Record-high Labor Day gasoline prices greet Democrats in Charlotte (Obama's Fault!)

Democrats arrived in Charlotte on Monday to an ill-timed reminder of one of the issues plaguing President Barack Obama’s reelection bid: high gasoline prices.

Prices at the pump reached a national average of $3.83 Monday, according to AAA, setting a record high for a Labor Day. The previous Labor Day record of $3.69 was set in 2008, at the height of the last presidential election fight.

Gas prices have increased by 23 cents in the past month during the height of the summer driving season. But AAA predicts that Obama, who has faced sustained attacks from Republicans over gas prices, will get a respite in the coming weeks once refineries that shut down as a result of Hurricane Isaac reopen.

But high prices will probably linger. “While prices should drop in September barring any major developments, we expect gasoline to remain at or near record highs through the end of 2012,” AAA spokesman Avery Ash said in a statement.

There is a lever here, if only the Republicans would seize upon its impact and use it as an example of how this policy of high fuel prices disproportionately affects every other single article of consumption.

Not only is the price of gasoline high, the Diesel fuel that powers the trucking industry is even higher, exceeding $4 almost everywhere already, and seems destined to rise to $5 per gallon or even higher in the near future.

And what hauls just about everything into your local retail stores? Trucks. Trucks that now have fuel costs of perhaps a dollar per mile, and that is paid for at only one place, at the checkout register.

How hot does the water have to be before the frog jumps out of the pot over the fire?

And today the national debt clock will hit 16 Trillion dollars...nice planning, Democrats. These people shouldn’t be trusted to plan a 3-yr.-old’s birthday party, much less be put in charge of the nation’s future.
