This article offers a combined view of the results from 11 key states won by President Obama in 2008 and thought to be competitive in 2012. The states collectively hold 146 Electoral College votes and include Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin.
In the 11 swing states, Mitt Romney now attracts 46% of the vote, while President Obama earns 45%. Four percent (4%) prefer some other candidate, and five percent (5%) are undecided.
In 2008, Obama won these states by a combined margin of 53% to 46%, virtually identical to his national margin.
Due to the Democratic leanings of these states, a Romney lead in the 11 swing states would almost certainly result in victory for the GOP. However, Obama is likely to enjoy a bounce from his convention this week, and the results could shift significantly.

Obama won NC in 2008 by 15,000 votes. NC still has 30,000 dead people on the rolls.
The Chicago way is the real world that gave us JFK.
I am so confused about something. I have seen polls which show that Romney is up 12 with Independents, up at least 10 with white voters, shrinking the gap with women(even though Obama is still leading) and that more people identify themselves are Republican yet Romney is only up ONE point in swing states..how the heck does that make any sense?
Those awful Clinton ads where they ask for $10.00? I had to turn off my TV and opt for aDVD of the Fog because they were endless.
You are so right. It is much easier to get people to vote for you in addition to voting for you with their wallet.
The problem with Real Clear Politics polling is they give equal weight to all the pollster.
Rasmussen is more accurate and according to Rasmussen, its still a horserace.
See:
“Gallup (Saturday) 7-Day Tracking 3050 RV 2.0 49 45 Obama +4
CNN/Opinion Research 8/31 - 9/3 735 LV 3.5 48 48 Tie
Democracy Corps (D) 8/23 - 8/27 1000 LV 3.1 49 47 Obama +2
CBS News 8/22 - 8/26 1051 RV 3.0 46 45 Obama +1
ABC News/Wash Post 8/22 - 8/25 857 RV 4.0 46 47 Romney +1”
If I’m not mistaken, ALL of the above are in the bag for Obama and liberal news organs. THAT makes their polling suspect and Gallup PARTICULARLY so since Obama pressured them.
I have been seeing many Clinton for Obama ads on TV lately(Im in SoCal) Obama should have this state in the bag, but I must say its very strange to see so many Obama ads in a state that hasn’t gone Republican in a very long time. Its overrun with SEIU thugs and illegal aliens yet Obama still has to run ads here? Maybe they have some internal numbers that are not looking too good otherwise why waste money on a state you have won
True.
Again, the GOP really is out of its league in a down and dirty fight with the Dems. They just haven’t got it. If they screw this up, they are DEAD as a political party, or at least I certainly HOPE so.
Romney needs to use those PACs the same way he used them to screw all the conservatives running against him in the primary.
On the other hand, its still a neck and neck race REGARDLESS of that bogus article by Reuters on Drudge.
Hell I’ve been on the ledge so long now, I have a garden growing up there.
Don't look at the (public) polls. Look at where money is being spent and where money is being raised.
BO is spending money in CA (supposedly a safe state for him).
VP nominee Paul Ryan is in CA raising money.
What does that tell you?
These polls do one thing for sure,...It keeps us focused on getting off our collective arses to vote Obozo Off the Island in November.
The one I see the most is the one with Clinton saying the Kenyan has a plan for the middle class and needs four more years or something like that. I advance through them with my TIVO.
That's because they were looking for the Federal Government to take over the states dept so they could continue on their utopian way into oblivion...but that didn't happen this term...
However, in a second term, I'm not so sure Obozo would say no again.
Romney should be higher in the polls because of who HE is, as well.
Bummer.
I agree. But remember that the Won will use everything at his disposal to hold on to power with his last finger nail. So everyone, please consider giving an hour here and there to volunteer.
I have to admit that I felt like an evil person for scaring an 82 year lady today. But she had bought into the "Ryan is going to take away her medicare" argument. I painted a very clear picture of what will happen to her medical outlook post 2014 under an Obama 2nd term. I think I maybe won over one vote today.
The GOTV effort will be crucial and so far the Romney machine seems to maximize the effort of the volunteers.
I’m in So Cal too and was curious about all the Clinton/Obama ads. For some reason they think they need to shore up this state. Yes it would be weird to run ads here if it were locked up considering they’re complaining about lack of campaign funds. Either way, I’m glad they have to spend money here.
That’s it and at the end of it they ask for a donation of $10.00. Jokes on them no one has any money.
Moderates think the country is going in the wrong dirction but they’re going to vote Obama?
