Birthmarks, be damned: the FBI has officially started rolling out a state-of-the-art face recognition project that will assist in their effort to accumulate and archive information about each and every American at a cost of a billion dollars.

(snip)

New Scientist reports that a 2010 study found technology used by NGI to be accurate in picking out suspects from a pool of 1.6 million mug shots 92 percent of the time. The system was tested on a trial basis in the state of Michigan earlier this year, and has already been cleared for pilot runs in Washington, Florida and North Carolina. Now according to this week’s New Scientist report, the full rollout of the program has begun and the FBI expects its intelligence infrastructure to be in place across the United States by 2014.

In the immortal words of officer Gunther Toody in Car 54 (the original TV series):

“I used to have a beard before I started to work here and had to shave it off. So nobody knows what I really look like”.

They want all this because they can never be sure who will emerge as a threat to the system, and want to be able to create a compete dossier on anybody (including a complete list of associates) on zero notice.

I have noticed in my neck of the woods that those intersection cameras are occasionally being shot at.

My oh my, that is so terrible! What is the world coming to, next thing will be people wearing masks, hats and using umbrellas!

“a threat to the system”

The system of what? All this nonsense neither protects nor defends *anything*. It is totalitarian masturbation.

I used to think Bangladesh was tragically stupid, because with some of the best farmland in the world, all they grow is the worthless fiber jute. Their government was paid millions to only grow jute by other countries that knew if they grew anything else they would dominate agriculture throughout the region. They could have a standard of living as high as Switzerland, but they only grow jute.

Then their government wasted their money on a giant government, with per capita more bureaucrats than the US. Their largest government agency was the Department of Jute.

Both tragic and stupid beyond belief.

But the USG has convinced me that they are striving for a veritable Moon landing of tragic and stupid. Democrats who create multi-trillion dollar debts with nothing to show for it, and Republicans obsessed with creating the ultimate police state to supposedly protect us from 4th Century barbarians on the other side of the planet, by inflicting the police state on us, not them.

And the Republicans can’t stop the Democrats from doing what they do, and the Democrats won’t, or more likely don’t want to, stop the Republicans from doing what they do.

Leaving us, the American people, caught between a rock and a stupid place. Economic catastrophe, and a police state so rigid that it wants to implant chips into our bodies and tattoo our foreheads while our nation collapses around us.

Because of “a threat to the system”.

Guys... Forest and trees. Learn the difference. Don’t destroy America to save it, because that is FAIL.

“We are all Winston now.”

Frightening and true.

I think it’s time to turn this around. First we need to fight against any such installations. In the voting booth and in the courtroom.

Second, I think we need a citizen task force to watch the watchers. I think the top government officials who vote in favor of these systems should have a brigade of citizen volunteers documenting their every move. Where they go and when. Who they meet with. What they do. Every vehicle that comes and goes from their residence, the time, the date, a picture of the occupants.

Nothing like a taste of one’s own medicine.

Used to be that you could get on google maps or a local map website that let you see the views from TRAFFIC CAMERAS anywhere they were available.

TRY AND FIND ONE NOW.

I’ve noticed a hell of a lot of cameras going up along the roads and intersections lately.

Try and find a website that has access to these 'cameras'.... good luck.

The could, and when the computing power required becomes cheap enough to make it feasible, they will.

Well.... it's already in the KINECT for XBOX360.

It stores your facial profile, and it has access to the internet and can transmit your profile just about anywhere the government wants it to.

But we will still be allowed to vote without proof of ID...

I forgot to add: Hat tip to Drudgereport.com.

Drudge has covered this on and off since the mid 2000s. I think one of the articles about this mentioned they were working on this prior to 2005, and I remember Drudge talking about this quite a bit around that time. This was after parts of the Total Information crap that Poindexter wanted got canceled (but not all of it).

Good grief - where is this? Why weigh garbage?
Your town ‘allows’ a certain amount weekly -
or the dump overflows - ?
And also recycling is weighed?? ‘They’ expect a quota or what?
How about garbage disposals in the kitchen sink?
‘They’ monitoring the output?
So that less ‘real’ garbage is expected at the curb, or you’ll get fined?
(When our disposal broke years ago, we didn’t replace it. Don’t like them).

Is the amount of weighed garbage expected to be a projected amount from the grocery bags you are seen hauling in from the car???

Wait a minute - are you in Calif.??
Altho here in So. Calif. we say ‘trash.’
‘Garbage’ was said when we were back east.

(Remind me what ‘RFID’ is).

Don’t think I’ve ever used so many ??? marks in this amount of paragraphs. . . .

History repeats itself.

Just like the Jews in Nazi Germany staring at the boxcars loaded with our friends and relatives being packed of to the concentration camps. Simply staring, nothing else, while the state builds the network to control all who disagree with their political system.

We’ve become like cows standing in a field with those empty eyes with no brain behind them, watching as the cattle truck drives up to take them to slaughter.

We currently have the TSA conditioning our citizens to display papers and submit to searches prior to traveling by air, bus and train. They even accost free citizens AFTER passing through their check points by testing the drinks they buy AFTER passing the security search within the secured area. It’s all a matter of CONDITIONING the public to throw out their rights under the Constitution in the way of “search and seizure.”

Now, comes the surveillance system that will enhance their control you, your family and your friends.

This is right out of George Orwell’s classic 1984. Who would ever think we would live to actually see this happen? Not even Orwell believed it would actually happen.

In November 2012, I sincerely think that America will pass into the graveyard that contains the remains of other free societies that traded freedom for safety and “free stuff” from their governments. Never forget what killed the Roman empire.........”bread and circuses.” That’s all it took.

What would happen if we wore sunglasses?

The (civilian, non-classified) state of the art two years ago:

The IOM portal is unique because, unlike other iris detection systems, it is completely touch-less and non-invasive, and it doesn’t require people to stop and stare into a camera. In fact, it has a high throughput of 30 people per minute. It can get an accurate iris scan through prescription glasses, most sunglasses, and contact lenses. The scanner is used in conjunction with an iris enrollment system software that can store up to a million irises.
The demos I've seen of scanners working through sunglasses used regular, tinted lenses. I'm thinking that reflective, mirrored lenses might do a better job of confusing them.

Radio Frequency ID. An interrogateable chip with a unique ID.

I'm only aware that the recyclables were measured as they had some kind of on-line contest you could sign up for to win (something - don't remember what) if you increased your recyclables.

There are obviously all sorts of possibilities for "public servants" to increase their micromanagement of your life.
