At least God was merciful and didn’t send fire and brimstone over Charlotte last week. Sinner that I am, I wouldn’t have been able to resist.

Fire and brimstone alludes to the Bible (THE Bible).

The God of the Bible is without an argument a HE.

Don’t let he PC brainwashing take hold.

Hello Varon,

You wrote (speaking of God Almighty, the Father of the Lord Jesus Christ): "True but (S)HE didn't hold back on the BS............. "

That is sickening to see. What are you doing on this forum, planting evil seeds? God will not be mocked. Hope you change your path before it is too late.

Well said - the PC crowd feels the need to emasculate Men and make Women the equals of them in all things. God designed us differently and purposefully and expects Men to be the spiritual leaders of their households. My wife onece expressed this to a group of folks by telling them that, Biblically, the Man is the head of the household and that she deferred to me in all important issues (without going into the "yadda-yadda" explanation of how Men must also earn and deserve the position of leadership), and was met with a pregnant and uncomfortable silence. The women were mainly offended and the men were embarrassed...

Well, zippy, this is the way it is.

First, I'm on this forum because I see it as a current events and politically oriented meeting place, not a forum dedicated to religious teachings.

Second, since this forum is visited by people of many different religious views and depths of belief, I tried to be all inclusive and accommodate most participants, whether they believe God is a HE or SHE or gender neutral.

Third, the only path I'm concerned about is the one that keeps me on the right side of the Mods and JimRob.

Fourth and perhaps most importantly, if you will read it again in context, my comment was made in jest, expecting most FReepers to recognize the humor and description of the content of the Dem convention.

So, zippy, don't get your BVDs in a wad, loosen up a bit and allow a little bit of levity in your life.

Breezy Point is a wonderful, cohesive example of small town America in a unique seaside setting in the far corner of New York City. But in no way, shape, or form would I consider it a wealthy community. It has a large Irish-American population with a median income of less than $60,000. Many of the residents of the co-operative neighborhood on the west end of the isolated Rockaway peninsula are New York City cops and firemen.

There are streets that are not car friendly and bicycles are very popular mode of transportation. Often residents schlep shopping carts and wagons behind them.

The Republican-leaning community has hosted the Independence Day and Memorial Day parades for more than 50 years. And every summer the residents become host families and line the streets to welcome Wounded Warriors into their hearts, homes and lives. During the annual Adaptive Water Sports Festival, the warriors and their families are treated to sunset cruises, fishing trips, and other water sports.

The community lost 32 of its 5,000 residents in the 9/11 terrorist attacks, many members of the FDNY.

Rockaway is not Breezy Point. I once tried to go to Breezy Point, and was told that it was a resort and only paying members were allowed in, and was turned back by the security guards.

Rockaway, the name visible on the memorial plaque you show, is indeed a working class neighborhood of cops and firemen, famously the home of Mike Moran, whose brother was killed in the WTC, and who publicly challenged UBL to a showdown, telling him to “kiss my royal Irish a@#$. I live in Rockaway. This is my face, b@#$!” A week later, a plane crashed there, but I don’t think UBL had anything to do with it. I saw it burning as I rode into work that day. But that is not Breezy Point.

The area of Breezy Point is in the southernmost tip of the peninsula, and as is apparent in the video of the hurricane, it is a resort, and the workers caught in the tornado were preparing to leave for the off-season.

I used to live in East Lawrence and then in Bayswater sections of the Rockaway Peninsula. I know from whence I speak.

Rockaway is not part of Breezy Point but Breezy Point is part of Rockaway. You’d have to be a local to understand. Once living in 5-Towns or Far Rockaway just doesn’t cut it.

Actually, there is no southernmost tip of the peninsula. The peninsula runs from east to west . . . to the south is the Atlantic Ocean. The Breezy Point Cooperative owns 500-acres of land which is on the westernmost tip of the peninsula. I have friends, family, and co-workers who live in Breezy. Believe me, they are all working-class Joes. The residents, who own their homes and hold shares in the co-op, pay for maintenance and security . . . much like a hi-rise co-op. The residential streets are gated. If you were not visiting a resident you should have “kept left” at the sign . . . you would have had unfettered access to all the way to Gateway National Recreational Area and the Breezy Point jetty .

There are two seasonal ‘beach clubs’ in the area. They cater to DFD’s, mostly from Brooklyn. The Breezy Point Surf Club is where the tornado hit. Membership isn’t expensive: seasonal passes are $940 for a couple; a daily pass is $30. Bath cabins and cabanas can be rented from $400 to $4,500 for the season. The other is the Silver Gull Club, where The Flamingo Kid was filmed. Both are located on federal land. They are concessions operating within the National Park Service’s Gateway National Recreational Area. Read more about it here.

John Moran lived a block away from me and Mike married a daughter of my co-worker. Another local, George Johnson, is in that famous 9/11 photo of three firemen raising the flag at the pit. Flight 587 crashed across the street from my doctor’s office and up the block from my kids’ school. I’ve lived on the peninsula my entire life . . . 4th generation . . . I know from whence I speak.
