Locked and Loaded: Guess Which Industry Is Thriving While Everyone Else Teeters on the Edge of Failure

As consumer retail giants like Best Buy, which saw a 90% decline in net income in the second quarter of 2012, struggle for survival amid the worst economic crisis to hit the globe since the Great Depression of the 1930′s, there’s one industry that’s not only maintained its growth, but is showing record profits month after month.

This is no doubt a terrifying trend for those who’d prefer to “hug it out” with mass shooters or violent criminals in modern day domestic war zones like Chicago, Illinois. For the rest of us, however, it’s a no brainer considering the rising tide of crime, the potential for an economic collapse that drives society to chaos, and a political climate that would like nothing more than to see Americans be forced into defending themselves with sticks and stones.

A large number of Americans see what’s coming, and they’re taking their personal safety and protection into their own hands, as evidenced by the following chart showing gun manufacturer Smith and Wesson’s quarterly revenue growth:

When the final bubble does pop (and here we make the wild assumption that no intelligent extraterrestrial life will be found to bail out the central banks in time), at least everyone will be locked and loaded. (Via Zero Hedge)

Year over year Smith and Wesson has seen growth of 48% (a number that must have left Solyndra executives and the Obama administration bewildered), and they are showing no signs of a slow-down. Likewise, other gun manufacturers are seeing record growth – and backlogs – as Ruger recently had to suspend new firearms orders citing “overwhelming demand.”

As was previously noted, over 10 million guns were sold in the United States in 2011, and 2012 is is going to be even bigger – something that should scare the crap out of anyone who’d ever think to invade or enslave the free people of the United States.

Violent criminals out there should take note – law abiding Americans aren’t going to sit back and take this lying down anymore.

The more armed law-abiding citizens there are - who are getting at least a little range time - the safer I feel. Without range time, these weapons will only do a small amount of good. I expect my fellow Americans to thin out the hordes of zombies before most of them reach my neighborhood.

Just doing my part to stimulate the economy. Unfortunately, my insurance company refuses to cover my entire gun collection that was lost while ice fishing. Darn it!

The only industry that Obama can honestly claim to have “stimulated”. Four consecutive years of record growth across the industry.

Including domestic enemies, like Democrats.

More good news...

The record for a single year was set just last year, when the FBI reported that 14,409,616 background checks were requested. In 2011 that figure will top 16 million. FBI spokesman Steve Fischer said just 1.3% of background checks result in denial of a weapon.

____________________________________________________________

According to NICS Firearm background checks, every month in 2012 has beaten all time salesrecords and there are no signs of this stopping; especially as we approach the peak season of gunsales for the year.

I am as old geezer admittedly, but I have never seen the price of a gun decrease since I was a kid. In short, they are a good investment.

“Guess which industry is thriving”

If it were an industry, I thought the answer would be: “government.” http://blog.heritage.org/2011/02/22/federal-workforce-continues-to-grow-under-obama-budget/

” ... the private sector workforce has shrunk by 6.6% while shedding more than 7.5 million jobs. Over that same time period, the federal government workforce (excluding Census and Postal workers) has grown by 11.7% while adding 230,000 jobs.”

Now, President Obama’s FY 2012 budget (my note: What budget?) proposes adding even more people to the federal payroll. Specifically, the President wants to create an additional 15,000 federal government jobs including 4,182 additional Internal Revenue Service employees 1,054 of which will be needed to implement Obamacare alone.”

“The problem with all these additional government jobs is that government spending does not create the economic growth needed to sustain private sector job growth.”

Really now. As I understand it, most encounters with goblins involve participants within a very small amount of distance. One does not need "range time" to hit someone 5 to 10 feet away.

And you're out there shooting targets 20-30 yards away you're planning something that's going to put your a## in jail.

Statistics: Criminals hit with less than 10% of "aimed" shots with a pistol. Police hit with 23% of aimed pistol shots, when you only count shots at a person in a gunfight. Civilians defending their homes hit better than fifty percent of aimed shots (warning shots excluded, of course). Even at short range, practice and familiarity matter. Most of my pistol practice is at the maximum expected engagement range of 10 meters - my range time is for home defense, not for things that will cause unnecessary trouble. BTW, the aimed use of a shotgun hits around 80% or more of the time, and it incapacitates on the first shot in nearly 90% of hits. I know what I am training for in the 90% of my practice that is with a pistol, and it is not long range (although I do love rifle practice at long ranges).

You note that police hit only at around 23 percent accuracy in gun fights. Of course, there are so many variables here, so that percentage is questionable. They could be chasing someone down the street and firing (I’ve heard of that). Yet police are supposed to qualify every year with their firearms. If so, that practice doesn’t help a helluva lot, does it? Not that they shouldn’t practice; I’m not arguing that.

I also am certainly not arguing that it’s not a good idea for anyone to practice. I certainly do on my private range (I live in a very rural area) and I, too, use 10 yards as my measuring distance since I know that most gunfights occur within that distance.

I also keep a Remington 870 loaded with buckshot by my bed for serious protection. I don’t practice with it since I have to defend a space of 5 feet from the door to my end of my bed.

What I am trying to say is that it’s not obligatory for Harry and Harriet Homeowner to spend time—well, a little bit of time won’t hurt—out there on the gun range if their sole purpose of gun ownership is to defend themselves.

So, I guess we don’t disagree all that much.
