JW Marriott Thanks Romney for Bringing Attention to Mormonism

BOSTON — The head of the prominent Marriott hotel chain and fellow Mormon J.W. Marriott thanked Mitt Romney today during a Mormon church service for bringing “positive attention” to the religion, which is often considered to be shrouded in mystery.

“There has never been as much positive attention to the church, thanks to the wonderful campaign of Mitt Romney and his family,” Marriott said during a service at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Wolfeboro, N.H., the lakeside town where the Romney family has a home.

Marriott’s remarks come after a noticeable shift in the campaign to highlight Romney’s faith, a subject that has been rarely spoken about publicly by the candidate and his wife until last week, when both mentioned Mormonism in their speeches at the Republican National Convention. Additionally, several speakers arranged by the campaign to appear at the RNC highlighted the candidate’s strong ties to his faith.

Romney and Ann Romney, who sat six rows back in the church this morning, showed little reaction to Marriott’s testimony, according to a small group of reporters who accompanied the couple inside.

Wnen I used to go out on Elk hunts, I always just ignored the whistle pigs and the hoary marmits and other varmits scurrying around making their noise in the brush.

It was a lesson well learned.

God’s speed to you and yours my FRiend.

I pray for our kids and grandkids sake that we turn this thing around come November. Biggest political decision of our life times...and of several generations.

Scientology had a more cynical start. The LDS borrows from biblical ideas of morality, which are very helpful as an earthly civilizing influence. When was the last time you heard of a Mormon street gang?

The traditional bible message does tell how souls are saved and charges Christians with the responsibility to share the message with those who are ignorant of it.

As far as LDS, I think they seem to be outstanding as far as their voting habits generally. I believe they voted against Reid handily in NV against Angle.”

And as I said, you would be wrong.

YOU SAID: So I guess you know God.. Did God tell how people should be saved?? Did God appoint you as the savoir of souls??

I RESPONDED: yes, yes, no

THEN YOU SAY: Sorry you act like a self righteous a-hole.. Only God determines the fate of my soul not you.

I WILL RESPOND AGAIN, and expand the response:

Yes, I know God.

Yes, God told me (and everyone else) how to be Saved.

No, God did not appoint me the Savior of people’s souls, only Jesus that can Save.

I could be wrong. Everything I have seen seems to point to the LDS voting for Angle over Reid in Nevada by a high %. Is there exit polling for LDS in the 2008 NV senate race?

In, 2009, Harry Reid won “mormon of year” recognition (given by SLC lds), when Glen Beck talked about the award, he said the over all mormon support for Reid was 71%.

If you do a quick search, all indications are that Reid received approx. 64% of the mormon voting block in Nevada.

As a side note mormons are voting for Romney at approx. 94%, as a voting block. Romney won mormon of the year in 2008.

“If you do a quick search, all indications are that Reid received approx. 64% of the mormon voting block in Nevada.”

I googled “Harry Reid Morman vote 64%” and I didn’t see anything. I’m not sure the state keeps track of how religions vote by exit polling. What search term did you use, I am pretty bad at googling. Do you have a link?

The only thing I could find was how 70% LDS Lincoln county voted—Reid got 22% of the vote, Angle got 67%.

Freegards, I like your tag line.

I know why (as of this year) why they keep their databases & the basic nature of their faith. Do you think that this changes any non Mormon’s personal relationship with God in any way or their own accountability/ salvation? I’m just sayin’ because I don’t.

I was raised in the Church of Christ & my grandmother fervently believed that all Catholics were going straight to you-know where. My husband of nearly 26 years is Catholic. I have gone to mass- frequently, with him, but have never entertained conversion. Nor have I ever encouraged him to change his faith, either. I don’t hold the same view, though because some of the “best” (literally. Better people than me!) Christians I have known are Catholic.

Spirituality is the most personal aspect of who we are, imho. God Works miracles Every. Day. The best thing we can “do about” Mormons is pray that He Will Open their eyes. I guess I just don’t feel threatened by them. I am a *lot* more concerned about anything-goes liberalism that is destroying our society & literally cutting God out of our children’s’ lives away from home.

We are commanded by God to do much more:

Mat_28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

I will not be a party to the normalization of Mormonism for the sake of party politics.
