Obama condemns ‘outrageous attack’ in Libya that killed a U.S. ambassador

President Obama said Wednesday he strongly condemns the “outrageous attack” by a mob in Libya that killed four Americans, including U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens.

“Right now, the American people have the families of those we lost in our thoughts and prayers,” Mr. Obama said in a statement. “They exemplified America’s commitment to freedom, justice, and partnership with nations and people around the globe, and stand in stark contrast to those who callously took their lives.”

Mr. Stevens and three other Americans were killed Tuesday in an attack on the U.S. consulate in the eastern city of Benghazi by protesters angry over a film that ridiculed Islam’s Prophet Muhammad.

I read a post from someone who knows and worked with the Ambassaor to Egypt, and the poster said that the Ambassador would never have written and issued such a thing and, furthermore, that even if she did want to say something like that, she would never have done it without being told or permitted to do so by the WH or the Secy of State. The ambassador us a career diplomat who has been in a number of important postings.

I bet the statement came from State.

Press releases are nice, but action is better.

Hopefully Obama will have the sense of President Reagan whose ultimate response to the Beruit bombing that killed almost three hundred Marines was to pull the US out of a dangerous meddling situation. Reagan was the last American president smart enough to realize that we're not a Middle Eastern nation.

Just before the American’s were taken hostage at the U.S. Embassy in Iran, in the Carter years, a U.S. Marine was taken hostage and it took some time to secure his release.

That is when we learned that our Marine “Guards” carried NO AMMUNITION for their weapons!!!

That was the second time I wrote the White House, in protest.

The first was in 1968 when N.K. captured the Pueblo....I was in High School.

This is an act of war. Libya has attacked our soil. Any failure to respond with MILITARY action must be used by Mitt Romney in many campaign ads.

Trav, this act of war must be responded to. Period.

The President’s hands are not black this morning. His hands are red with the blood of his ambassador.

How can he be black when he has tan lines?

"He’s just upset that this happened before the elections. That whole “Arab Spring” facade has come crumbling down on him and it will take a whole lot for the media to cover this up or to spin it in his favor."

I already heard one attempt on CNN. Some foreign correspondent being interviewed stated that part of the problem was that Western nations and the US hadn't done enough to support the fledgling democracy in Libya and had turned our attention elsewhere, that things like this could happen because the central government was too weak and needed more assistance. Bleh!

I disagree. Obama wants a hostage crisis or its equivalent — such as the bombings — creates a “rally around the president” distraction.

It was Dizzy Dean who famously asked “How can it be so hot when there are so many fans”

Obama can ponder a proper response to this outrage during his next golf outing.

Oh, will we demand an apology? Oh wait, WE MUST APOLOGIZE??

How about we withhold foreign aid and expel their diplomats from the US?

Next time the regime will issue a strongly worked letter of concern. If it keeps up then, the ultimate sanction: A “major speech” from Obama about peace and good-neighborliness.

Hezbollah killed hundreds of US Marines in 1983. What did President Reagan do about that? Sometimes the best response to getting stung is is to quit sticking a hand into a hornet’s nest. But Obama, like many politicians on both sides, is a habitual Wilsonian meddler in affairs on the other side of the globe.

It’s OK, “Obama will release a statement on The Daily Show, and David Letterman tonite”, he said, while teeing off on the 4th hole.

But the first thing the obama Administration did was apologize

Can you give me the background on that? I woke up to all of this without knowing anything until hitting the road. Trying to play catch-up.
