No, Romney did not say he will keep parts of Obamacare
CainTV ^ | 9-0-12 | ROBERT LAURIE

Posted on 09/09/2012 12:54:46 PM PDT by GR_Jr.

Throughout his campaign, Mitt Romney has constantly voiced one rock-solid promise: the repeal and replacement of Obamacare. This morning on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Mitt Romney was pressed about his plans for healthcare. During his answer, he said "Well, I'm not getting rid of all of healthcare reform."

Voices from both ends of the spectrum have pounced on the line. The left (including most major media websites) claims he said he’ll keep parts of Obamacare intact. Meanwhile, the right is busy calling him a turncoat and sellout who’s dumped his plan to repeal the Affordable Care Act. In reality, they’re both wrong.

If you listen past the soundbite, you’ll hear Romney’s full intent.

“Of course, there are a number of things that I like in healthcare reform that I'm going to put in place," Romney said. "One is to make sure that those with pre-existing conditions can get coverage. Two is to assure that the marketplace allows for individuals to have policies that cover their family up to whatever age they might like."

From the very beginning of his candidacy, the word “replace” has been a regular fixture of Romney’s plans. Today was no different.

"I say we're going to replace Obamacare. And I'm replacing it with my own plan. And even in Massachusetts when I was governor, our plan there deals with pre-existing conditions and with young people."

Clearly, from day one, both pre-existing conditions and the ability to keep college-age children on family health plans have been “on the table.” You can certainly argue the merits of these decisions, but you can’t pretend they weren’t being considered. When Romney presents a new plan, they'll probably be included.

Along with these adjustments will likely come tort reform and laws allowing insurance companies to compete across state boundaries. That these measures might eventually become part of Romney’s future health care provisions in no way means he’s abandoned his pledge to repeal. In fact, it makes it pretty clear that's still the plan..

No one should be surprised that there will be some form of new health care legislation should Romney be elected. He’s made this clear for months. In fact, he’ll likely give the left some of what they’ve been asking for. However, there’s nothing in today’s comments that should give anyone the impression that he won’t repeal Obamacare.

We all know there is work to be done in the health care space. All Romney did was acknowledge that fact - something he’s done many times before.

It is not his words but the premise behind his philosophy, that big government is the answer to all problems, must be a concern for all those who call themselves conservative. Mitts word analysis is a fool`s game.

Standard dim response.

You don't have an answer, ANY answer, go for ad hominem. (Look it up... Don't read too fast, your lips will get tired.)

Try over at DU. They REALLY understand ad hominem attacks rather than presenting facts.

Romney is going to do exactly what his record as Governor says he will do.

How and why people here get so upset at media spin for Obama is the height of hypocrisy when they do it to steer a vote to Romney.

Not a damn thing is going to change even if Romney gets sworn into office in January. The Ruling Class wins.

We the People lose.

Again.

But we deceive ourselves into thinking because it’s our guy - tyranny is okay.

Thank you for this. The pant-wetters and the ABRs can clean themselves up now.

...and hopefully go take in a good movie to calm themselves down. I highly recommend "2016: 0bama's America"...

Geez, you really know how to advance an argument./sarc

I like so many others always warned of the "replace" portion of his arguments during the debates. Now those who supported him through that charade are now castigating those who point out your penchant for selective hearing just like those who voted for the Kenyan refused to acknowledge his "fundamental transformation" promise in 2008.

So GOPe and its supporters, bask in your glow if Romney is able to eek this one out because it will be the last major victory for the GOP unless the "e" can be eradicated. Conservatives will turn out to vote for Romney, at least for now, and unless he continues to march down this McCain path. The alternative is worse but instead of marching of the cliff at a supercar pace, we will get it at that of a Mustang GT. But, that is the end of the ride. Either the "e" is eradicated or a third party will make it beyond 15%, way beyond 15%.

Why is this not on breaking news or front page?

Does someone want this to drop below the radar?

direct quote.

Why don’t I just shoot myself dead now.

CORNHUSKER KICKBACK>
THESE PEOPLE MUST PAY A PRICE OTHERWISE THEY WILL DO OTHER
THINGS
AGAINST THE CONSENT OF THE GOVERNED

AS WELL ONE PARTY KILLED US THE MINORITY> WE HAD 40 VOTES

With all the hand wringing here, do we really know what the real issue is?

If Obama is Reelected, Obamacare will stay and it will grow using every little bit of deceit that was written into the Bill that we had to Pass to know what's in it.

If Romney is elected, some pieces will be addressed, but not with the same “as the Secretary of HHS dictates” that is repeated throughout the text of the Bill.

What does that mean? It means (1) getting rid of the “requirement” to purchase Health Insurance under penalty of Law, THE BIGGEST ISSUE WE HAVE WITH OBABACARE, (2) rescinding the numerous new Taxes associated with Obamacare, THE SECOND BIGGEST ISSUE WE HAVE WITH OABAMCARE, (3) Reversing the theft of over $700,000,000,000 from Medicare, and (4) having a Republican House and Senate oversee whatever Reforms that will be made to insure that an overhaul of Health care Policy is Market based.

That is what I take from this, others may disagree. Either way, if Obama gets another four years it will only get worse than we ever imagined.

Apparently, Perdogg didn't like my questions, and chose to respond in standard Democrat fashion. I'm puzzled... Was it something I asked?

Yes, he did say that there are certain provisions of the bill he likes and would keep. As for myself, I’d repeal it all — except for the provision that says the mandate may not be considered a tax.

This is the kind of liberal Establishment RINOism that loses elections.

Remember, during the primaries, Romney supporter Pam Bondi (who as Florida AG led the lawsuit against the unconstitutional Obamacare bill) said that they intended to repeal Obamacare and help establish Romneycare in every state.

Romneycare essentially IS Obamacare.
