaggerate with their clever initiatives, to split the conservative movement politically -- and largely succeeded, because of the fecklessness of so-called Atlantic Coast-schooled "conservatives" who are less conservative than they are too rich to care about anything but their bank balances.
My cuzzin from Cain tucky! Better stay off HIS lawn.
Mitt also has more waffles than Eggo. He’ll be most anybody’s huckleberry.
I still say better a malleable person than one who is doctrinaire Marxist. But there is no need to puff-piece Mitt.
I think he’ll leave Kolob still waiting for its inhabitant.
———You want to rub it in that you people won?-——
Playing the race card are you? You have sunk to a new low
