US rattles saber against Iran in attempt to stall Israeli strike

The US announced it will take further indirect action against Iran in an effort to delay a possible Israeli strike against the country. Washington’s plans to halt Iran’s embattled nuclear program include military exercises in the Persian Gulf.

In addition to increasing US naval activity in the region, Washington is also preparing to intensify economic sanctions against Iran’s oil industry, the New York Times reported.

The US – along with 25 other countries – will conduct extensive joint minesweeping exercises in the Persian Gulf in October. The move aims to increase pressure on Iran and prevent it from closing the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has also scheduled war games for this autumn, which are intended to dissuade the international community against an attack.

Washington is currently treading a fine line in the Israel-Iran dispute amid increasingly hawkish rhetoric from the Israeli government, which is pressing for an immediate strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities.

Not even close. Thanks Nachum. If Zero were to order anything of the kind, he'd immediately lose the support of the irreparably anti-Israel Occuturds and other radical Demwits.

I think Israel’s Leaders have decided that going before November will play into Obama’s re-election plans. Are the Brits mobilizing any major assets into the theatre?

Have the Brits got any major assets left?

They have 2 new Type 45 destroyers, but have already decommissioned most of the older Type 42 destroyers.

I saw HMS Manchester in Liverpool on it's last voyage about 2 years ago. HMS Liverpool followed it shortly after.

They eliminated all of the Harriers and carriers.

The total number of Royal Navy vessels has gone way down.

Russia has a port there. Maybe a deal was made.

In Israel’s other battles with its Muslim neighbors, they've never asked American permission to defend themselves or to attack. Bibi isn't stupid. He knows Obama is a closet Muslim and liar. Israel will attack no matter what Dear Leader does.

Nextrush:

I'll bet you are not sure what to expect, etc.

Personally I expect it would be a very good thing if Bibi Netanyahu took care of basic business whether Obozo (or Romney) like it or not and said loud, long and repeatedly to the US and to the world, including survivors in Iran. that Ahmanutjob's mouth has consequences especially in the context of his actions, that the threat to exterminate Israel could not have been reasonably allowed to become a radioactive reality, even if Ahmanutjob and the mullahocracy wanted to annihilate the Jews of the Middle East soooooo much that they could taste it and WHETHER Obozo and Her Satanic Majesty, our SOS, were determined to let it happen or simply playing with Israeli lives for domestic political purposes.

Teheran: Flat, black and glow in the dark! If the UN sobsisters, the diployakkers or the Russkies don't like it, tooooo bad! AND this time: No American boots on the ground. No rebuilding anything.

Humanitarian corollary: 24 hours notice from Bibi without details that Teheran be evacuated of women and children, old folks and cripples, then give them 48 hours total to accommodate mullah ineptitude and then render Teheran a radioactive memory.

They can have elections or not have them as they see fit. We don't care. See: Punic War, Third. No more Mr. Nice Roman. Give them a list of their cities and tell the survivors to pick three which will get similar treatment the next time they get out of line. No negotiations and no diployak of ANY sort. No Lobster Thermidor with Beluga Caviar washed down by gallons of Chateau Rothschild '29 during breaks (how would anyone recognize breaks compared to diployakker action?) in the diplo-snorefests at Club Med or Cancun either since such discussions will never take place. No years of haggling over square vs. round conference tables while livin' large at taxpayers' expense. No more taxpayer abuse as a way of cushy life. Just bomb them back to the technological stone age to go with the rest of their "thought" process and be done with them. No Kumbaya!

I expect that the election of Sarah Palin as POTUS would pave the way for a future new class of super carriers that would include vessels with names like the Sarah Palin, the Margaret Thatcher and the Michelle Bachmann and that those ships will be collectively known as: The Fighting Ladies. The Ronald Reagan will continue and be outfitted with the latest weaponry and defenses until replaced by another carrier named the Ronald Reagan and the John Stennis and the Carl Vinson ought be treated like the Ronald Reagan. The Eisenhower and the Gerald Ford can be re-commissioned under more appropriate names or mothballed when the time comes. Imagine the leftist rage!!!

Oh, and put the entire Iranian Navy in Davy Jones’ Locker as the immediate second order of business. Then, intensive satellite surveillance of the Straits of Hormuz and drone from the sky anyone engaged in suspicious activity. Show them why technology exists.

Its your fantasy but the reality is that we live in a more weakened world of feminized policy that backs away from tough military action.

And don’t forget the UN and international law. The United States backing of Israel will be needed to protect them there.

We don’t fight World War II’s anymore, that’s why our troops fight and die the way they do in Afghanistan, the 21st Century Vietnam with lower casualty rates.

Pakistan should get the “parking lot” treatment or at least have its top intelligence leaders taken out for supporting Bin Laden and the Taliban.

Any military action against Iran will be very surgical and limited but would have to include its military assets for air defense at least plus nuclear installations.

It is a nice fantasy, but we don’t have the fortitude to treat Iran like Hirohito’s Japan.

Things will get a lot worse before it will get better, IMHO.

Then we should STOP accepting a "reality...that we live in a more weakened world of feminized policy that backs away from tough military action" and return to a world of George S. Patton, Jr., Lewis "Chesty" Puller, and Curtis LeMay.

Our policies are not being "feminized" but rather tied down like Gulliver by what are anti-American influences at home and abroad. I fail to understand why it was respectable (as most certainly it was) to go all in to destroy Hitler and the Third Reich and Tojo's essentially fascist rule in Japan but that we should not touch the hair of any communist's head and should now genuflect before the Islamo-Fascist menace that is Ahmanutjob and the Mullahocracy in Iran.

I don't like feminism any more than anyone else here but Code Pink, however female it public face, is not about feminism but about anti-Americanism. Suppose that Hillary Clinton (Medusa herself) had a sudden and unexpected turn toward patriotism and that she got to make the military decisions. Would any Islamofascist dictator who got in her way have much life expectancy???

International Law???? This nation is a sovereign nation governed by the US Constitution. To the extent that any treaty says otherwise (including GATT, NAFTA and their evil progeny), abrogate the treaty unilaterally or otherwise as improvidently entered, approve no further treaties sapping our sovereignty, and inform the world once and for all that the State Department is not theirs any more and that we have gone our own way. Imagine an Audie Murphy type as Secretary of State. It's easy if you try.

As to the UN, keep the Security Council seats to veto any attempt to render the UN effective and any policy we alone deem detrimental to our policy or our interests, pay no "dues" to the UN and its subsidiaries, and let the UN know we are sovereign again whether the diployakkers like it or not. Rip the UN out of Manhattan and out of the USA as an affront to our people.

To the best of my knowledge, the Connally Reservation protects the USA from foreign busibodies on the "World Court." If it fails, in any way, to be a complete repudiation of the awful notion of the USA or ANY American citizen being subject to the jurisdiction of the "World Court" or any other pretentious pack of internationalist anti-American morons that presumes to judge the USA and her citizens. Ours was a Declaration of INDEPENDENCE and not one of "interdependence" or of craven surrender to our enemies. I don't want the US judged by Canada much less by Ahmanutjob and the red hot mullahs or the "former" soviets or the Red Chinese. We ought never haul them before globaloney courts. Our judgments can be rendered wordlessly by our military.

I agree on Pakistan but Teheran needs to be rendered a permanent monument to the stupidity of its arrogant leaders. I would prefer that Israel be the nation that does what needs doing. They cannot responsibly trust Obozo or Romney on matters military or on the survival of their nation and its people nor can they wait for the next manly POTUS to assume office in four or eight years.

The US suffers bi-partisan paralysis at the moment and for at least four more years, That’s why Bibi Netanyahu was born.
