“What about Somali or Hispanic students who might not eat sandwiches?”

Who cares?

How could peanut butter be “racist”? It was probably first used by South American Indians in pre-Columbian times and popularized by George Washington Carver—a black man.

One of the greatest scientists in American history and a personal favorite of mine.

Dittos. When I clicked on this thread, it had 11 replies. #12 & 13 both had the same answer, but I decided to open another window to add his picture and some of his history. FReepers lead the way with intelligence. Bet it ticks her off when she finds out he was a black scientist.

This is beyond nutty - I attended the United Nations International School from grades 1-6, and at least half the students were foreign - in a class of 15, I recall a Japanese, two from India, a Lebanese and a Slavic - we ate the same very bad school food. Nobody thought anything of it.
Of course, these foreigners were the children of diplomats, so no one was trying to make hay out of their being “victims”.
Also, from traveling at a very young age, I learned from my parents that it was the worst possible form to demand or insist upon “our” food - one should graciously adapt to the cuisine and customs of the country. And so should the visitors or immigrants to our country not behave like vulgar tourists clamoring for food from home; they should learn to graciously adapt, even to p&j sandwiches.

In some cases, that means offering programs strictly for students of color.

isn’t that racism?

George Washington Carver, the man who made the peanut what it is today, was black.

“... inventor of peanut butter happens to be George Washington Carver”.

Okay, I’m confused. Was Carver an “Uncle Tom” or simply a “racist?” /s

PB&J is "white privilege."

It's the white bread, you see. That over-rules any proud association with George Washington Carver.

White Privilege?????

I am white and I am totally damed (pardon my work usage) if I can see where my pigmentation has got me any breaks.

I really do not feel like complaining about my station in life, a disabled USN vet who was badly abused as a kid.

All in all I am doing fine but this crap is going to kill this nation.

I am glad I am not a teacher in that district, I would have used some common USN words and been bounced.

God help those kids in 10 years when they have to enter the real world and find that it will not kiss there hind quarters like lefties are teaching.

You are absolutely 100% correct she should be canned immediately.

Sadly considering it is Portland and disgustingly liberal I doubt she will be.

I’m offended she didn’t mention schmaltz or limburger.

Both were lunchbox favorites of mine. Of course, the limburger created a kerfluffle and was never repeated.

Most of the Hispanic kids here eat peanut butter and jelly. I had no idea it was a privileged meal.

We sent out kids to school with it because it was cheap.

I hate to think that the current US history classes don't teach about great Americans like George Washington Carver. If you noticed, there were plenty of FReepers who knew the fact that he was one of the great black scientists in this country. This Hispanic teacher needs to be fired, PRONTO.
