President Barack Obama heads out of the national political conventions with a much clearer path to winning, top advisers to Mitt Romney privately concede.
The Romney campaign, while pleasantly surprised by Obamas lackluster prime-time performance, said the post-convention bounce they hoped for fell well short of expectations and privately lament that state-by-state polling numbers most glaringly in Ohio are working in the presidents favor.

Remember this is politico. This is little more than propagada to elicit the response you just gave.
So it’s actually worse than communism. A party congress in the USSR devoted to abortion, condoms and sodomy would have been unthinkable. This country is down the toilet no matter who wins.
Then I suggest that Mitt march his “top advisors” out there to deny this and then slap a lawsuit on Politico’s ass.
1) Obama had to move his speech from 70K venue to a 20K venue (And lets remember, the weather was great!)
2) Obama didn't bring up his two signature issues in his convention speech: ObamaCare & Stimulus! Hmm, wonder why?
3) Obama has blown through a good chunk of his war chest trying to hammer Romney with negative ads on Romneys association ith Bain, and the War on Women. Doesn't look like that worked out to well, now did it?
4) The jobs figures from last week are horrendous!
5) David Axelrod threatens Gallup with a law suite.
6) They also massage these polls to give them the results they desire.
Sorry, but if you guys want to sit here and wring your hands you go right ahead, but I'm not buying this B.S. for one moment. These polls and reality simply do not jive. I swear, the Left must laugh their A$$es off at us. We make their work so much easier.
What a bunch of Debbie Downers.
Washington post is running a story by woodwad that has Obama worrying more about his re-election than dealing with debt crisis last year
Not really. He needs Wisconsin and Virginia instead. Both states are winnable. 2008 aside, the Democrats have been winning Wisconsin by smaller and smaller margins recently - less than half a percentage point on 2004 and 2000. Ryan on the ticket could very well swing the state into Romney's column. Obama's win in Virginia was an aberration. If you look at the other toss-up states, Obama should take Michigan, New Hampshire, Nevada, Pennsylvania. Romney should take Florida, North Carolina, Colorado, and Iowa. That makes the electoral vote 250 for Romney and 247 for Obama. Add Wisconsin and Virginia to Romney and that brings it up to 273 and the win. Ohio is irrelevant.
No names, eh?
Sounds like agitprop.
Don't let the ass-kissers of Obamugabe demoralize you; that is their sole job between now and election day.
It’s post-convention. Not time to freak. Obama got only a modest bounce, and that’s because he is an orator. That will fade.
I cannot fathom that these guys went this risky and now are stuck with a hope and prayer. God help us. I have never been more down today. I need to give it a rest and watch some football.
You have just been propagandized.
Politico is an Obama cheerleader.
Their "sources" have quoted polls which aren't known to exist -- and are contrary to every reputable poll that has been published.
And you bought it...???
The first part of the article is exaggerated and ginned up, after that it makes sense but is run of the mill info. Seems to me Obama has a bounce which will fade. I think they got a worry wart to feed them some selective quotes.
Obviously the debates will be crucial.
My thoughts exactly! Of course it would not do to be over confident at this stage, but I think the Freepers who are comparing Mitt to McCain are making a big mistake. I agree that McCain did not really want to be POTUS. His attempt to control Sarah Palin is evidence of that very thing. He is very comfortable in his role of criticizing America from his safe Senate seat and all he really wanted was to have "his turn" at being the Republican nominee. He also had, comparatively speaking, very little money to spend in the last couple of months leading up to the election. You also have to remember that you cannot believe ANYTHING that the MSM says!
On the other hand, I think that Mitt VERY much wants to be POTUS and really believes that he will be better able to turn the economy around than Obama. He has MILLIONS of dollars to spend and the ads that will show the American people what a disaster the DNC was are probably not even ready yet! You can not believe the polls that are showing a big bump for Obama following the DNC because, according to the ratings, even fewer people watched the DNC than did the RNC. I do not think that the debates are going to help Obama and they will absolutely destroy Biden. Also, it does not matter what people tell a pollster, especially over the week-end. What matters is who cares enough to get themselves out of their easy chairs and go to the polls to vote for their candidate. Even though the people at the DNC were very enthusiastic about Obama, I really believe that for many Obama voters this is not the case and they will not go out of their way to vote. Those like me that believe this election is the last chance we have to save the American way of life will move heaven and earth to vote against one whose mission has always been to destroy it. Just my two cents.
I don’t need to get past the byline to question the validity of this article. Jim Vandehei?
The fact that some people believe Politico says more about them than it does Politico. And some have the onions to criticize Romney? Pfft!
Reading the article it sounds like everything is the same as it was a couple months ago.
Considering how little Romney has advertised in that period, and how much Obama has, that’s at least not bad.
Romney was marginally behind Zero going into the Republican convention, and came out a few points ahead, based on the Rasmussen tracking poll. He did indeed bounce.
So now, the day after Romney begins his advertising campaign, and at the peak of the 'rat's predictable post convention bonce, they're conceding the election??? Something does not smell right here. (The Romney campaign has snookered the Obama campaign with poll numbers before, so it's possible that's what is happening here. This is not McCain's 2008 campaign.)
7) 2010 wave changing election especially in the midwest that enables strong Republican governors and others to campaign with R&R
8) Election trend (2009 VA, Jersey, and Scott Brown, 2010 multiple locations, NC marriage amendment, WI recall, WV, AR, and KY Dim primaries, etc.) since 2008
Politico is the ENEMY of the GOP.
No one talks to them.
this is pure crap from a DNC front group
What’s most discouraging is the DNC by any objective analysis was a complete disaster. Unabashed aggressive liberalism was on display. Booing God and Israel and constant abortion. The democrats no longer feel the need to hide their leftism, unlike in past years. Yet the public isn’t revolted, they rally in no small number to the democrats. It says something very disturbing about America in 2012. It’s no longer Reagan’s America or even Clinton’s 1996 America.
Exactly. Politico. Leftist vermin engaged in an unholy tryst with MSDNC.(Employers of 21st century Benedict Arnold Steve Schmidt, bald headed Palin backstabber).
When they can name pub consultants rather than hiding behind anonymity, they might have some cred.
'Til then, consider anything coming from them RAT propaganda.
