Komen really ought to pull itself out of PP until and unless PP can guarantee the funds will only go to mammograms and the like. I know about “freeing up money” of general donations for the abortion side of their business, but that would be a minimum acceptable beginning.

I don't think it would. Nobody would buy into that kind of weasel scheme. As you inferred, donation money is fungible.

Komen should, like the Boy Scouts did with the homos, tell the abortion enthusiasts to go play in the street. Komen should simply state that the organization has decided to focus on its nonpartisan, primary mission of battling breast cancer and will no longer associate with any organization that may be viewed as politically controversial. Period.

As it stands, Komen is now a Democrat organization. No wonder donations are down.

The Doctors do not know all the harm the Pill does, for it has known toxins in it and destroys the way the body naturally functions.

Pharmaceutical companies have way too much power in this government—even control over the research centers. it is a crime. Our girl’s health is being compromised as our water supply is being filled with female hormones.

Great society the liberals, who are so environmental “friendly”, are making. They are evil.

walk in San Francisco to raise money for breast cancer

To raise money to pay for the walks. Isn't that all they do - throw walk-parties?

I was shocked by the overwhelming response from cancer caring individuals that it’s an unacceptable position to actively support Life.

I get don’t get the emotional discount to the welfare of noobs. It makes no sense to me whatsoever.

I couldn’t read the entire article because of some technical glitch, but what makes them think the donations are down because of the initial backing out of donating to PP. Betcha donations are down because they reversed their decision. I won’t donate to SJK because of their support of PP.

Komen got the double edged sword. Once for defunding, and again for refunding. They should have stayed with the original intent of the charity, breast cancer. Cozy up to abortion and reap the penalty

It doesn’t matter what Komen funds were earmarked for. They were going to the general fund of PP and supporting abortion, period

These people are so blind

It is hard to believe that anyone could be so blind, but I read the article again and I believe it. The author of the article did not even consider the possibility that people had stopped donating to Komen BECAUSE of its continuing financial support for abortions.

Look at this ridiculous quote:

"When everything played out, my opinion is they realize they made a mistake," Reed said. "The women who pushed them into that decision left the organization. They apologized and gave back their funding (to Planned Parenthood). Let's move on. It's a great cause. You don't throw the baby out with the bath water."

Not quite the best adage to use here, because you do throw the baby out with the other medical waste, now don't you?

We're into "liberalism is a mental illness" territory.

I avoid any retail product “donating to breast cancer” because it might be Komen in disguise.

It was a worthwhile charity that turned into a money-hungry business.

I’m surprised they haven’t tried to patent pink.

I no longer give to any charity other than my church charities and St. Judes. Until this Koman revelation I did not realize that the charity I was donating to could just give it away for another cause.

I attribute this to Komen backing down and going back to funding a baby killing organization. Until someone presents some evidence why is my explanation not as good as the wishful explanation of the left?

I’m a breast cancer survivor as of April ‘12, *I* don’t give Komen a penny either!

I was going to walk in Tampa until I found out they support planned parenthood. I also stopped giving donations to other walkers and let them know why.

SGK for the Cure seems to me nothing but another marketing fundraising organization that, after expenses, doles out money to preferred activities, Planned Parenthood among them.

Albeit, the focus here is on breast cancer, the same sorts of cancer cure endeavors are actively pursued by other organizations.

Last year, the CEO was paid about a half a million with Komen's sister pulling in a cool $417K (a nice hefty salary for decades I guess).

It pulled in about $400 million in donations, 20% was spent on "research" [whatever that was] other funds were spent on awareness, screening...marketing, fundraising, salaries and foundation costs..... Between 2008 and 2010 it paid almost $2million in severance costs - for what? Why?

http://themoderatevoice.com/137410/komen-severance-bill-estimated-at-1-9-million-for-2008-2010/

Think about all this if you plan to give them any money

Right you are. A woman I know, who is a breast cancer surviver had been a big believer in the charity but stopped taking part a few years ago when she discovered just how the money was being spent. This is another case of the media distorting things to their advantage.

The paper would have us believe it is the abortionists who are mad at Komen, but why? Komen has bowed down to PP & is now a happy abortion supporter. It makes no sense to boycott a charity that has now fallen in line with Leftist theology. Komen’s pro-life leadership is gone, so “where's the beef”? The abortionists should be celebrating Komen's purge & reeducation.

Reading the comments by angry former donors, many cite the PP controversy, but none say (edited out?) whether they favor or oppose PP, so it is difficult to tell exactly why they are angry. The one clear abortionist (Reed) was participating in the walk, so he must have been satisfied with the outcome.

Looks to me like it is pro-life donors to Komen who realized their money was going to PP, so they stopped donating to Komen. There are plenty of openly pro-life charities that do NOT support PP. That is where the money went, I'm betting.

Fact is, Conservatives are far bigger charitable donors than Liberals, so if big bucks are not coming Komen’s way any more, I doubt it is the Joe Bidens of this country who are donating less to Komen.

Komen will continue to decline precisely because they now openly support PP. The American Left has now become so toxic that it destroys everything it influences.

And it doesn’t make any difference whether there is a Komen Foundation or not. Some of these charities are scams and just because Komen donations are down doesn’t mean that some other cancer foundation isn’t getting the money. Let’s see if Komen lays off staff or lowers their giving to compensate. Komen is not too big to fail.

An organization devoted to a cause will not exist when the “cause” goes away. This does not apply to the government, however.
