Clout: Obama's Philly landmines

AT THE Democratic Party's national convention in Charlotte, N.C., this week, President Obama and the delegates who will nominate him need to find a positive tone in a heavily negative campaign season, while rebutting Republican nominee Mitt Romney's claims from his party's convention last week.

Here in Pennsylvania, and especially in Philadelphia, Obama has three festering issues that should concern his campaign.

* Labor unrest - Organized labor is still ticked off that the convention is being held in a very union-unfriendly city. Several unions are sitting this one out....

.....* Street money - Local Democrats rely on so-called street money from statewide and national candidates to pay for meals, transportation and other Election Day worker expenses.

Obama broke with tradition in 2008 and didn't pay up, despite a strong warning from then-Gov. Ed Rendell that street money was the "single most important thing you can do to get elected."

Obama chief strategist David Axelrod in April acknowledged that he expected another disagreement on the subject.

Obama's campaign four years ago carried a strong sense of history and hope. It's unlikely that the rough economic times that followed that victory will create a similar sense of enthusiasm.

....* Voter ID - Republicans who support the new legislation requiring state-approved identification to vote insist that they are trying to prevent fraud at the polling place (while admitting they have little evidence of fraud).

Democrats say this is part of a national effort to disenfranchise voters who support their party. The state Supreme Court will hear arguments on a challenge to the law next week. Win or lose, Democrats may find voter ID to be an unexpected political benefit....

I can name a number of major businesses who fled Pennsylvania for North Carolina for exactly this reason. U.S. Air (now merged with United) was just one of many.

Obama thinks PA is safely in his column, ticked off union or not, but that he might not win NC again. That’s why the convention is in Charlotte.

Typical liberal press from Philadelphia. There is evidence of voter fraud in PA, particularly in Philadelphia. It has been studied and reported, but of course the report was ignored. On the flip side, every Democrat in Philadelphia is openly proud of voter fraud, but honestly sees room for improvement since Chicago is better at fraud than Philadelphia.

Voter ID should be interesting, but it may not be effective as some would like. The RINO Corbett administration has reduced the requirements to obtained an ID. But Democrats still have to get off their lazy asses off the stoop and put their malt liquor down before being bused to get their IDs.

According to this you don’t need an ID to vote by absentee under the PA law, just the last 4 digits of your SSN. Seems like a loophole that could be exploited to me.

PA Voter ID law

Voters who expect to be absent from their home counties on November 6 because of their duties, occupation or business (including leaves of absence for teaching, vacations or sabbaticals) are eligible to vote by absentee ballot.

B. Are there special rules for voting by absentee ballot?

Unless a voter is in the military or living overseas and applying for an absentee ballot, the voter must prove his/her identity by providing one of the following on an application for an absentee ballot:

...

2. The last four digits of the voter’s Social Security number (if he/she doesn’t have a driver’s license)

Couldn't the governor suspend the open-container law? </helpful>

True. It is also very easy to get an ID. I think it is down to providing an electric bill or other proof of a business transaction, doesn't matter if the name on the bill is Jesus Rodriguez or not. BTW, PA's illegal population is pushing 500k+. That is significant when the total population is 12 million.

I refuse to sound politically correct when it comes to voter ID in PA. The people without IDs vote for Democrats. They do so to get free stuff from the government. They are so stupid that they don't know where the government gets the money for the free stuff. That is because the have never paid taxes and wondered where that money goes. I do not want them to vote, particularly when they are so lazy that they can't get off their asses to get a regular ID like the people who pay for their free stuff.

LOL! The Police union in Philadelphia ignores that now for their own safety. Drunk thugs don't shoot cops, just other thugs.
