Reid Statement On August Jobs Report
United States Senate Democrats ^ | 9/7/2012 | Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid

Posted on 09/07/2012 5:59:58 PM PDT by mdittmar

Washington, D.C. –Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid released the following statement today on the August employment report:

“The unemployment rate is falling as we saw the thirtieth straight month of private sector job growth, with the economy adding nearly one hundred thousand new jobs. While our recovery is still moving too slowly for many Americans, job growth would likely have been even stronger if Republicans had not blocked Democratic efforts to hire more teachers, firefighters and police officers.

“At the end of the day, too many people in Nevada and across America are still struggling to get by. The best way to speed up our recovery is for Republicans to stop their knee-jerk obstruction of every effort Democrats put forward, and start working across the aisle to find common ground. Next week, the Senate will vote to give employers incentives to hire veterans, so our heroes are not left out in the cold when they return home. This is a common-sense jobs bill, and I hope Republicans will join Democrats in supporting it.

“The Republican leader said his single most important goal was defeating President Obama. To speed up our recovery, it’s time for Republicans to put politics aside, and join Democrats to make the middle class their top priority.”

"blocked Democratic efforts to hire more teachers, firefighters and police officers."

When will this asshole stop talking about LOCAL RESPONSIBILITIES, as opposed to the Nationalized Union FORCED funding from Taxpayers, to be funneled through UNION DUES right back to the DNC?

I am so tired of this Taxpayer-fleecing to buy Union votes and hire more Public Sector Unionistas, who produce NOTHING.

They continue to repeat the same bulls#it!!!

How many unemployed teachers, firefighters, and police officers do you know?

Anyone?

What he’s saying is, those bastards in the House stopped us from spending your money on more worthless handouts that would hire more public union employees.

If someone has the stats on unemployed teachers, police and firefighters, let’s have ‘em. Otherwise STFU. The real issue is unemployed machinists, engineers, construction workers, cooks, truck drivers — etc ad infinitum — PRIVATE sector employees who can’t get jobs because of Reid, Pelosi and Obama’s ruinous economic policies.

His lying soul must be blackened like soot. At least the media displayed a shred of dignity and reported this with a sober tone and gave a clear reason as to why it went down.

Bingo.

These are the same people who think having more people on food stamps is good for the economy.

"The unemployment rate is falling as we saw the thirtieth straight month of private sector job growth, with the economy adding nearly one hundred thousand new jobs"

Keep in mind, it takes over 150,000 net jobs per month to keep up with the population growth. From the BLS Employment Situation Summary:

"Total nonfarm payroll employment rose by 96,000 in August, and the unemployment rate edged down to 8.1 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Employment increased in food services and drinking places, in professional and technical services, and in health care.

[snip]

Both the civilian labor force (154.6 million) and the labor force participation rate (63.5 percent) declined in August.

[snip]

The change in total nonfarm payroll employment for June was revised from +64,000 to +45,000, and the change for July was revised from +163,000 to +141,000."

A detailed look at the jobs number shows + 119,000 jobs added in the service industry and losses of -23,000 in manufacturing and other areas. If the rest of the country is like it is locally, most of those service jobs were for college kids returning to school and taking the server or other jobs at restaurants. These are part-time and temporary (not long term permanent jobs or professions). You see the same spike at the beginning of summer when all the resorts, amusement parks, and other summer businesses hire high schoolers and college kids for the summer. Another spike is just before Christmas (now frequently referred to as Winter Holidays). When the Food Stamp President cited the statistic that his obomination had created 4.6 million jobs, he didn’t highlight that probably 2 million of those were these type of jobs and were counted four times. Additionally, these types of jobs do not qualify the job holder for unemployment benefits when they are terminated so they don’t show up as newly unemployed. When you look around, created real valuable permanent jobs and professional positions are few and far between.

Gee hary that actually sounds good. Too friggin bad it is not a true picture. Straight from the same report that you got your numbers is the following>
The unemployment rate edged down in August to 8.1 percent. Since the beginning of
this year, the rate has held in a narrow range of 8.1 to 8.3 percent. The number of
unemployed persons, at 12.5 million, was little changed in August. (See table A-1.)

So the unemployment RATE went down but the actual number of Americans unemployed stayed the same.

If only all the unemployed would get discouraged, drop out of the labor market, and go on welfare, the unemployment rate would be an unprecedented 0.0%!

At that point, Harry & Nancy could say, “great job, Barack!”
