Obama tells Americans: You are 'absolutely better off' than you were four years ago

A defiant President Barack Obama today told Americans that they are ‘absolutely better off’ than they were when he was sworn into office in January 2009.

The question ‘are you better off than you were four years ago’, famously posed by Ronald Reagan in 1980, has dogged the Obama campaign over the past week as aides have responded ‘no, but’ or dodged the issue entirely.

‘We are absolutely better off than we were when I was sworn in and we had 800,000 jobs beoinmg lost in a month,’ he said in an interview with NBC12 in Virginia.

The Romney campaign has been goading Obama on the issue, printing 'Are you better off?' signs and stickers and making it their main line of attack during the Democratic convention.

I hope that Obama is dumb enough to make the exact same statement during the debates. I can’t believe that Romney would not be able to hit this pitch out of the park.

Why the qualifier “aboslutely”, Barry?

I am or I am not better off, but using the word “absolutely” makes you sound like you are trying to convince me of something that isn’t true.

This reminds me of some of Ed Rendell’s better rants when he was our Governor. He seemed quite flummoxed over why white guys in rural parts of the state making $35-40K could not see how they’d be far, far better off under the Democrats’ Socialist program than the Conservative one.

Perhaps your eco friends and others who donated to elect you are, but not the American people. And certainly not those who live in states governed by Republican Governors, the American people from whom you withhold providing FEMA AID, such as Texas for fighting fires, and Louisiana, for hurricane relief.

Better taken care of are your DemocRat buddies....not the American People, to whom your position exists but to serve and don’t, but I digress.
