Tom Coburn: Cut the waste, duplication and ridiculous out of the Pentagon

Coburn: Sequestration doesn’t have to hurt if we just cut the waste, duplication and ridiculous out of the Pentagon.

CBS News ran this report tonight and I was literally stunned at some of the “ridiculous” Coburn has found in wasteful spending in the Pentagon:

Sequestration could be Pentagon pork killer

So we can cut out the social programs, eco-programs and say the Congressional airlift wing?

Well, at one point ~1980, Canada had something like 104 tanks, and 106 generals.

The first thing that should go is slush fund that pays for, among other things, the Edward M. Kennedy school of something or another.

John F'n Kerry tapped that for his buddy.

if there is an office of ‘diversity’ or anything like that, it has no military function.

Retire all desk jockey generals

The Democrats always take us to the cleaners because we agree with what they want, and then we try to “compromise” by giving them only half of what they want.

What I’m talking about is giving them what they *claim* they want... but in the details, I’m giving them a knife in the back. That’s why the DOD cuts should be structured to cause job losses in their districts. Come the next election, the GOP runs a candidate who can claim (with a straight face and appropriate histrionics) “Your liberal congressman wanted defense cuts... well, you got them. How are you liking those cuts?”

Another example: They want more gun control.

OK.

In the gun control bill, we take away Washington DC’s ability to write local gun control laws. DC gets full gun rights, shall-issue CCW and everything else that are in normal states. We point out that DC’s ideas on gun control aren’t working, so we’ll give them a template from other states with low rates of gun violence, which, BTW, are shall-issue states.

Predicted result: The Democrats go positively apeshit. The bill goes nowhere.

Example: They want a tax increase.

I give them a tax increase that is designed to fall on Democrats. Suddenly, they don’t want a tax increase quite so much.

The problem for most Republicans is that they don’t know jack about haggling.

The only type of compromise that the GOP seems to know is “give them half of what they want.” That’s why the GOP is the party of “socialism-lite.”

I look at “compromise” a wholly different way. You want something. I want something. If you want X and I want Y, you get X only if I get Y.

Now, the GOP has tried this in recent years, but gotten log-rolled because they don’t know how to give the Democrats what they *say* they want. The secret to successful compromise for us should be to give the Democrats a turd wrapped in gift paper, so they think they’re getting this wonderful present... until they take the time to open it up.

The GOP also doesn’t study the rules and legislative techniques in Congress enough. They need to do a much better job at controlling the process in Congress. If we take the Senate, the GOP could learn a lot from Harry Reid’s technique of the Friday Night Massacres.

Imagine how much money would have been saved if Nancy Pelosi, as House Speaker, had flown United Air Lines between D.C. and San Francisco instead of using a 767-sized Air Force transport at taxpayers expense.

I heard she and her family ran up a food bill on the plane of $400,000, and the taxpayers got stuck with the bill.

Corborn is right. Obama needs to be mindful of where cuts are made and inform Congress.

I want that d!ck war school guy who targeted the Tea Party in a civil war game cut! I’m tired of Americans being painted as the government’s war enemy in this administration! If we have riots, deal with riots. We have crime; deal with crime - under the constraints of the US constitution! The US government does not have any right to even dream about declaring war and turning their war machine on Americans.

Were you born stupid or have you worked at it all your life?

They talked about waste and fraud in the Pentagon, but what about all the other government departments and agencies? How about getting rid of welfare and EBT fraud?

Do you know anything at all about Tom Coburn? And why are we giving welfare and EBT cards to illegal aliens? They’re not even citizens. And on and on.

I checked with my state's website, at the caseworker interview you are required to provide proof of identity, proof of citizenship or immigration papers and must have a social security number.

Since you're lazing on your butt all day maybe you should report all these EBT and welfare fraud cases you know about.

States must establish and enforce standards and procedures to ensure against program fraud and abuse. States may prosecute individuals or deny them further assistance if they commit fraud or willfully misrepresent their circumstances. If you are aware of specific instances of potential fraud, you may also call the HHS Inspector General's Hotline toll-free at 1-800-447-8477

So... do you have anything to contribute or are you just going to run your mouth?
