Excluded From Inclusion (NY Times questions the absence of gay speakers at the GOP Convention)
New York Times ^ | 09/02/2012 | Frank Bruni

Posted on 09/02/2012 5:20:27 PM PDT by SeekAndFind

WHAT the Republicans painstakingly constructed here was meant to look like the biggest of tents. And still they couldn’t spare so much as a sleeping bag’s worth of space for the likes of me.

Women were welcomed. During the prime evening television hours, the convention stage was festooned with them, and when they weren’t at the microphone, they were front and center in men’s remarks. Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney both gushed about their moms in tributes as tactical as they were teary.

Latinos were plentiful and flexed their Spanish — “En América, todo es posible,” said Susana Martinez, the New Mexico governor — despite an “English First” plank in the party’s regressive platform.

And while one preconvention poll suggested that roughly zero percent of African-Americans support Romney, Republicans found several prominent black leaders to testify for him. Condoleezza Rice, the former secretary of state, delivered what will surely be remembered as the convention’s most stirring and substantive remarks, purged of catcalls and devoid of slickly rendered fibs.

But you certainly didn’t see anyone openly gay on the stage in Tampa. More to the point, you didn’t hear mention of gays and lesbians. Scratch that: Mike Huckabee, who has completed a ratings-minded transformation from genial pol to dyspeptic pundit, made a derisive reference to President Obama’s support for same-sex marriage. We were thus allowed a fleeting moment inside the tent, only to be flogged and sent back out into the cold.

At Columbia he also won a Pulitzer Traveling Fellowship.

From 1990 to 1995 he worked for the Detroit Free Press in an assortment of positions including covering the Persian Gulf War. He was promoted to the Rome bureau chief (July 2002–March 2004) and worked as a reporter in the Washington, D.C., bureau (December 1998–May 2002). Didn’t read the article. Did the NYT happen to explain how they knew there were no gay speakers at the RNC convention?

The idiot thinks the GOP should go out of its way to offend its own base? Does he think the Democrats should do that too?

Why should the GOP go and look for someone, not because they have something to say, not because they add to the debate, not because they will energize the voting base but just because they are mentally ill with a sexual dysfunction.

Dan Rutherford is Illinois Sec of State and he was the king pin for the Illinois Romney Team. He is as gay as they come.

Gays accounted for.

Fat Little Frankie has his claws unsheathed because the skirts took over the Republican Convention. Just proves what I always say: gay activists truly hate women.

Frank Bruni would be better suited going back to being the chief restaurant critic for the NY Slimes and write about cream puffs in that capacity.

I didn’t see any self admitted alchoholics or drug addicts up on stage either. What makes queers think their so damn important that they need to be showcased at a political convention?

I’d bet that we won’t see any Bible-believing Christians speaking at the ‘rat convention either. This is just their sneaky way of trying to undermine the conservative foundation of the party, just as they’ve done with every other institution they’ve infiltrated like termites.

They can always tout the presence of Cardinal Dolan at the convention.

As far as I can tell NO ONE in Tampa was identified by what they do in bed with another adult. Even Clint Eastwood didn't tell us his preferences... That works for me... I don't need to know who's into '50 Shades of Gray', backseat sex in drive-ins, etc.

Don't gay people have anything else to talk about? Gays are like vegetarians - all they want to talk about is their obsession. It's boring. Really. Soooooo boring. Get a hobby boys... Anything - well, anything except being vegetarian...

But you certainly didn’t see anyone openly gay on the stage in Tampa.

As I recall, you certainly didn't see any open "furries", Juggalos, goths, dwarf tossing or cosplay enthusiasts on the stage in Tampa, either.

So, your point is?

Wow, I am less opposed to gays than most freepers (but certainly NOT interested in any spats with anyone over that issue) and spent a few years in school for fashion design (which will explain previous comment), and subscribe to plenty of fashion rags, and i had no idea that there was a Men’s Vogue. Creepy.

There might BE “gays” there, but they don’t flame and flaunt it, so nobody either knows or cares.
