Those of us in Burbs that are bordering on Rural have a bit more backbone than that...
Some of the MUYs will have military training, but lots of other people do, and I don't suspect the coordination will be there on the part of the MUYs to pull too many of these off.... what with counter-response and advance preparation.

Yep, sadly, that will happen over and over.

EARTHWORM APPLESAUCE SURPRISE CAKE
Mix together the fllowing:
1/2 butter,
1 1/2 cups sugar,
3 eggs (well beaten)
2 cups of sifted flour,
1 tsp backng soda,
1 tsp cinnamon,
1/2 tsp each of salt, nutmeg, ground cloves;
1 1/2 cups applesauce,
1 cup of earthworms dried
1/2 cup cup chopped nuts.
Pour mixture into a greased baking pan and bake for 50 minutes at 350F. remove, cool and serve.
Governments would be formed at the street level.
First the block.
Second the subdivision or group of common streets.
Then the municipality which might not be at all like the old municipality.
Americans place high trust in others and it will play out to our benefit in times of stress.
I have been in two disasters and everyone cooperated with each other. Others came in from long distances to help. This is how it will happen, as it has happened before because that is part of our self definition of the nature of being “American”.

They have full cell coverage in Mogadishu in the middle of battles. And they have full coverage across Afghanistan.
The govt can shut down some exchanges, but it will be spotty at best.
After reading this I can’t help, but think of this quote which many of you know is one of my favorites in regards to preparedness:

Clearly there’s a storm coming, as great as a hurricane and like you do when a hurricane comes your way you either prepare to weather it or you become a victim of it.

For those of you who haven’t started already it’s time to prepare almost past time maybe. You needed to be stocking up on food guns, ammo, basic household supplies like soap, papergoods, cleaning supplies, good sturdy clothes including extra socks, underwear and extra shoes and boots, a extra couple changes of oil and filters for your car, tools, things you buy everyday start buying two and put one up.
As the LDS say “When the emergency is upon us the time for preparedness has past.”

I believe enough people will organize an underground bounty reward system that would reward vigilantes to travel to the areas known to harbor gangs.

Do you honestly think the government will be on the side of the honest, legal citizen? Look at what the government is doing with ROE in the military.
They would be too busy trying to get food and water to riot.
I just don’t think we have that level of threat from our welfare classes.
