..............Following the sensationally damaging news coverage, PresidentObama ordered the reinstatement of both God and Israel's capital city to their tradtional places. This was not (contrary to what the BBC/Guardian axis would be bound to imply) simply to appease the "Jewish lobby"(on Jerusalem) or the Christian fundamentalist vote(on God). On the latter issue, there is a great deal of serious misunderstanding in Britain. The recognition of religion and its importance is not incidental to American political history and it has nothing to do with EvangelicalChristian pressure:it was a fundamental tenet of the Declaration ofIndependence that the basic human rights of "life,liberty and the pursuit of happiness" were God-given universal liberties which no ruler could be permitted to infringe. The American revolution was NOT like the French one in this respect. The anti-clerical French uprising was designed to remove the power and influence of the Church altogether from civic life in order to install a secular state.The orginal settlers in the American colonies were not fleeing from religion: they were fleeing from authoritarian countries which would not give them the right to practise their own religion in peace. The official motto of the UnitedStates government is "In God we trust", and every president takes the oath of office with his hand on the Bible.
So in removing the phrase "God-given" from their promise to help people "make the most of their potential", the Democrats were flying in the face of the founding fathers' explicit principle. Which, as it happens is the basis for the doctrine of American exceptionalism: its moral mission in the world being to deliver those God-given universal rights to all people. So, is that what this was about? Was the Democratic National Committee intending to make precisely the point that the US is now opting out of that role?.............

This shouldn’t be that big of a deal. I doubt if God was planning to be there anyway. After all, it is the ‘RAT convention/freak show and is packed with nothing but a bunch of God-hating, sick freaks.
If it were, I could see a skit where God comes knocking on the DNC door, asking would they please take Him OUT again if they don’t mind? And going on about how He’s against all the stuff in their platform:
God: “Well, you do believe in killing babies then?”
DNC: “Oh, yes”.
God: “Right, that won’t do. And you believe the climate is changing without My say-so?”

Pardon me, but there is absolutely nothing Democratic about the Democrat Convention.
Rush played sound bites today from the DNC voting on the motion to “allow” God back in their precious platform. The “no’s” clearly were louder than the “yes’s”; and the guy taking the vote had to call for the vote THREE times. The “no’s” clearly won; but evidently their messiah had decreed it had to be changed because his original move to remove it had been an EPIC FAIL!! Sheesh is all I can say. The vote was on the term “God given”, as in gifts and talents.

That weird dude on MSNBC, “Toure” (why does he go by one name only), said he was offended that Paul Ryan says our rights come from nature and God. Toure said that our rights come from laws such as the civil rights laws, because, according to Toure, these laws give us our rights.
And as a good liberal, Toure can’t say he just disagrees with Ryan, he had to say that he was “offended” by Paul Ryan. Apparently we’re supposed to be shocked and awed when a liberal indicates being offended by something.
